Life gets pretty boring when you can beat the snot out of any villain with just one punch.

Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem—he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!

Every time a promising villain appears, Saitama beats the snot out of ’em with one punch! Can he finally find an opponent who can go toe-to-toe with him and give his life some meaning? Or is he doomed to a life of superpowered boredom?

Critically, One-Punch Man, Vol. 1 (1) is the exhilarating debut of the popular manga superhero. In fact, the comic contains seven chapters that details the adventures of Saitama as he becomes a superhero in Z-City.

Together, author One and artist Yusuke Murata collaborate on the ground-breaking volume. Really, the writing shines on the comedy and pastiche of the character. Indeed, the art in the book is the best of contemporary manga: black and white, thick lines and action-oriented.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, the success of One-Punch Man, Vol. 1 (1) stems from its initial popularity and its pastiche. Originally, the manga started as a popular webcomic before being adapted into print. Then, it was adapted into animation with One-Punch Man Season 1 and Season 2.

Really, the manga has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Last year, we successfully promoted a Goku vs One-Punch Man article.

The manga is good for your One-Punch Man collection. The ShonenJump is pocket-sized and fits neatly inside your pants. The cover and art are typical manga though the action scenes are impressive. Importantly, the superhero pastiche makes for an entertaining read.

This product has 4660 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.9 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “Story:
For One-Punch Man, this volume is definitely light on story. The art is great, there are some funny moments(although I’ve never been that much a fan of comedy in anime and manga, not sure why though), and while there isn’t a lot of development in this volume, I still think I enjoyed it.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There are 56 negative global ratings. One negative review commented on the lack of creativity in story: “It was kinda boring”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Popular manga.
  • Adapted to One-Punch Man Season 1, Season 2.

  • None.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this manga as the best ShonenJump debut of the 2010s.

Marvel Day: 5 Reasons Why Hyperion Is Marvel’s Superman and 5 Why It’s Sentry (Comics)

IN READING GUIDES, LISTS, REVIEWS

In the Marvel multiverse, the Avengers are the premiere superhero-team. In battles to defend Earth and the universe against villains, tyrants, and conquerors, two Avengers challenge each other for the title of Marvel’s Superman. Indeed, the battle for the title is between the Avenger Hyperion, and the Mighty Avenger Sentry.

Let’s list five reasons why Hyperion in his alternate versions is Marvel’s most powerful hero and five reasons why Sentry is Marvel’s Superman.

10. SENTRY WAS CREATED TO BE MARVEL’S SUPERMAN

Importantly, Sentry was created as an answer to DC’s flagship hero, Superman. Moreover, the context of the character’s creation involved a hoax concerning artist Artie Rosen’s sketches of Stan Lee’s forgotten sketches for a Marvel Silver age superhero. Certainly, the character debuted in Sentry (2000) #1, with great fanfare.

9. EARTH-616 HYPERION WAS THE FIRST MARVEL SUPERMAN

Indeed, Hyperion is the first Marvel Superman pastiche. In the classic Silver Age story, Avengers (1969) #69, Hyperion and the Squadron Sinister make their first appearance. In the comic, Grandmaster creates clones of the Squadron Supreme in order to defeat the Avengers. Certainly, this is Thor’s first true rival in the period.

8. SENTRY HAS THE POWER OF A MILLION EXPLODING SUNS

To promote the Marvel Superman moniker, Brian Bendis tells the origin story of Sentry in Dark Avengers (2010) #13. His civilian identity is Robert Reynolds, a drug addict who breaks into a Project: Sentry lab and ingests the Super Soldier Serum. Incredibly, he survives and gains the power of a million exploding suns. Later, he creates a costume and begins a superhero career.

7. HYPERION LEADS THE SQUADRON SUPREME, THE AVENGERS’ RIVALS

Comically, the Squadron Supreme is a Justice League pastiche. Among their members are: Hyperion their leader, Doctor Spectrum, Skylark, Whizzer, Power Princess, Haywire, Shape and Moonglow. In Avengers (1998) #5, the Avengers and the Squadron face-off for the title of Marvel’s premiere team. It turns out, the battle is a diversion for the villain Imus Champion’s scheme.

6. VOID SENTRY BATTLED MARVEL EARTH

Unfortunately, Sentry’s central hubris is his mental instability. With his bond to the vampiric entity named the Void, the Sentry may be the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe. In Siege (2010) #4, Norman Osborn manipulates him to invade Asgard and battle Earth’s heroes. Tragically, he begs the God of Thunder to kill him in the Thor vs Void Sentry battle.

5. EARTH-712 HYPERION IS THOR’S MATCH

In Avengers (1998) #6, the Avengers and the Squadron Supreme get into round two of their battle. Once again, Hyperion proves to be Thor’s physical match. Later, it is shown that the Squadron Supreme was actually mind-controlled.

