PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Life gets pretty boring when you can beat the snot out of any villain with just one punch.

Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem—he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!

Every time a promising villain appears, Saitama beats the snot out of ’em with one punch! Can he finally find an opponent who can go toe-to-toe with him and give his life some meaning? Or is he doomed to a life of superpowered boredom?

Critically, One-Punch Man, Vol. 1 (1) is the exhilarating debut of the popular manga superhero. In fact, the comic contains seven chapters that details the adventures of Saitama as he becomes a superhero in Z-City.

Together, author One and artist Yusuke Murata collaborate on the ground-breaking volume. Really, the writing shines on the comedy and pastiche of the character. Indeed, the art in the book is the best of contemporary manga: black and white, thick lines and action-oriented.

Indeed, share this comic to fans of Comic-Con, One-Punch Man and on the occasions of birthdays. Definitely, it is worth its price and will leave you wanting for more One-Punch Man!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, the success of One-Punch Man, Vol. 1 (1) stems from its initial popularity and its pastiche. Originally, the manga started as a popular webcomic before being adapted into print. Then, it was adapted into animation with One-Punch Man Season 1 and Season 2.

Really, the manga has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Last year, we successfully promoted a Goku vs One-Punch Man article.

The manga is good for your One-Punch Man collection. The ShonenJump is pocket-sized and fits neatly inside your pants. The cover and art are typical manga though the action scenes are impressive. Importantly, the superhero pastiche makes for an entertaining read.

This product has 4660 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.9 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “Story:
For One-Punch Man, this volume is definitely light on story. The art is great, there are some funny moments(although I’ve never been that much a fan of comedy in anime and manga, not sure why though), and while there isn’t a lot of development in this volume, I still think I enjoyed it.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There are 56 negative global ratings. One negative review commented on the lack of creativity in story: “It was kinda boring”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Popular manga.
  • Adapted to One-Punch Man Season 1, Season 2.

NEGATIVE:

  • None.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this manga as the best ShonenJump debut of the 2010s.

’80s X-MEN STORYLINES RANKED FROM BEST TO WORST

STAR RATINGS:

Best: 5 to 4.5 stars.

Good: 4 to 3 stars.

Bad: 2.5 to 2 stars.

Worst: 1.5 to 0 stars.

BEST: THE BROOD SAGA (1982)

Collects ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #161-167.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Plot: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

When Uncanny X-Men (1982) #162, was released, it certified Wolverine‘s iconic status. Indeed, the “Brood Saga,” is Chris Claremont’s best X-Men work, and the best X-Men storyline. At CBR.com, Brandon Zachary confirms the saga as “Marvel’s best horror story.”

To begin, the X-Men have been captured in space by an alien giant insect-like race called the Brood for certainly gruesome reasons. Story-wise, “The Brood Saga” progresses quickly through dreams, flashbacks and moments of introspection for its true leader, Wolverine. When the animal-man is faced with a fight against evolution, he enters a berseker rage. Terribly, Wolverine must face the Brood alone or succumb to their ovoviviparous breeding.

In a sense, the storyline is a commentary on the popularity of sci-fi movies such as Alien in the decade. As a critique, it is importantly a coming-of-age story about teenage years and coming to terms with a hostile world. Certainly, this was the turning point in X-Men continuity portraying them as outcasts and warriors. Moreover, the arc features the wondrous first appearance of Captain Marvel as Binary.

Definitely, this story is essential reading and belongs in your X-Men collection.

BEST: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (1980)

Collects ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #141-142.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Dialogue: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In 1980, CBG Fan-winning writer Chris Claremont and legendary artist John Byrne collaborated on Days of Future Past. Brilliantly, the work is a masterful illustration of the X-Men, as the future of human evolution.

In an alternate future, the mutant population has been exterminated as well as the superhumans on Earth-811. On Halloween 1980, Senator Kelly, Charles Xavier and Moira McTaggert were assassinated by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in Washington D.C. After, the Sentinel Program is re-activated to exterminate mutants. Now, it’s up to Kate Pryde, Storm, Colossus and Wolverine to change the past.

In some sense, the story reveals a last effort to time travel to alter the past and change the future. For its part, Byrne’s art captures the urgency of the moment. Though the subject matter is serious and dark, Byrne’s art features colorful panels and expressive faces.

