WHAT IS QUANTUMANIA?

This year, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania released with anticipation. As the 31st installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie received poor reviews though general audiences liked it. In part, its box office woes are due to the expensive promotion and the lack of a strong story and cast performances.

Though Quantumania has performed poor, it is an important step in the Phase Five of Marvel movies and introduces its main villain to film audiences. Let’s list the timeline of events since Avengers: Endgame (2019).

THE AVENGERS DISBAND AFTER ENDGAME

During Endgame (2019), the Avengers must restore the Marvel Universe. When they travel in time, they restore Thanos who invades present Earth. The Iron Man Snap occurs when Iron Man sacrifices himself to restore the Universe with the Infinity Gauntlet.

At the end, with Tony Stark dead, Steve Rogers in retirement and Thor with no kingdom, the Avengers disband.

THE MULTIVERSE SAGA BEGINS

In Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Spider-Man must protect his secret identity and his loved ones. In the beginning, Mysterio reveals his secret to the world. In order to restore his identity and save the multiverse, he enlists the help of Doctor Strange.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), the Multiverse War begins.

A NEW VILLAIN

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), the Kingdom of Wakanda under threat after the passing of King T’Challa. A new mutant villain named Namor rises.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Ant-Man and Co. explore the Quantum Realm. There, they meet Kang who threatens the multiverse.

Super Power: How Black Panther and Captain America Match As Martial Artists

IN MARTIAL ARTS

*To celebrate Black Panther: Wakanda Forever we publish this article on Marvel’s top two martial artists.

BLACK PANTHER AND CAPTAIN AMERICA ARE MARVEL’S TOP TWO MARTIAL ARTISTS

Today, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releases with great celebration and excitement for the general audiences and for the African-American public.

With the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the torch has been passed to Letitia Wright who takes up the mantle of Black Panther in the titular role of Shuri. Though the heroine has yet to prove her feats similar to the comic, we will compare only T’Challa to Captain America.

In fact, since the Silver Age, the Black Panther-Captain America rivalry has taken on new heights. Indeed, many of their encounters involve Captain America infiltrating Wakanda on political missions or covert operations.

In most battles, the King of Wakanda has won though Captain America has held his own. With “Enter the Phoenix”, Phoenix-powered Captain America and Black Panther are the finalists in the Phoenix’s gladiatorial combats to become the entity’s next host.

Let’s look at how Black Panther’s martial arts and Captain America’s super soldier serum match against each other across various media.

TV: BLACK PANTHER DEFEATED CAPTAIN AMERICA IN THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTER

BETNetworks

In 2010, BET aired one season of Black Panther. Importantly, the six-episode series was a motion comic that introduced audienes to Wakanda and the world of Black Panther.

Perhaps, the first episode kicked into high gear with the first encounter between Black Panther and Captain America. True to the source material, Captain America is hunting down Nazi spies in Wakanda.

With fisticuffs and muscle-bound heroes, it appears Black Panther outclasses Captain America in strength, speed and fighting skill. In three powerful kicks, T’Challa knocks out the Star Spangled Banner.

In the end, Black Panther wins the battle though the mission is a failure.

FILM: BLACK PANTHER IS THE SRONGEST MARTIAL ARTIST

Movie Box

Really, Black Panther (2018) may be the most celebrated Marvel movie with the greatest cultural impact. Indeed, “Wakanda Forever” has become the popular motto of entertainers and fans alike celebrating African-American culture.

Perhaps, one of its least celebrated moments is the rhino scene during the final battle of the movie. When T’Challa returns to challenge Killmonger, he dons the suit and faces the Wakandan army. Powerfully, he tamed a white rhino stampeding.

Importantly, a white rhinoceros can weigh up to 2400 kg and stampede at 13.8582 meters per second. With a kinetic energy of 230459.648688 Joules, Black Panther performed a Room-Level feat that is well above Captain America’s strength-level.

