In ‘Action Comics Annual’ (2008) #11, titled “Last Son”, Lex Luthor states an intelligence feat. Superman has recruited the Superman Revenge Squad against General Zod and the Phantom Zone Criminals. During the meeting, Lex Luthor shows he invented radiation rifles. Sinisterly, the radiation rifles fire lasers that mimic green kryptonite radiation.

How much intelligence does it take for Lex Luthor to invent the radiation rifles?

IN THE ISSUE, LEX LUTHOR INVENTED THE RADIATION RIFLE. DANGEROUSLY, THEY CAN PIERCE KRYPTONIANS’ SKIN. IN FACT, THEY FIRE AN ARTIFICIAL GREEN KRYPTONITE LASER.

IMPORTANTLY, LUTHOR GENERATED 2.539094*1043 BYTES PER SECOND OF INFORMATION. SIMILARLY, THE EQUIVALENT OF 1.0156376*1034 TIMES THE INTERNET’S STORAGE CAPACITY.

Lex Luthor invented radiation rifles that fire artificial green kryptonite lasers. They are capable of piercing a Kryptonian’s skin.

We will use Superman’s durability to estimate Lex Luthor’s intelligence.

SUPERMAN’S DURABILITY

In ‘Action Comics’ (2007) #847, Superman and Pa Kent visit the Kepler supernova in a Sunstone spaceship. Suddenly, Superman hears a distress signal. In fact, it is coming in the neighboring solar system about a Sun Eater. Flying off, Superman meets an alien spaceship with an entropy bomb to destroy the Sun Eater. Since the craft was damaged, Superman carried the entropy bomb into the Sun-Eater. Incredibly, Superman withstood red sun radiation and delivered the bomb. Moreover, the explosion was the size of 50 supernovas at light speed.

Green kryptonite is a radioactive mineral from Superman’s homeworld. It is deadly to Kryptonians and interferes with their ability to absorb and process yellow sunlight. In ‘Action Comics’ (2004) #816, Gog has come to kill Superman. During the battle, Superman is impaled by Gog’s Kryptonite-laced Power Spear.

We will use these two feats to calculate Superman’s durability.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

In the first issue, Superman was weakened by red solar radiation. Nevertheless, the Man of Steel withstood the explosion of the Sun-Eater. As a matter of fact, it was equal to 50 supernovas. In “Feat: Superman, DCeased #6”, we estimated the energy released by a supernova is roughly 1.8*1047 Joules. Then, let’s estimate Superman’s durability.

Superman’s Durability = (1.26*1045 J)(50 supernovas) = 6.3*1046 J.

To calculate Luthor’s intelligence, let’s find the conversion.
Conversion = (6.3*1046 J* 0.125 bytes )/(310.15 K * 1 J/K) = 2.539094*10^43 B/s.

INTELLIGENCE

Lex Luthor processed 2.539094*10^43 B/s of information in order to invent the radiation rifles. Lex Luthor had to generate an Adaptive Evolution Level of Intelligence since he is likely 3.612*1042 times more intelligent than the Internet.

Calculations for Lex Luthor, ‘Action Comics Annual’ #11

Energy Of A Supernova = 1.26*10^45 J.

Superman’s Durability = (1.26*10^45 J)(50 supernovas) = 6.3*10^46 J.
Ratio = (6.3*10^46 J)(24 hr * 8600 s)/(1 day * 1 hr * 7,500,000 J/day) = 1.73376*10^45.
Bytes Of Information In Luthor’s Brain = (1.73376*10^45)(2.5*10^15 bytes)/(1 human) = 4.3344*10^60 bytes.
Ratio To The Internet = (2.539094*10^43 B/s)/(2500000000 B/s) = 1.0156376*10^34.