To sum, what makes Days Of Future Past work is the heroism of its characters despite the dystopian trope. In addition, it was significant for the merging of Kate Pryde into the prime Marvel timeline and her founding membership of Excalibur. In addition, it has been adapted into the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Definitely, this storyline is a classic X-Men story. Indeed, fans of Chris Claremont will love the political intrigue as well as the advanced warfare.

A FAN OF CHRIS CLAREMONT’S X-MEN? CLICK ON X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST BELOW TO BUY THE GRAPHIC BOOK ON AMAZON.

GOOD: DARK PHOENIX (1980)

Collects ‘X-Men’ #129-138.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dialogue: 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In 10 Best X-Men Stories Of The 80s, David Harth ranks Dark Phoenix Saga as the best X-Men story of all-time. Though, it is the general consensus among critics, the saga has not received the impact on general audiences that the storylines at the top have had.

Certainly, Dark Phoenix Saga is the most important story and every X-Men storyline since then owes its popularity to the love story. In some respects, the X-Men became men and women in the duel against the Shi’ar Imperial Guard. At the same time, the storyline mired X-Men comics in excessive melodrama involving Scott Summers and his marriage to Jean Grey’s clone.

A few words about the art. For his part, John Byrne’s art is certainly at its best. In fact, the iconic cover of X-Men (1980) #136, created a popular sensation. And Byrne draws the characters’ physiques in distinctive designs and colors. Perhaps, one of the most beautifully-illustrated comics of all-time.

Definitely, the storyline is certainly a must-have for your comic collection, with a blend of adventure, action, drama and sci-fi themes.

A FAN OF CHRIS CLAREMONT’S X-MEN? CLICK ON X-MEN: THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA BELOW TO BUY THE GRAPHIC BOOK ON AMAZON.

WORST: X-MEN ANNUAL (1987) #10

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

Dialogue: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Plot: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Characterization: 1.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Art: 1.0 out of 5.0 stars.

In many respects, “Welcome To Mojoworld,” is the worst X-Men story of the 1980s. Importantly, the evil villain called Mojo first appears in Longshot (1985) #3. Perhaps, a transition to the 1990s’ more extreme but loose storytelling.

To sum, Mojo rules the Mojoverse, a realm where citizens are either forced to watch television or participate in violent battles. Really, a villain with base motivations. At Screenrant, the story makes the list of X-Men: The 10 Weirdest Comic Book Arcs.

On this list, this story arc is one of the worst X-Men story arcs.

IN DEATHS AND RESURRECTIONS

WHAT IS COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS?

Countdown To Final Crisis (2007) continues the Countdown (2007) 52-issue weekly series. Countdown goes from issue #51 to #27 then turns to Countdown to Final Crisis till DC Universe #0. Here is the Reading Order leading to Final Crisis.

In the series, Darkseid is manipulating the 52 parallel universes in order to give rise to the Fifth World. Meanwhile, Death of The New Gods takes place during Countdown. Importantly, it is revealed that the evil New God is manipulating even the Source on a giant chessboard.

In Countdown to Final Crisis #2 (2008), Orion kills Darkseid. Let’s explain Darkseid’s death.

ON EARTH-17, THE SOURCE PROPHESIES DARKSEID’S DEATH

Return Of The New Gods (1977) was launched by Gerry Conway and Dennis O’Neil with a 1st Issue Special. However, it was cancelled after a year. The series kept Kirby’s continuity and continued its story. Notably, it resurrected dead characters such as Desaad and Kalibak. In the 1st Issue Special, Highfather learns of the cryptic prophecy of the Source saying “When son slays father chaos reigns.”1 When Orion engages Darkseid in battle, Highfather intervenes and dissuades him.

In addition, the Ruler of Apokolips continued his quest for the Anti-Life Equation. Using six captive humans, he created an Anti-Life being called the Antagonist. In addition, Darkseid became convinced that the Source held the secret of the Anti-Life Equation. For this reason, he sought to penetrate the Source Wall.

IN DEATH OF THE NEW GODS, THE SOURCE CREATES A FIFTH WORLD

Death of The New Gods is part of the Countdown To Final Crisis storyline. After the Old Gods corrupted it and split it in two, the Source sought to create a Fifth World. For this reason, it recruited Infinity-Man to kill the New Gods for the Source to be whole. In this epic, Superman and Mister Miracle must race in order to find the New Gods’ mystery killer. In the end, the Source destroys New Genesis and Apokolips and creates the Fifth World by fusing both worlds.