FILM: CAPTAIN AMERICA IS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE’S BEST HAND-TO-HAND FIGHTER

TopMovieClips

Gloriously, Captain America showcases the Marvel Universe’s best battles. In Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War (2016), the Avengers are divided over the Sokovia Accords. On the pro-registration are Iron Man and his forces. Against registration are Captain America and his Avengers.

In the final battle, Captain America shows why his combination of strength, sill and fighting spirit is unmatched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Importantly, Iron Man is at least a 10-tonner since he is able to move the turbines of the Helicarrier.

Gloriously, the Star-Spangled Banner withstands Iron Man’s barrage of punches and array of technology, in order to final overwhelm him with his superior fighting skills. As F.R.I.D.A.Y. states, Catain America is the best hand-to-hand fighter in the Marvel Universe who later triumhs over Tony.

Though, unlike Black Panther killing Killmonger, Captain America does not land Tony the killing blow with his shield.

COMIC: IN ENTER THE PHOENIX, BLACK PANTHER CLAIMS HE CAN KILL THE PHOENIX

VISIT Marvel Day: In “Enter The Phoenix”, The Thunder God Attempts To End Gladiatorial Combat But Becomes The Son Of A Monster With A Devastating Origin Story for the Phoenix’s gladiatorial combats.

Importantly, Black Panther claims during the series that he has the power to kill the Phoenix. As a martial artist, Black Panther is also a great mystic who can commune with supernatural forces.

COMIC: CAPTAIN AMERICA HAS STALEMATED BLACK PANTHER

In Captain America #100 (1968), Black Panter tests Captain America in a fight in Wakanda. Marvel Comics

For the most part, Black Panther and Captain America are portrayed as equals. Importantly, T’Challa has the advantage in strength, speed and is the deadlier fighter. Both fighters are protected by Vibranium as the Captain has a Vibranium Shield and the Black Panther Habit is powered by Vibranium.

Gotham: To Prepare For ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, We List Every Comic That The Movie Is Based On

GOTHAM

Marvel Entertainment

IN FRANCHISES, COMIC VALUES AND COLLECTIONS

In our article, we list 4 important comics that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is loosely based on. In the movie, Namor makes his appearance for the first time. Also, Riri Williams makes her first appearance as Ironheart.

Below, you can read our Top 4 comic books.

4. IRONHEART (2019-2020)

The promo clip so far, has confirmed the first appearance of Ironheart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2019, Ironheart made her first appearance in Marvel Comics. Though similar to Iron Man, the MIT genius named Riri Williams forges an Iron Man suit to take down the villain Clash and becomes a superheroine. Collect Ironheart vol. 1 (2019-2020) to get a backstory on the character.

3. DOOMWAR (2010)

'Doomwar' (2010) #2. Marvel Comics.

To begin, speculation continues concerning Doctor Doom joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to ScreenRant, Namor is the villain in the movie, and not Doctor Doom. At the same time, Doomwar (2010) is among the most important Black Panther and Doctor Doom stories. In fact, the movie takes place at a time when T’Challa is no longer in power or perhaps, has disappeared and Shuri has to replace him. Similar to the comic.

2. BLACK PANTHER: A NATION UNDER OUR FEET (2016)

Incredibly, Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet by Ta-Nehisi Coates (2016) is the most important Black Panther graphic novel of the 2010s. Gloriously, the writer has crafted one of the most emotional Black Panther stories. Though there is no direct mention of the people and the Midnight Angels, the comic is still a great backstory on Wakanda and its monarchy.

1. BLACK PANTHER: POWER (2010)

Certainly, Black Panther: Power (2010) written by critically acclaimed producer-writer Reginald Hudlin, is the true inspiration for the movie. From the plot and the trailers, Shuri has replaced T’Challa as the new Black Panther. Similar to the comic, Wakanda is invaded by Namor during the AvX saga. It is unclear if a similar event occurs in the movie, though the movie may introduce the first modern mutant in preparation for The Mutants and the X-Men.
