In our article, we list 4 important Batman v. Superman stills inspired from DC comics. Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice released on March 25th 2016.

Below, you can see our Top 4 stills from the movie.

4. KRYPTONITE GRENADE/ARROW

In his interview with BlackTree TV in 2016, Zack Snyder revealed that Batman v. Superman is inspired from the legendary The Dark Knight Returns (1986) graphic novel by revolutionary author and artist Frank Miller. In the final issue of the comic,Superman takes on Batman.

Unlike the comic, Batman fires a Kryptonite gas grenade at Superman with a Kryptonite Grenade Launcher whereas Green Arrow fires a Kryptonite arrow in the source material.

3. WONDER WOMAN VS DOOMSDAY

Though The Dark Knight Returns takes place on Earth-31, Zack Snyder also heavily influences from the New 52. In fact, even Superman’s powers may reveal a solar dependency weakness portrayed in the DC reboot. Similarly, the way the nuke affected Superman’s powers during the Superman vs Doomsday battle showed the Man of Steel shriveling up in a comatose state like in the New 52.

For her part, Wonder Woman makes a cameo appearance in the movie. Reminiscent to her New 52 battle against the Kryptonian creature in the valuable Superman Doomed (2014) #1, Wonder Woman wounds Doomsday. Though the New 52 version was a planetary plague, the amputation causes city block-wide bioelectrical emission threatening even the Amazon.

2. FACE-OFF

Like the source material, Batman v. Superman is largely political intrigue. In the graphic novel, Batman has come out of retirement to bring justice to Gotham. However, the government sends Superman to bring him in due to his brand of justice.

In the movie, Batman (and Lex Luthor) seem to launch a legal argument against Superman and the Kryptonian invasion in Man of Steel (2013). For Batman, the only penalty for Superman’s presence on Earth is death.

1. SUPERMAN PULLING A SHIP/PLANETS

Cinematically, Zack Snyder is a visual storyteller who excels at slow-motion cinema. In fact, his comic book movies are inspired with panels from the source material.

Importantly, the movie features Superman performing heroics and feats worldwide. In a Silver Age nod, Superman pulls a capsized ship in the Arctic. Similarly, Superboy pulled planets on a chain in the rare Superboy (1967) #140.

In the Post-Crisis continuity, Superman has been the Justice League of America’s public figure as well as its tactical commander. In fact, Superman’s leadership commands respect from his peers. In contrast, Wonder Woman has played a similar role, particularly due to her expertise in war and her role as a diplomatic embassador for Themyscira.

Let’s list five reasons why Superman is the Justice League’s true inspiration and five reasons why Wonder Woman’s leadership uncovers deception and sees the vision of the DC Universe.

10. IN THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN PROTECTS THE LEAGUE AGAINST DOOMSDAY

The Death Of Superman (2018) is the 11th installment in the DC Animated Movie Universe. In the movie, the monster named Doomsday is on a rampage across the United States and it is up to the Justice League to stop it. When the situation seems hopeless, Wonder Woman arises to fight the monster. Though she eventually loses, her leadership causes Superman to go all-out.

9. IN JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK: APOKOLIPS WAR, SUPERMAN LEADS THE LEAGUE INTO WAR AGAINST APOKOLIPS

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020), is the final installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. At the beginning of the movie, Superman formulates a plan to invade Apokolips in order to prevent war on Earth. But Superman and the Justice League Dark are captured. After the Justice League’s forces are destroyed, John Constantine enacts a plan to save them. Finally, Superman is freed from Darkseid’s control on Apokolips. In the finale, an amped Superman takes on Darkseid toe-to-toe.

8. IN SUPERMAN: SACRIFICE, WONDER WOMAN FREES SUPERMAN FROM MAXWELL LORD’S MIND-CONTROL

In Superman: Sacrifice, Superman has attacked Batman at the Watchtower. After, the Justice League discovers that Maxwell Lord mind-controls Superman and has taken control of Brother Eye. Violently, Superman attacks the League and escapes. Now, with her powers of Truth, Wonder Woman tracks him down and locates Checkmate. After a vicious battle, Wonder Woman kills Maxwell to free Superman from his delusions. Really, a controversial decision that created a crisis of leadership in the Justice League. Importantly, it contributed to Infinite Crisis.

7. IN INFINITE CRISIS, SUPERMAN STOPS SUPERBOY-PRIME WITHOUT KILLING

In Infinite Crisis, the 52 universes in the DC multiverse are threatened of destruction by Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor Jr. Indeed, the villains seek to destroy the 52 earths to restore Earth-Prime, the perfect Earth. In a crisis of leadership, Earth-One and Earth-Two Supermen rise to save the multiverse. On the Green Lantern planet Mogo, a depowered Earth-One Superman defeats a depowered Superboy-Prime after flying through a red sun, delivering a speech that inspired fans.

