In ‘Superman Beyond’ (2008) #1, Superman, Captain Marvel and other supermen in the DC multiverse are recruited by Monitrix Zillo Valla. They embark on a journey through the DC multiverse in order to stop the ultimate threat: Mandrakk, the Dark Monitor. Stranded on Limbo, Superman and Captain Marvel are guided by Merryman to the Library of Limbo to find repair manual for the damaged Ultima Thule. There, they lift the Book of Limbo, which has an infinite number of pages.

The book tells of the origin story of the Monitors. The Monitors are described as a race of hyper-gods with Dax Novu described as the first son of Monitor-Mind The Overvoid.

After the trauma of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the original solitary Monitor withdrew from reality to lick its wounds, only to discover that one of its wounds had left a scab in the shape of a giant superman made of divine metals. Believing that it was no longer possible for it to watch over its own, immeasurably large body, the Monitor began to subdivide itself. And the first of these subdivided Monitors was Dax Novu.

[…]

But what Novu found was a horrifying truth – the Monitors were parasites feeding on the Multiverse, and they were destroying it in the process.

When Superman embarks on his journey through the DC multiverse, Zillo Valla promises him the Bleed, the substance of life capable of healing Lois Lane who hangs between life and death at the hospital. When Superman and Ultraman are fused by Captain Adam into Thought Robot, Thought Robot ascends to the Nil to face Mandrakk. It is Cosmic Midnight, the door creeks, Mandrakk the Dark Monitor appears with the Bleed, or Ultramenstruum in his left hand. What is the Bleed?

In ‘Superman Beyond’ (2008) #1, Monitrix Zillo Valla promises Superman the Bleed to save the life of Lois Lane if he succeeds in stopping the ultimate threat. Valla reveals to Superman that the substance known as the Ultramenstruum is actually called the Bleed in the germ worlds. Apparently, the 52 universes of the DC multiverse all grew within the Bleed like crystals grow in solution.

THE BLEED IS 4-D SPACE

In ‘Superman Beyond’ (2008) #1, the Ultima Thule is being attacked by a Bleedstorm caused by the Destroyer “Echo Of Midnight.”1 In order to process what is happening, Superman upgrades to 4-D vision. From there, he is able to see the space between dimensions as 4-D space.

MANDRAKK FEEDS ON THE BLEED

From hyper-god, Dax Novu turned into a vampire god and fed on the DC multiverse; he became Mandrakk. It is this universal substance that Superman conquers after defeating Mandrakk with the Cosmic Armor. When Superman retrieves the Ultramenstruum from Mandrakk, the Dark Monitor can no longer feed on the DC multiverse and apparently dies, lost in Monitor-Mind The Overvoid.

A furious battle between Superman and Mandrakk occurred, during which Mandrakk killed Zillo without recognizing her, and blamed Superman for his mistake. Eventually, Superman was able to knock Mandrakk into the Overvoid, where eventually even the thought of Dax Novu faded, ending his threat. Unfortunately, Rox Ogama, who was similarly exiled for his treason, simply assumed the powers and mantle of Mandrakk himself.

In “Dark Nights: Metal,” we learn that Cosmic Armor Superman cast down Mandrakk in the Dark multiverse. Following Barbatos’ failed invasion of the DC multiverse, the Unexpected began to investigate a signal they believed to be an Nth metal isotope. They ended up at Nil.

Mandrakk revealed that he had never in fact perished during his conflict with Superman. Instead, his fall through the Overvoid ended in the Dark Multiverse. Determined to return to the proper multiverse and nourish himself on the Bleed, he began giving off a signal which individuals such as Quench foolishly believed was an invitation. In fact, it was bait, and he fed upon those who came to find him in order to crawl back out of the abyss, eventually arriving at Nil.

Monitor Dax Novu, DC Database

After Neon the Unknown and Quench were killed by Mandrakk, they resurrected before being annihilated by the World Forge. Gifted with the Fires of Creation, Neon the Unknown used his super powers to alter Mandrakk’s physiology: Mandrakk would now feed on the Dark multiverse instead of the Bleed. Finally, he was cast down into the Dark multiverse.

