NUMBER CRUNCHING
According to NASA, the Apollo asteroid is one mile wide and weighs 2*1012 kg. Moreover, asteroids can reach speeds of 25000 meters per second.
We need to calculate the asteroid’s kinetic energy in order to estimate Thor’s super-strength. KE = (1/2)((2*1012 kg)(250002 m/s) = 6.25e+20 J.
Then, we calculate the work done to throw the asteroid a light-year away. W = Fd = mgd = (2*1012 kg)(9.81 m/s2)(9.4607*1015 m) = 1.8561893e+29 J.
Total Work done = (1.8561893e+29 J) + (6.25e+20 J) = 1.8561893e+29 J.