6. IN ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, WONDER WOMAN LEADS THE LEAGUE IN BATTLE

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Wonder Woman shows why she is the League’s tactical leader. With Superman inactive, Wonder Woman leads the League in battle against Steppenwolf and the parademons. When Batman decides to sacrifice himself to drive Steppenwolf’s army away, Wonder Woman rallies the League to help him. Again, she saves Batman from death at the hands of Apokoliptian armies. In the end, she decapitates Steppenwolf with her magical sword.

5. IN BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN SACRIFICES HIMSELF TO KILL DOOMSDAY

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, is the second movie in Snyder’s trilogy. In the movie, Superman and Batman clash after Lex Luthor stages a political intrigue. In the finale, both heroes must fight with Wonder Woman against Doomsday, Luthor’s mutated Zod. In order to save the Earth and Lois Lane, Superman sacrifices himself, killing Doomsday with a kryptonite spear.

4. IN DARK NIGHTS: DEATH METAL, WONDER WOMAN CREATES THE FIRST ANTI-CRISIS

In Dark Nights: Death Metal, the DC heroes must stop an invasion from The Batman Who Laughs and the Dark multiverse. In order to stop the dangers to the multiverse once and for all, Wonder Woman leads the heroes into the first Anti-Crisis. After one final battle, she defeats The Batman Who Laughs in the death sun. At the end, the DC multiverse is restored with no frontiers and all the crises in continuity remembered.

3. IN FINAL CRISIS, SUPERMAN RESTORES THE DC MULTIVERSE

In Final Crisis, Darkseid finally conquered the Anti-Life Equation. Now, he set out to create a Fifth World on New Earth. During the crisis, even Nil is threatened by destruction by the Equation. In the end, Darkseid destroys the entirety of the DC multiverse, past, present and future. Only a group of heroes and civilians remain in space on the Watchtower. Proving to be the Justice League’s true leader, Superman uses his remaining stores of solar energy to activate the Miracle Machine and restore the DC multiverse. Though it was not the last crisis, since the multiverse was rebooted again after Flashpoint.

2. WONDER WOMAN REFUSES TO ASCEND AMONG THE QUINTESSENCE TO REMAIN HUMAN

With Infinite Frontier (2021) #0, the Quintessence shows Wonder Woman a vision of the new DC multiverse. Then, they congratulate the heroine and propose her to ascend into their ranks as a goddess. However, Wonder Woman declines to preserve her humanity and fight the impending darkness.

1. SUPERMAN INSPIRES PEOPLE BY REVEALING HIS SECRET IDENTITY

Perhaps, the greatest reason why Superman is the Justice League‘s best leader is his example. In Superman (2020) #18, Superman finally comes out and reveals his secret identity to the public. Though his peers questioned his decision and Batman feared mind control. At the same time, the decision also worsened his hero status. Definitely, a decision of momentous proportions that changed the status quo and shows how much the Man of Steel can inspire people around the world.

Super Power Explained: How Do Doomsday’s Powers Work?

SUPER POWER

Flashback FM

IN SUPER POWER EXPLAINED

In Super Power Explained: How Do Superman’s Powers Work?, we attempted to explain Superman’s powers within Byrne’s framework. Now, we attempt to answer a popular question about his deadliest nemesis, Doomsday.

PHYSIOLOGICALLY, DOOMSDAY IS A SOLAR BATTERY

Superman: The Man of Steel (1992) #18. DC Comics.

DEATH OF SUPERMAN

Perhaps, the most difficult question in all of comicdom: How do Doomsday’s powers work? Though there have been multiple explanations for Superman’s fantastic super powers under the yellow sun, there have been few for his nemesis’.

When Doomsday first appeared in Superman: The Man of Steel (1992) #18, very little was known of it. To begin, it escaped the bowels of the Earth and dug his way through to Earth’s surface. Then, it began its rampage across America; and Superman and the JLA had to stop it.

After the JLA was defeated, Superman was the only one left to stand against the monster. Soon, it became clear the creature was a foe of overwhelming power, and only an all-out Superman could stand a chance.

Heroically, the battle led to the Death of Superman in Metropolis, who stopped the monster.

DOOMSDAY’S ORIGIN STORY

A few years later, Doomsday creator Dan Jurgens gave fans an origin story about the creature. During the mini-series called Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey, we learn of the Legend of Krypton. Originally, the creature is a creation of geneticist, Bertron, on early Krypton.

Through forced evolution, the baby that evolved to become Doomsday was cloned and harvested after exposure to its harsh conditions. Finally, it was born: The Ultimate!

Particularly, with its powers of reactive evolution and immortality, Doomsday resurrects from death and evolves abilities beyond what killed it.

In the comic, the monster appeared every bit as ferocious and even powerful enough to put Darkseid near death. In the end, an amped Superman and Waverider triumphed over the monster by sending him to the end of the universe.

