HERCULES PANHELLENIOS
EARTH-616

In Godzilla (1977) #3, titled “A Tale of Two Saviors”, Hercules performs a super-strength feat. In Los Angeles, Godzilla attacks the Golden Gate Bridge and Hercules with the Champions of Los Angeles must stop him. During the fight, Hercules heaves Godzilla and topples the monster.

How much super-strength does it take for Hercules to topple the 100-foot Godzilla?

IN THE ISSUE, HERCULES TOPPLED THE 100-FOOT GODZILLA ABOUT 10 METERS INTO THE AIR.

IMPORTANTLY, THE HEAVE GENERATED A POTENTIAL ENERGY OF 138293543.432 JOULES IN FREE FALL. SIMILARLY, THE EQUIVALENT OF 3.29270341505 PERCENT OF THE POWER OUTPUT OF A MEGATON WARHEAD IN ONE SECOND. ENOUGH TO DESTROY A ROOM.

SUPER-STRENGTH FEAT:

Hercules toppled Godzilla. We will use the square-cube law in order to estimate Godzilla’s mass.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

In order to estimate Godzilla’s mass, we need to use the square-cube law. Since Godzilla is a mutated dinosaur, we also use the density of a T-Rex obtained from remains. From Tyrannosaurus | T-Rex, we obtain the estimated height, length and width of a T-Rex from the Cretaceous Period. Also, a T-Rex can weigh up to 15,500 pounds or 7 tons.

First, we calculate the volume of a T-Rex.
VolumeTRex = height * width * length = 5.2 m * 1.8 m * 12.3 m = 115.128 m3.

Then, we calculate the T-Rex’s density. Since they are not humans, a BMI would not really work.
Density = mass/volume = (7000 kg)/(115.128 m3) = 60.8018900702 kg/m3.

To calculate Godzilla’s mass, we calculate his volume from the square-cube law.
V2 = (115.128 m3)(30.48 m/5.2 m)3 = 23185.4653679 m3.

Finally, we calculate Godzilla’s mass and his potential energy 10 meters in the air.
MassGodzilla = density * volume = (60.8018900702 kg/m3)(23185.4653679 m3) = 1409720.11653 kg.

UGodzilla = (1409720.11653 kg * 9.81 m/s2 * 10 m) = 138293543.432 J.

SUPER STRENGTH

Hercules generated 138293543.432 J of work with his Godzilla Topple. In order to topple Godzilla, Hercules had to generate a City Block-Level of Super Strength.