4. SENTRY ONCE STOPPED A CELESTIAL FROM STOMPING THE EARTH

Certainly, Sentry has proven that he is Marvel’s Superman. When the situation is critical, the Marvel Universe calls upon him. In Uncanny Avengers (2014) #21, Sentry with Rogue’s help saves the world from catastrophe. In a times of crisis, the Unity Division pools together the powers of all Avengers and X-Men into Rogue. Alongside the X-Woman, he stops Exitar‘s foot from stomping the Earth to destroy it.

ADVERTISE WITH US

3. EARTH-13034 HYPERION IS AN ETERNAL WHO SURVIVED A MULTIVERSAL INCURSION

Heroically, an alternate Hyperion faithfully parodies DC’s Superman in Avengers (2012) #1: On Earth-13034, Hyperion was sent to Earth as the only survivor from the race of Eternals. Adopted by a human, he is named Marcus Milton and taught morality. As an adult, he becomes a superhero with the Squadron Supreme. However, when a multiversal incusion occurs, Hyperion survives the two universes’ destruction and ends on the Earth-616 universe.

2. AN ALL-OUT SENTRY STALEMATED WORLD WAR HULK

Perhaps, World War Hulk is Hulk’s most powerful form yet. When Hulk returns to Earth from his banishment by the Illuminati on Skaar, the Jade Giant invades the planet. To put an end to gladiatorial combats, Sentry returns to Avengers service. In World War Hulk (2005) #5, an all-out battle follows where both combatants fight until both revert to their civilian identities. Though only Bruce Banner is left standing.

1. IN HEROES REBORN, AN ALTERNATE HYPERION DEFEATS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE

Really, Hyperion is Marvel’s most powerful hero. In Heroes Reborn #2, Earth-TRN852 the Avengers do not exist. There, Hyperion and the Squadron Supreme protects America. When he sends Dr. Juggernaut to the Negative Zone, the villains escape. And he is forced to capture them all. Faced with the Hulk, Hyperion decides to kill the monster with his optic beams.

Image Day: 5 Reasons Why Mister Majestic Is The WildC.A.T.s.’ Leader And 5 Why It’s Spartan

IN READING GUIDES, LISTS, REVIEWS

In the Wildstorm universe, the WildC.A.T.s. are the Earth’s original super-team. Previously, assembled as Team One, they have gone through multiple incarnations. In their different versions, two members have remained providing the team leadership in times of crisis: Spartan and Mister Majestic.

Let’s list five reasons why Mister Majestic is the team’s natural leader and five reasons why Spartan is their original leader.

10. JOHN COLT LED THE ORIGINAL TEAM ONE

In Team One: WildC.A.T.s. (1995), the U.S. government recruits John Colt, Mister Majestic, Regiment, Mason, Think Tank, Isaiah King and Slay as Team One. Their objective is to fight Daemonites as Unidentified Life-Forms (ULFs). During their first mission, Colt leads an untrained Team One against Helspont and his cult. Disastrously, they fail to stop the launch of a missile silo on New York City. Though Colt failed in his leadership, he remained the team’s leader when WildC.A.T.s. assembled.

9. ORIGINALLY, MISTER MAJESTIC WAS A NOBLE WARRIOR

In Team One: WildC.A.T.s. (1995), the U.S. government recruits Kherubim warriors Mister Majestic and John Colt, who would be resurrected after his death as Spartan. Originally, the government recruits Mister Majestic because he is a superhero. As a noble Kherubim warrior he believes in helping people and saving lives. Though he is also a warrior who lives by a code.

8. SPARTAN BECAME THE LEADER OF THE WILDC.A.T.s.

When the Kherubim-Daemonite war erupted, Spartan assembled the WildC.A.T.s. In WildC.A.T.s.: Covert Action Teams (1992) #1, Spartan led the team in an explosive issue against the Cabal. As a synthoid created from John Colt, Spartan was the team’s logical choice to lead on covert missions. Though he continued to doubt his legitimacy over his android nature.

7. MISTER MAJESTIC HELPS FAMILY AND FRIENDS

In WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams (1994) #11, Savant recruits Mister Majestic to the WildC.A.T.s. When the team is attacked by Troika, Savant travels to the Arctic. There, at Mister Majestic’s energy barrier, she asks to meet him to help Zealot. In order to help his friend Zealot and his daughter Savant, Mister Majestic joins the team after some hesitation about his past failures.

6. SPARTAN’S PAST ROMANCES CONFLICT HIM

Because Spartan has gone through multiple upgrades, he has trouble understanding human emotion. In Gang War, the original WildC.A.T.s. return to Earth. There, they find that Mister Majestic has become the Earth-team’s leader. Also, Spartan has to deal with his identity and finding out who he really is.

