WHAT IS OUT OF THE SHADOWS?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows (2016) is the sequel to the first 2014 film in the new series. The plot centers on Shredder’s freedom from prison and the renewed attempt by Krang to plunge New York City in a new darkness.

Though the film had an improved score of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews were mixed and its box office performed less than the first one. Particularly, the plot seemed to lack focus and the characters were not fully developped.

As a result, Paramount Pictures greenlit a reboot. Let’s list the reasons why despite its problems, the movie deserved a sequel.

OUT OF THE SHADOWS INTRODUCED FAN-FAVORITES

When Shredder is broken out of prison, he recruits two criminals who were transported with him. However, he uses the mutagen Krang gave him to transform them into fan-favorites Bebop and Rocksteady! The duo end up being his henchmen.

When Shredded is on transit, he is being transported by correction officer Casey Jones. But the Foot Clan intercepts the convoy and it is up to Casey, April O’Neil and the turtle to stop their plan. In addition, he saves April and is her love interest.

THE FILM FOLLOWS THE TV SERIES

Accidentally, Shredder teleports to Kang’s dimension and the monster gives him the mutagen. Importantly, his mission is to activate a portal in New York that will allow Krang to invade and feed. Atop the Technodrome, the Turtles finally meet their match in one hulking android piloted by Krang!

Just as in the TV series, the Turtles must decide to come out of the shadows and show their existence to the public and the authorities. Moreover, they must choose between their mutation and saving humanity.

IMPROVEMENTS

The visuals in the movie more accurately reflect the world of the Turtles. The visuals are a hue of blue-green which fits the Turtles but also reflect the TV series and previous movies.

While the first movie emphasized martial arts and combat a lot. The second movie emphasizes more the sense of adventure and open air. The Turtles are ninjas, they are also teenagers who like to explore and find adventure in different situations.

IN CRISES

ON EARTH, IT IS A VILTRUMITE’S MISSION TO MATE WITH A HUMAN

In our Invincible article, we related Mark Grayson’s origin story. A half-human, half-Viltriumite hybrid, Mark is a teen superhero. When he gains super powers, he embarks on superhero missions with his father, Omni-Man. However, Mark learns that in fact, his father is not a superhero. Instead, he is a conqueror for the World Conqueror Committee.

In a titanic clash, Nolan Grayson leaves Invincible near death and departs from Earth. At the same time, Mark may have inherited his father’s biological mission: to mate with a human. In fact, Mark seems to prefer his girlfriend Cecil to a Viltrumite like Anissa, who is more war-like. Some time later, it is revealed that Viltrumites must breed with humans.

ANISSA’S ABUSE REVEALS IT MAY BE MARK’S MISSION TO CONQUER EARTH

In Invincible (2014) #110, we learn about one of the most controversial act in comics. After the Viltrumite War, Invincible destroyed the planet Viltrum. Now, the Viltrumites were refugees on Earth. Since, the female Viltrumite Anissa took an interest in Mark Grayson. In fact, she seemed to like him. However, after repeated mandates from former Emperor Thragg, she realized she needed to fulfill her biological mission to procreate with a human.

In fact, Anissa had no interest in procreating with a human. With Mark being half-human, half-Viltrumite she opted for him. Meeting him in the United States, she fought and being stronger, forced herself upon him. Despite Mark’s resistance, she warned him she would repeat the act in the future. Though Mark does not realize, Anissa’s rape may indicate it is his biological mission to conquer Earth.

ANNOUNCEMENT: RAPE IS WRONG AND CRIMINAL

Though comics are some of the most progressive media and forms of art, we question some of their moral positions. In fact, it is our position that rape no matter the circumstance is always wrong and criminal. Moreover, we object to comics portraying such violence towards the opposite sexes so cavalierly.

Also, we encourage victims of rape and domestic abuse to break their silence. Every person deserves to be loved, accepted and welcome. Finally, this right extends to underrepresented minorities and races, even the LGBTQ+. We believe it is everyone’s right to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Fan Theory: At DC Comics and Image Comics, The Superman Analogues Are Guardians Of The Bleed

FAN THEORY

Supermen of the Multiverse. DC Comics.

