WHY ONE-PUNCH MAN IS ON THE BEST SELLERS LIST

THE CREATIVE TEAM

Namely, the creative team on the story arc is legendary talent. In a few words, the legendary director Shin’ichirō Ushijima and the incredible artist Shingo Natsume
collaborated on Season 1. For his part, the 2018 Sitges nominee director has created popular animes such as Wonder Egg Priority and Tokyo Twenty Fourth Ward.

THE “AVERAGE” HERO

When One created the One-Punch Man webcomic, it was told as the pastiche of an “average” hero in 2009. With the webcomic growing in popularity, Viz Media collaborated with the author and published the manga remake in 2012.

With a team of One and Yusuke Murata, One-Punch Man began publication in Shueisha’s Young Jump Web Comics. Later, the English manga was licensed to Weekly Shonen Jump.

VISUAL STORYTELLING IMPRESSED THE FANS

Importantly, One-Punch Man has become a best-selling manga in Japan. Though, the anime adaptation has become a cultural phenomenon that has influenced the industry worldwide.

With its visual storytelling, the anime is a panel-by-panel adaptation of the manga. Episode 2 begins with a panel from Chapter 5. Saitama is watering the cactus in his apartment and is bored at his own overwhelming strength.

In the anime, the scene adapts the panel faithfully. And the inner monologue is reposted with the actor’s voice. The technique is repeated throughout the animation that faithfully brings to life panels from the manga. And fans were impressed by the animation.

Certainly, the One-Punch Man one-shot was on the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump N°51 in 2013. But the anime was announced on Mar. 10 2015 in Weekly Young Jump N°15. Definitely, the English serialization covers popularized the series.

Indeed, buy this anime to witness Saitama battle a mosquito in his apartment! And Saitama meets his friend, the cyborg Genos, to fight the Insect Queen. In the end, the anime answered why it was touted as the adventures of an “average” hero and entertained fans.

SALES, SALES, SALES

Really, Weekly Shonen Jump (2015) N°47 significantly boosted sales for the anime. With its One-Punch Man full cover for the English version, it published a bonus chapter on Oct. 19 to promote Season 1 Episode 2. Let’s compare the Anime News Network Japan’s Animation DVD Ranking for three episodes from 2015-2016.

Number 3. Episode 5: Ranked 2nd on the April 18-24 2016 on Ranking.

UNIT SALES: 1,801.

Number 2. Episode 6: Ranked 5th on the March 23-29 2016 on Ranking.

UNIT SALES: 2,071.

Number 1. Episode 2: Ranked 5th on the January 25-31 2016 on Ranking.

UNIT SALES: 2,522.

RECOMMENDATION:

Definitely, watch One-Punch Man Season 1 on Prime Video.