Super Power: True Form Darkseid Can Destroy The DC Multiverse

SUPER POWER

Comics Explained

IN SUPERVILLAINS

IN THE MULTIVERSITY MAP, THERE IS ONLY ONE DARKSEID

The Multiversity map. AP Photo/DC Comics.

From a thread on Quora, there is an explanation about the Multiversity map:

Darkseid is a Multiversal being.

In DC Comics the Multiverse is made up of spheres.

The center of the Multiverse is the Rock of Eternity (nexus of all magic in the Multiverse) and the House of Heroes.

Then we got the Bleed. The Bleed is split between two layers. Upper and lower.

In the Upper layer you got the 52 Main Universes.

In the Lower layer you got a near infinite number of universes. Each universe exploring all the timelines that could were, could be, and still can be. So a really unimaginable number of universes.

The Barrier that splits all those Universes from the Sphere of the Gods (where Darkseid lives) is the Speed Force. The Sphere of the Gods envelopes all those universes I mentioned before.

And for those gods a universe can be as big as a sphere you can hold in your hand, or a bubble you can pop.

Above that Sphere theres the Monitor Sphere, home of the Prime Monitor that is the one that decides which universe is risen to the upper layer of the Bleed, when a main universe is destroyed.

AVATAR CREATION

In 'New Gods' (1997) #15, an avatar of Darkseid appears in the Source Wall.
In ‘New Gods’ (1997) #15, an avatar of Darkseid appears in the Source Wall. AP Photo/DC Comics.

In ‘New Gods’ (1997) #15, Darkseid and Highfather are trapped on the Source Wall. In order to communicate with Vykin the Black, Darkseid sends an avatar of himself. Each avatar possesses a fraction of Darkseid’s nigh-infinite power.

SPHERE OF THE GODS

Because Darkseid lives in the Sphere of the Gods, beyond the DC multiverse, there is only one true form Darkseid. Though since Final Crisis, there have been multiple origins of Darkseid when the multiverse was reborn, the other versions of Darkseid that have entered the DC multiverse, are merely avatars. In “What is Darkseid’s True Form?”, Fiction Horizon goes over the concept of avatars.

In The Multiversity Guidebook, the Highfather, also a New God and Darkseid’s brother, states that each reality – past, present and future – has its own version (avatar) of Darkseid. This means that Darkseid is actually an omnipresent, non-corporeal being fragmented so that he can be present in every possible reality. As far as we know, only actual multiversal deities (The Presence in DC Comics and The One Above All in Marvel) and Dr. Manhattan have these abilities, which would put Darkseid – his true form, that is – very high on the list of the most powerful beings in the history of comic books.

DOOMSDAY AND SUPERMAN HAVE DEFEATED AVATARS OF DARKSEID

‘SUPERMAN/DOOMSDAY: HUNTER/PREY’ (1994) #1

In ‘Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey’ (1994) #1, Cyborg Superman guides Doomsday to Apokolips who arrives by cargo ship. Programmed by Cyborg Superman, Doomsday destroys Apokolips’ army. Eventually, Darkseid must take direct action and intervene. During the battle, Doomsday delivers a painful beatdown on Apokolips’ monarch. Though there is debate that the Darkseid version Doomsday defeated was an avatar, writer Dan Jurgens seemed to confirm otherwise.

‘SUPERMAN/BATMAN’ (2004) #3

In ‘Superman/Batman’ (2004) #13, Superman is angry at the death of Kara Zor-El and battles Darkseid. AP Photo/DC Comics.

In the “Supergirl from Krypton” storyline, it is hinted that the Darkseid that Superman imprisoned on the Source Wall at the end of the battle was an avatar.

TRUE FORM DARKSEID CAN DESTROY THE DC MULTIVERSE

In “Final Crisis,” Darkseid reveals his true form. AP Photo/DC Comics.