Readers have pointed out inconsistencies in Death of The New Gods and Countdown and critics doubt Death of The New Gods‘ canonicity. For example, Orion and Darkseid are thought to die at the end of the storyline. However, they appear again in Countdown To Final Crisis #2. Also, it appears the Source creates a Fifth World. However, in Countdown it is revealed that Darkseid is manipulating events on a cosmic chesboard. Nevertheless, Flashpoint reboots the DC multiverse and the Fourth World continues outside the DC multiverse.

ORION KILLS DARKSEID

In Metropolis, Orion arrives by Boom Tube to fulfill the prophecy. This day, the Dog of War puts an end to Darkseid‘s rampage on New Earth and the multiverse. In a duel, an all-out Orion finally rips out his father’s heart, ending him. In the end, the prophecy of the Source is fulfilled and chaos reigns with Final Crisis.

Final Crisis (2009) is what happens to the DC multiverse when the New Gods die and are resurrected. After the Source kills them, the New Gods continue their war in Heaven. There, Darkseid finally learns the Anti-Life Equation. Then, the New Gods are resurrected on Earth in human bodies. Indeed, the beginning of the end.

To begin, Thanos by Donny Cates (Thanos (2016-2018)) was the most important story in Marvel Legacy. In an alternate timeline, Thanos finally conquers the Marvel universe. Only the Fallen One (Silver Surfer), is left to oppose his reign of destruction.

Really, the comic showcases why Thanos is the A-list villain in Marvel. Indeed, his ferocity, cunning and resourcefulness prove the end of the universe. The comic is good for your Thanos collection. You will definitely love the epic scope, the full page spreads and the brutal battles.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “I loved this and I don’t usually buy comics based on superheroes or supervillains but I really do love Thanos. And it certainly was beyond my expectations because it was all over the place. The actual Thanos Wins story was good…but not great for me and I certainly wasn’t interested in Cosmic Ghost Rider but this guy is awesome! I love the art I love how it tears through Marvel history and time and changes everything and doesn’t really care. There’s even baby Thanos. The books basically a thought experiment. Final say: I had fun reading it :)”

Anime/Manga: Goku vs One-Punch Man

ANIME/MANGA

INTRO

Database Comics.

IN GODS, MONSTERS AND INFINITE POWER

THE TWO STRONGEST WARRIORS IN ANIME

Database Comics.

For our very first Anime/Manga article, we compare two of the best warriors in manga and anime. For dedicated fans, who have been following the media, manga and anime produce some of the most gravity-defying and exhilarating fights in all fandom.

In today’s article, we compare two fighters that are the cream of the crop in terms of fighting spirit, determination, strength and yes… fighting!

Though both universes have never met, what would happen in a battle between the strongest Saiyan, Goku and the strongest hero in anime, One-Punch Man?

Really, both are A-list and B-class heroes in their respective universes. Namely, the legendary Goku recently appeared in the mega-hit Dragon Ball Super animated film Dragon Ball Super: Broly. For his part, the debonnaire Saitama continues his journey towards becoming an A-Class hero.

Though both heroes have shown devastating attacks, let’s compare their strength in terms of fighting monsters, not just villains. Hence, we compare Super Saiyan 3 (SSJ3) Goku with the Dragon Fist vs One-Punch Man with the Serious Fist.

KI AND POWER LEVELS

Generally, the concept of power levels understood scientifically or physically is not useful in anime and manga. In fact, this is due to the concept of ki.

In anime and manga, characters’ strengths are not dependent on how much physical strength they can exert, or how much they can lift. Instead, they depend on their ability to use their natural life force for devastating attacks, super speed or abilities such as flying.

In many respects, these are an application of martial arts and Chinese philosophies to the arts of fighting and war. For these reasons, we compare these warriors in terms of formidability.

FORMIDABILITY

Generally, formidability is the ability to compete, match and defeat a foe despite overwhelming odds. Usually, formidability indicates a warrior’s ability to defeat a stronger, more powerful and more resourceful enemy.

For this reason, it is almost interchangeable with the Fighting Skills Level. For example, this explains why Batman is able to defeat Killer Croc or Bane who are in fact stronger or more powerful.

Using tactics, training, technology, resources and intel, Batman is usually able to take on more powerful opponents.

Before we rank our two heroes, let’s list some rules.