IN COSMIC HIERARCHY

DURING CRISES, THE DC MULTIVERSE ACTIVATES ITS DEFENSE SYSTEM

In Justice League Incarnate #4, the true purpose of Superman is revealed. During crisis events, the DC multiverse is threatened. In order to protect its survival, the DC multiverse activates its immune system: superheroes. Importantly, Frank Martin at ScreenRant argues Superman represents the archetype of the ultimate hero.

In fact, Final Crisis reveals Superman and his analogues are the guardians of the Bleed. In Superman, The Greatest Story, I argue that the Bleed is a living 4D space that connects the DC multiverse’s shared history. During the final battle, the Supermen of the Multiverse arrive on New Earth in order to battle Mandrakk, the Dark Monitor. Let’s look at Superman and analogues in DC and Image that protect the Bleed and its analogues.

In 'Superman Beyond' (2008) #1, Superman upgrades to 4-D vision to see 4-D space.

To begin, Darkseid threatened the DC multiverse with the Anti-Life Equation. With Nil, Monitrix Zillo Valla chose Superman and the champions of the DC multiverse. Importantly, their mission was to stop Mandrakk. In order to succeed, Zillo Valla promised the Man of Steel the Ultramenstruum.

Dangerously, Mandrakk bottled this Bleed droplet. In fact, the Bleed was the only substance capable to save a critical Lois Lane. Heroically, Superman merged with Ultraman and became Thought Robot. Successfully, the Doomsday Weapon defeated Mandrakk in Nil and retrieved the Bleed.

MISTER MAJESTIC (DC COMICS)

During Captain Atom: Armageddon, a new peril faced the Wildstorm Universe. As matter of fact, Captain Atom had accidentally quantum jumped in the Wildstorm Universe. Now, his power threatened the existence of Wildstorm. And his presence triggered conflict with the heroes, namely in Captain Atom vs Mister Majestic. According to Majestic, Captain Atom would explode like a time bomb and Majestic needed to stop him

To protect the Bleed, the Authority kidnapped a near-critical Captain Atom aboard the Carrier. Moreover, they intended to kill him to prevent the Captain from blowing up the universe. When Mister Majestic attempted to stop the Authority, he was frozen in time by the Doctor. In the end, Void solved the problem by allowing the destruction of Wildstorm. In addition, she teleported Captain Atom back into his universe.

SUPREME (IMAGE COMICS)

At Image Comics, Alan Moore revamped Supreme as a Superman analogue in 1999. In The Story Of The Year, Supreme returns to Earth after exile in space. Strangely, he notices reality flickering between the 1940s and the 1990s. There, he meets Supreme duplicates such as Original Supreme, Sister Supreme and Superion.

Soon, they travel to the Supremacy. Here, he learns it is a limbo realm where every possible version of Supreme lives. Similarly to the Bleed, it acts to create revisions in Supreme continuity. Moreover, it constantly erases or replaces friends and foes. Similarly, the Supreme duplicates act as guardians of the Supremacy. Indeed, they help Supreme and the Image Universe in moments of need.

Probably, the Mask’s magic needed death in order to continue.

Then, the Shaman removes the Mask and places it on the altar. Criminally, a thief called Razziky steals and replaces the Mask with a fake duplicate. When his associates find him to request the relic, he gives them another fake one. Quickly, the thief wears the Mask and kills the hired men. Suddenly, Katherine wakes up and wonders if her dream was the Mask’s origin story.

Moreover, the Guardians possess the Cosmic Cube which Thanos plans to use to free himself. During a battle, Star-Lord impressively kills Thanos with the Cosmic Cube. However, Thanos comes back to life and punches him throuh the abdomen. Eons ago, the Many Angled Ones used Mar-Vell’s cancer to rid the Earth-10011 of Death. In a necropsy ritual, the embodiment of Death was annihilated.

