WHO ARE THE INHUMANS?
In the Marvel Universe, few species are as mysterious and ostracized as the Inhumans. From Attilan, this secluded society protects its genetic inheritance at all costs! Importantly, Black Bolt is their mute leader who protects the citadel from Earth’s races and space conquerors.
Let’s trace the timeline of the Inhumans’ Terrigenesis to the popular Kree-Shi’ar War.
TERRIGENESIS
During Earth’s prehistory, the Kree learned from the Celestials’ experiments of humanity’s potential. In Fantastic Four (2010) #577, we learn they experimented on a species of early humans called homo antecessor. Their objective was to breed a new race that could help them conquer in the Kree-Shi’Ar War. The new species would become the Inhumans.
Inhuman geneticist Randac first isolated the crystal he named Terrigen. His purpose was to weaponize the Inhumans in case the Kree returned. However, the Inhumans did not receive his work well. When Randac exposed himself to the Terrigen Mists, he gained mental abilities similar to the Eternals. Though he created a program of voluntary Terrigenesis, a screening was later introduced because the subjects developed inhuman mutations.
MODERN WARS
In Silent War (2007), a conflict occurs between the Inhumans and Earth’s heroes. In fact, over the U.S. government’s apparent theft of the Terrigen Mists. During the mini-seres, it is discovered that Terrigenesis uses the psychological wishes and desires of its subjects to mutate them. Professor Cartwright who idolized Captain America, mutated into a muscular Inhuman upon the exposure to the Terrigen Mists.
In War of Kings, the Inhumans have fulfilled their destiny. In fact, Black Bolt has become the ruler of the Kree Empire. Meanwhile, Emperor Vulcan has seized the Shi’Ar Empire. Together, both are on a collision course. When both kings collide, a war of catastrophic proportions follows.

SECOND TERRIGENESIS
During War of Kings (2009), Maximus the Mad built the Terrigen Bomb. Its purpose was to bring an age of peace by spreading the Terrigen Mists across the universe and cause everyone to undergo Terrigenesis. In order to defeat the Shi’Ar, Black Bolt detonated the Bomb in a battle against Vulcan. The explosion wiped 87 percent of the Shi’Ar and caused rift in space.
In Infinity (2013), Thanos and the Black Order invade Attilan looking for his Inhuman son Thane. When Thanos arrives at Attilan, the city has been evacuated and only Black Bolt is there. In the battle, Black Bolt unleashes a powerful scream that destroys Attilan and activates the Terrigen Bomb. Later, all Inhumans living among humans are activated and become NuHumans.