  1. First, the hero should be able to consistently defeat opponents above their strength class or power level.
  2. In terms of power level or fighting skills, they should have few or no weaknesses.
  3. Consistently, they should face quality opponents that are at least able to destroy a city.
  4. Finally, they should have fewer limitations in power, strength, ability or intelligence.

First, we will compare them in Strength Class, Weaknesses, Quality Opponents and Limitations. Then, let’s rank Super Saiyan 3 Goku and One-Punch Man in Formidability. To note, all scores are rated out of a 100.

1. STRENGTH CLASS

Generally, SSJ3 Goku is among the strongest transformations of the hero. On many occasions, the transformation is used as a last resort. This is because in Dragon Ball Z and after, Goku has not fully mastered the form.

Though it is able to generate a lot of destructive power even creating shockwaves over the entire Earth when transforming during the Majin Buu saga. At the same time, it comes at a great expenditure of life force, such that Goku can only maintain it for less than an hour.

In Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, Goku uses the Dragon Fist for the first time to destroy Hirudegarn. Properly speaking, the attack is Planetary Level since Hirudegarn was strong enough to devastate the planet.

On the other hand, One-Punch Man rates as strong as SSJ3 Goku. In most of his fights, Saitama is nonchalant and appears bored. In fact, his strength level is so great that in Season 1 he defeats his opponents without being harmed.

However, in the case of Boros, One-Punch Man met an interesting match. Initially, the villain was able to regenerate from Saitama’s Simple Punches. But when Boros threatened to destroy the planet with his Collapsing Star Roaring Canon, Saitama became serious.

With his Serious Punch, One-Punch Man leapt through the attack and annihilated Boros. Properly speaking, One-Punch Man’s Strength Class is Planetary.

ADVANTAGE: TIE

2. WEAKNESSES

For the most part, Goku’s main weakness has been his compassion. In his battles, he has often gotten the upper-hand on his opponents, only to lose because he would not finish them. Nonetheless, Goku remains the strongest of the Saiyans and a fighting genius.

Indeed, he has mastered multiple techniques over the years such as Kaio Ken, Kamehameha Wave, Instant Transmission and yes, the Dragon Fist.

It appears the technique is possible only under Super Saiyan 3. Notably, it shows one of Goku’s most vicious attacks as he is rarely shown to fight to the death. Perhaps, Goku would perform better in his fights with such a mindset.

Generally, One-Punch Man is THE perfect warrior. Though he does have a weakness which is his lack of interest in fights due to his overwhelming strength. In a fight with the Saiyan, it could cause some problems though Saitama seems to be a true hero.

As a hero who has mastered martial arts, One-Punch Man has developed multiple techniques such as his Simple Punch, his Serious Punch or even the Roaring Cannon.

Overall, both fighters seem about even in terms of Weaknesses though they overcome their Hubris with the Dragon Fist and the Serious Punch.

ADVANTAGE: TIE

3. QUALITY OPPONENTS

Perhaps, the most confusing area to consider. Goku’s most dangerous foes tend to be creations of mad scientists such as Cell or Majin Buu. At the same time, aliens such as Freeza and even Saiyans have fought him to the death.

Though their physical strength is often around Building-City, their Power Level or ki tends to be around Planetary. In terms of Power Level, Goku’s strongest opponents are Planetary-Level.

In comparison, One-Punch Man seems to have adopted a more Western or perhaps empirical approach. During his battle with Mirugori, One-Punch Man survives Giant Man’s blows and leaps out of a 100 meter crater to deliver a devastating blow.

Initially, with 9.48*109 J of energy, this would put his Durability at Building Level. Later, in his fight against Boros, the villain kicks him into the moon.

At 384.4 million meters of distance between Earth and the moon, Saitama withstood at least 3.64*1016 J of energy. Effectively, his durability is from Multi-Continent to Moon Level. Overall, SSJ3 Goku has better Durability with similar Quality Opponents at the Champion Level.

ADVANTAGE: GOKU

4. LIMITATIONS

Really, both heroes are astoundingly powerful and strong. Though Saitama seems to have no upper end to his Strength Class, Goku seems to have no upper limit to his transformations.

At the end of the day, it is the Superman vs Goku question: Unlimited Super Strength vs Unlimited Ki. Perhaps, their only Limitation is Willpower.

ADVANTAGE: TIE

VERDICT:

Though their scores are even, SSJ3 Goku separates himself from One-Punch Man with better Quality Opponents. In the end, unlimited ki may defeat unlimited strength.

Super Saiyan 3 Goku wins.