“Final Crisis” reveals true form Darkseid. At the end of “Death of the New Gods”, the battle between New Genesis and Apokolips invades Heaven. Evil wins the battle, Darkseid armed with the Anti-Life Equation and the New Gods fall to Earth. Known as Boss Dark Side of the Dark Side Club, he orchestrates the ALE going live on the Internet creating a singularity that threatens to send New Earth to Hell, dragged the whole DC multiverse past, present and future with it.

What the storyline shows is that true form Darkseid is a concept of pure Evil, the God of Evil, that threatens to destroy the DC multiverse. So what is true form Darkseid? True form Darkseid is the Anti-Life Equation erasing free will from the DC multiverse.

TRUE FORM DARKSEID IMPOSES THE ALE ON NEW EARTH

At Bludhaven, true form Darkseid is finally triumphant! With a half of the human population under his control, he has imposed the ALE on Earth.

As the Doomsday Singularity drags Earth to Hell the Fifth World is finally born.

TRUE FORM DARKSEID DESTROYS THE ENTIRE DC MULTIVERSE

In ‘Final Crisis’ (2009) #7, true form Darkseid with ALE is dragging the whole DC multiverse to Hell, except for the JLA Watchtower. AP Photo/DC Comics.

True form Darkseid is a Multiversal Level threat. In ‘Final Crisis’ (2009) #7, true form Darkseid destroyed the entire DC multiverse past, present and future. As the Doomsday Singularity drags the Earths to Hell, the heroes work on the JLA Watchtower on the construction of the 31st century Miracle Machine, the only weapon capable to reverse the effects of the Anti-Life Equation and restore the DC multiverse.

Super Power: Darkseid’s Omega Effect Is A New God Power That Grants Its User Power Over Life And Death

SUPER POWER

Comics Explained

IN GODS, MONSTERS AND INFINITE POWER

IN POST-CRISIS CONTINUITY, THE OMEGA EFFECT IS DARKSEID’S ULTIMATE NEW GOD SUPER POWER

In ‘Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey’ (1994) #1, Doomsday faces the awesome might of Darkseid! Photo/DC Comics

Darkseid’s Omega Effect is the New God’s ultimate super power. Being a New God, Darkseid derives this super power from the Source. The ability is probably an extension of the chaotic power of the Source.

What does this mean?

The Omega Effect is Darkseid’s power to create or destroy from the chaos aspect of the Source. In post-crisis continuity, the Source is the boundary to the DC multiverse and its creator.

Read on!

The Godwave was a mystical wave of energy, created by The Source, that swept across the cosmos, responsible for creating various pantheons of gods. As it spread it eventually reached the edge of the universe and rebounded, making a second pass that created the potential for Superhumans. Thus, it was responsible for creating the likes of the Speed Force, the Quantum Field and the energy channeled by the Guardians of the Universe. In time, the resonance created by the Godwave began to expand and contract whereupon it returned to The Source. This expansion and contraction began to affect the powers of various beings throughout the universe. As a result, the cosmic energy force began to tear apart the structures it had created whereupon it would wipe the universe clean bringing about the emergence of a new and terrible Fifth World to replace it.

THE OMEGA EFFECT GRANTS DARKSEID POWER OVER LIFE AND DEATH

Darkseid uses the Omega Effect in order to create and to destroy. The Omega Effect grants Darkseid power over life and death. The Omega Effect is fired as concussive beams from Darkseid’s eyes. The super power is able to disintegrate beings and objects on target. In addition, the Omega Effect can curve though it does not err from its target.

The Omega Effect grants Darkseid the power to erase beings from reality and re-create them at will. It is thus a reality-warping power. The New God derives this super power from the chaotic side of the Source.

DARKSEID’S OMEGA EFFECT CAN HURT SUPERMAN-LEVEL FOES

Darkseid’s Omega Effect is particularly destructive. It is able to destroy planets and even hurt Superman-level foes such as Kryptonians and Daxamites.

In fact, the Omega Effect is able to hurt even other New Gods such as Orion and Highfather. The Omega Effect grants Darkseid the power to hurt or to negate powerful magic such as Wonder Woman‘s Aegis bracelets.