Then, it became the Cancerverse. As a result, in the Cancerverse, every life form is a cancer. As you known, unless irradiated, cancer cells multiply continuously, don’t undergo apoptosis and are effectively immortal. Moreover, Death does not exist there. For this reason, Mistress Death could not claim Thanos. In fact, even the Revengers killed by Death, came back to life. WITH WEAPON X CANADA STARTED A SUPER-SOLDIER ARMS RACE

For his part, Canadian paratrooper Howlett was enrolled into the Weapon X program. In 1943, in Alberta, Canada, Dr. Abraham Cornelius successfully created the first mutant. In fact, Howlett was dubbed Mutant Zero. On awakening, James’ animality rose and he attempted to escape. Reaching the top of the snowy mountain, he was shot in the head. Amazingly, he survived as his wounds healed. Later, they brought him back to base. In fact, it was in response to the development of the Super-Soldier Serum. After, Canada created its own variants.

Indeed, Dr. Cornelius discovered the mutant gene. Incredibly, the Weapon X program managed to activate the mutant gene. Hence, Mutant Zero would develop super powers. Intently, they planned on spreading the gene creating the mutant race. In the 2000s, Weapon X became a counter-terrorism subdivision of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tragically, mutants were captured and sent on missions. Effectively, mutants were considered Super-Soldiers by governments. In fact, they participated to fight wars across the world. Particularly, the Super-Soldier vs mutant war erupted in Ultimate War (2003).

In the “Ultimatum” event, Magneto creates cataclysmic events on Earth-1610. Previously, Hawkeye‘s assassination attempt on Magneto was thwarted at the cost of Quicksilver’s life. Indeed, in retaliation for the deaths of his children, Wanda and Pietro. Using Thor’s Mjolnir, Magneto shifted the planet’s magnetic poles. As a result of the cataclysms, millions died including several Ultimate heroes.

In order to regain a sense of normalcy, Reed Richards proposed to Invisible Woman. However, Sue rejected his proposal. In ‘Ultimate Comics Ultimates’ (2013) #30, Reed’s descent towards Maker is evident. A week after the Ultimatum, Kang the Conqueror visited Reed from the future. Shockingly, Kang revealed herself as Sue Storm. Incredibly, she commissioned Reed to gather the Infinity Gauntlet. In short, she wanted to prevent the end of the Ultimate Universe. In the end, the path would lead to Mister Fantastic becoming the Maker.

AFTER “KING IN BLACK,” MAKER IS A MULTIVERSAL ANOMALY

In “Venom” (2021) #200, Eddie Brock is adjusting to being the new King in Black. As the God of the Symbiotes, Eddie can control all the symbiotes. Really, all that ever existed and he can see through them. In fact, he can pilot them to multiples places at the same time. Moreover, his omniscience allows him to see Knull’s first war against the God of Light. Curiously, Eddie speculates he may be able to travel through the timestream and alter history.

Nevertheless, the only being that has ecaped his omniscience is Maker. In ‘Venom’ (2020) #26, Maker had successfully created an artificial symbiote. To this end, he had used an Earth-616 symbiote. Sinisterly, he had planned to travel to the Ultimate Universe. However, his plan was foiled by a man in an Iron Man-esque armor. Finally, Maker was transported to the Ultimate Universe through a dimensional rift. In a sense, he became a multiversal anomaly.

Ultimately, Maker seeks to join the Council of Reeds. Ironically, all members of the Council come from stable universes. Decisively, they have tasked Maker to restore the Ultimate Universe. Ultimately, it is the condition before he can join.

As Eddie reveals, Maker’s plan likely involves erasing the Marvel Universe. On top, he would rebuild the Ultimate Universe. Initially, his work for the Council is under the code name “Project Oversight.” Historically, Maker was interested in symbiotes for dimensional travel. Logically, Eddie and Dylan would be his targets. Perhaps, he would raise his own army of synthetic symbiotes.