5. MISTER MAJESTIC FOLLOWS A WARRIOR CODE

In Gang War, Mister Majestic emerges as the team’s leader. At the start of WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #28, Spartan refuses to accompany Ladytron and Condition Red to the local bar. In fact, we learn his warrior code prevents him from engaging in sexual activity. In World’s End, we see that circumstances can allow him to seek companionship in order to continue the Kheran race.

4. SPARTAN’S BIO-ANDROID BODY IS MORE INTELLIGENT

Certainly, as a synthoid, Spartan possesses a highly advanced bio-android body. Among his many abilities is technopathy. In WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #6, Spartan is able to use his android mind to reconstruct a fight from heat signatures left by the combatants. Later, he uses repurposed tehnology to invent HALO cars that run on infinite battery. Visit  Wildstorm Universe ’97 (1996) #1 for the source book file on his powers.

3. MISTER MAJESTIC IS MORE POWERFUL

Powerfully, Mister Majestic is the WildC.A.T.s.’ most powerful member. Indeed, he has tussled with Captain Atom, Helspont and even Electric Blue Superman. In Gang War, the poster boy incinerates Kaizen and Tao with his eyebeams with a kill count of two villIains and six zombots.

2. SPARTAN USES LETHAL VIOLENCE AS THE LAST RESORT

Perhaps, one of Spartan’s greatest quality is his logical mind and his ability to debate difficult questions. In Captain Atom: Armageddon, the WildC.A.T.s. and the Authority debate over whether to kill Captain Atom. Since he comes from a parallel universe, their computer simulations have determined that his nuclear powers can start a chain reaction that will destroy the Wildstorm universe. But Spartan cautions the Authority over taking any lethal action without additional information.

1. MISTER MAJESTIC SOLVES CRISES

Really, Mister Majestic is the WildC.A.T.s.’ natural leader. When Captain Atom arrived in the Wildstorm universe, he looked to Mister Majestic for help and understanding. In the last issue, Mister Majestic may not have saved the universe, but his timely arrival on the Carrier saved Captain Atom from the Authority.

’80s X-MEN STORYLINES RANKED FROM BEST TO WORST

STAR RATINGS:

Best: 5 to 4.5 stars.

Good: 4 to 3 stars.

Bad: 2.5 to 2 stars.

Worst: 1.5 to 0 stars.

BEST: THE BROOD SAGA (1982)

Collects ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #161-167.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Plot: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

When Uncanny X-Men (1982) #162, was released, it certified Wolverine‘s iconic status. Indeed, the “Brood Saga,” is Chris Claremont’s best X-Men work, and the best X-Men storyline. At CBR.com, Brandon Zachary confirms the saga as “Marvel’s best horror story.”

To begin, the X-Men have been captured in space by an alien giant insect-like race called the Brood for certainly gruesome reasons. Story-wise, “The Brood Saga” progresses quickly through dreams, flashbacks and moments of introspection for its true leader, Wolverine. When the animal-man is faced with a fight against evolution, he enters a berseker rage. Terribly, Wolverine must face the Brood alone or succumb to their ovoviviparous breeding.

In a sense, the storyline is a commentary on the popularity of sci-fi movies such as Alien in the decade. As a critique, it is importantly a coming-of-age story about teenage years and coming to terms with a hostile world. Certainly, this was the turning point in X-Men continuity portraying them as outcasts and warriors. Moreover, the arc features the wondrous first appearance of Captain Marvel as Binary.

Definitely, this story is essential reading and belongs in your X-Men collection.

BEST: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (1980)

Collects ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #141-142.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Dialogue: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In 1980, CBG Fan-winning writer Chris Claremont and legendary artist John Byrne collaborated on Days of Future Past. Brilliantly, the work is a masterful illustration of the X-Men, as the future of human evolution.

In an alternate future, the mutant population has been exterminated as well as the superhumans on Earth-811. On Halloween 1980, Senator Kelly, Charles Xavier and Moira McTaggert were assassinated by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in Washington D.C. After, the Sentinel Program is re-activated to exterminate mutants. Now, it’s up to Kate Pryde, Storm, Colossus and Wolverine to change the past.

In some sense, the story reveals a last effort to time travel to alter the past and change the future. For its part, Byrne’s art captures the urgency of the moment. Though the subject matter is serious and dark, Byrne’s art features colorful panels and expressive faces.

To sum, what makes Days Of Future Past work is the heroism of its characters despite the dystopian trope. In addition, it was significant for the merging of Kate Pryde into the prime Marvel timeline and her founding membership of Excalibur. In addition, it has been adapted into the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Definitely, this storyline is a classic X-Men story. Indeed, fans of Chris Claremont will love the political intrigue as well as the advanced warfare.

A FAN OF CHRIS CLAREMONT’S X-MEN? CLICK ON X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST BELOW TO BUY THE GRAPHIC BOOK ON AMAZON.