Since Doomsday is from Krypton, we theorize that he is also a solar battery similar to Superman. Though his rocky exterior precludes the existence of any organs, he may possess the ability of solar absorption through his rocky skin. Let’s explain its powers below.

HOW DOOMSDAY’S POWERS WORK

WHY DOOMSDAY IS AN ORGANIC LIFE-FORM

1. GRAPHITE IS A NATURAL MATERIAL WITH THE HIGHEST MELTING POINT ON EARTH

In Superman/Batman (2004) #10, Superman vaporizes an army of Doomsday animates with his heat vision. Though we rated the feat Stellar-Level in Energy Projection, let’s explain Doomsday’s durability.

In fact, H/P Doomsday withstood an explosion equal to a million nuclear blasts in his fight against Superman on Calaton. Indeed, Doomsday’s rocky exterior and his solid mass precludes the need for organs.

Moreover, we theorize that Doomsday’s rocky exterior is due to metamorphism and may be composed of graphite. In fact, we can explain Doomsday’s incredible durability, adaptation and controlled bone growth as results of this material.

When the creature was repeatedly exposed to the harsh environment on Krypton and its deadly creatures, it is possible that his body underwent metamorphism or even a process similar to the formation of igneous rocks in magma.

Since the primary feature of organic life is that it is carbon-based, it is possible that at least 99 percent of Doomsday’s body is composed of only carbon.

Certainly, the exact composition of his body is unknown but his rocky exterior suggests his skin is composed of the hardest materials on Earth, probably a hard and rocky material such as graphite. Importantly, graphite can have a melting point of 4000 degrees Celsius.

Also, we know graphite has out of space origins, from meteor deposits. Hence, it is possible for the material to have existed on prehistoric Krypton.

Moreover, Doomsday’s reactive evolution and controlled bone growth may be a metamorphism as a result of injury.

As the Batman v. Superman video suggests, injury seems to trigger this process of bone formation similar to igneous rock formation due to increased pressure and temperature inside the Earth.

2. THE PROCESS OF METAMORPHISM REQUIRES 75000 PSI IN THE EARTH'S MANTLE

Doomsday. DC Comics.

Generally speaking, Doomsday’s boundless super-strength is a result of extreme natural conditions. Since Doomsday was created on prehistoric Krypton, his physiology and appearance reflect the conditions of the era.

Moreover, we know the conditions inside the Earth’s mantle reflect more or less the harsh conditions on prehistoric Earth. Similarly, we theorize that Doomsday’s boundless super-strength and reactive evolution are suited to a more prehistoric environment.

In How does Graphite form: from pressure & temperature, we learn that the process of metamorphism requires 75000 pounds per square inch. In terms of force, that’s 6178474747.5 Newtons over Doomsday’s estimated 12 meter squared surface area.

Given that the pressure at the core of the Earth is 360 GigaPascals, Doomsday can reach Planetary-Level of Super Strength. However, his battles with Superman and Darkseid suggest the creature may have an unlimited amount of strength.

Moreover, since Superman has normal strength on Krypton, the gravity on Krypton has been estimated to be at least a 100G. In fact, it means under Sol, Doomsday is at least a 100 times stronger. Definitely, a Stellar to Solar System-Level of Super Strength.

In fact, his immortality and reactive evolution may be due to a molecular or nuclear bonding to natural forces and processes like volcanoes, geothermal vents or even earthquakes. In a sense, he is a force of nature.

WHY DOOMSDAY IS A SOLAR BATTERY

THE PHOTONUCLEIC EFFECT GRANTS ORGANIC MATTER NEW PROPERTIES

In Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey (1994) #3, Superman manages to permanently stop Doomsday. DC Comics

In Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey (1994) #3, Superman manages to permanently stop Doomsday. Using Waverider’s Temporal Transporter, Superman transports Doomsday to the end of the universe killing it. Fortunately, Waverider recovers from Doomsday’s attack and saves Superman from death, transporting him back to the present.

In some respects, Doomsday may function as a solar battery or a reactor. Previously, we theorized that Superman functioned similarly. At the same time, the basis for Doomsday’s powers may be what is termed the Photonucleic Effect.

Under a class-G Yellow Star, Doomsday’s carbon atoms may have the ability to absorb sunlight granting them additional properties. As a result, the Kryptonian creature may display incredible abilities. In fact, early Krypton may have been under a yellow star.

Visit our article on Doomsday vs Hulk.

Certainly, Doomsday’s super-strength, super speed and immortality may be effects of the photonucleic effect. Though he has no cells, his solid mass does comprise of carbon atoms that have the potential to develop the abilities of a Kryptonian under a yellow sun.

ANSWER:

Doomsday’s rocky exterior and solid mass are the result of metamorphism on prehistoric Krypton.
Though it is debatable whether The Ultimate’s body is composed of genes, the force of nature derives its boundless strength and immortality from universal forces and the photonucleic effect.