GOOD: DARK PHOENIX (1980)

Collects ‘X-Men’ #129-138.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dialogue: 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In 10 Best X-Men Stories Of The 80s, David Harth ranks Dark Phoenix Saga as the best X-Men story of all-time. Though, it is the general consensus among critics, the saga has not received the impact on general audiences that the storylines at the top have had.

Certainly, Dark Phoenix Saga is the most important story and every X-Men storyline since then owes its popularity to the love story. In some respects, the X-Men became men and women in the duel against the Shi’ar Imperial Guard. At the same time, the storyline mired X-Men comics in excessive melodrama involving Scott Summers and his marriage to Jean Grey’s clone.

A few words about the art. For his part, John Byrne’s art is certainly at its best. In fact, the iconic cover of X-Men (1980) #136, created a popular sensation. And Byrne draws the characters’ physiques in distinctive designs and colors. Perhaps, one of the most beautifully-illustrated comics of all-time.

Definitely, the storyline is certainly a must-have for your comic collection, with a blend of adventure, action, drama and sci-fi themes.

A FAN OF CHRIS CLAREMONT’S X-MEN? CLICK ON X-MEN: THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA BELOW TO BUY THE GRAPHIC BOOK ON AMAZON.

WORST: X-MEN ANNUAL (1987) #10

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

Dialogue: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 1.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In many respects, “Welcome To Mojoworld,” is the worst X-Men story of the 1980s. Importantly, the evil villain called Mojo first appears in Longshot (1985) #3. Perhaps, a transition to the 1990s’ more extreme but loose storytelling.

To sum, Mojo rules the Mojoverse, a realm where citizens are either forced to watch television or participate in violent battles. Really, a villain with base motivations. At Screenrant, the story makes the list of X-Men: The 10 Weirdest Comic Book Arcs.

On this list, this story arc is one of the worst X-Men story arcs.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Pre-order Price Guarantee. Details

Drawn from Earth across the stars, the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes and villains are set against one another by the mysterious and all-powerful Beyonder — with the winner promised the ultimate prize! But as battle lines are drawn, new alliances forged and old enemies clash, one among them is not willing to settle for anything less than godhood. Can even the combined might of the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men prevent Doctor Doom from becoming the most powerful being in the universe? Now, the greatest super hero war of all time is collected alongside an untold chapter of Thor’s time on Battleworld, Titania’s incredible origin, and “What If?” tales that offer very different endings to the Secret Wars!

COLLECTING: Secret Wars (1984) 1-12; Thor (1966) 383; She-Hulk (2004) 10; What If? (1989) 4, 114

Critically, Secret Wars Omnibus is the greatest Marvel comic of all-time. In fact, the company-wide crossover tells the story of the cosmic god Beyonder‘s orchestration of a battle royale between the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Avengers, Spider-Man vs the Wrecking Crew, Galactus, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Lizard, Doctor Octopus and Enchantress on Battleworld.

Together, writer Jim Shooter and artist Michael Zeck collaborate on the 12-issue comic. Really, the writing shines on the struggle between good and evil. Indeed, the art in the book is the brightest of the Copper Age of comics: panoramic, muscular and colorful.

Indeed, share this comic to fans of Comic-Con, Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Definitely, it is worth its price and will leave you wanting for more Beyonder! And Doctor Doom!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, Secret Wars Omnibus is the first company crossover in Marvel history. Indeed, it’s the greatest comic of all-time in terms of popularity, financial success and impact on continuity. In fact, Marvel Studios plans to adapt the comic in Phase 6 of its movies.

Really, the comic is perfect for all ages and its straightforward tale of good heroes against evil villains to entertain a cosmic god, will appeal to adults and children. Also, witness Doctor Doom’s great moment as he attempts to steal the Beyonder’s power!

The comic is good for your Marvel collection. You will definitely love Michael Zeck’s thin lines, the quick story-telling, and the colorful panels. This oversized omnibus brings together beautiful illustrations that bring the story to life.

This product has 8 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.5 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “With this edition, all that has changed. The oversize format lets the illustrations breathe. The intense, full color scheme brings everything to life.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There is 1 negative global rating. The negative review commented on the poor plot: “Corny dialogue (ok, let’s put the blame on the eighties), hundreds of characters, a really silly plot, stupid villains, dumb heroes… I strained throughout the pages of this monstruosity, and realized that, after all, it was no surprise that marvel kept doing these horrible crossover events during the nineties, if this is what passed for reference… go read something else or buy it, if you have trouble sleeping.”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • First Marvel company crossover.
  • Successful franchise.
  • Straightforward plot.

NEGATIVE:

  • Not enough customer review ratings.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this Copper Age comic as the greatest Marvel event of all-time.
