WHY SUPERBOY-PRIME IS ON THE BEST SELLERS LIST

'Infinite Crisis' (2006) #7.
Infinite Crisis (2006) #7. DC Comics

THE CREATIVE TEAM

Namely, the creative team on the story arc is legendary talent. In a few words, writer Geoff Johns and the late artist George Perez collaborate on the story arc. For his part, the legendary artist has produced classic works such as Crisis On Infinite Earths, the Post-Crisis reboot of Wonder Woman and the New Teen Titans.

When both superstars collaborate on this work, you expect a classic. In fact, the creative team is not pulling any punches!

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS SEQUEL

Really, Infinite Crisis is the sequel to Crisis on Infinite Earths. If COIE is about a mad god’s desire for multiversal annihilation, IC asks the question: Who is the true Superman to lead the heroes of New Earth?

With a tightly built plot, IC was THE DC crossover event of the 2000s! In the story, Alexander Luthor Jr. and Superboy-Prime are on a quest to find Earth-Prime, the perfect Earth. But this would mean the destruction of the 52 universes in the DC multiverse.

Now, the heroes must stop the villains’ raving plans before it is too late. Witness the fateful battle of the DC Universe against Superboy-Prime!

VISIT THE COLLECTOR’S SHIP!

THE BATTLES THAT SOLD THE STORY ARC

Importantly, the battle of Superboy vs Superboy-Prime in Infinite Crisis (2006) #6, raised the stakes in a personal way. However, the finale in Infinite Crisis (2006) #7 was the event’s explosive finish. Let’s explain.

On New Earth, Superboy-Prime returns from the Speed Force with a solar-collecting armor to help Alexander Luthor Jr. Now, the battle is on to destroy Luthor’s tower: The JLA, the Titans, the JSA band together in the Arctic.

Originally, former DC co-publisher revealed his intention to kill Dick Grayson in IC. Eventually, Superboy ended up making the ultimate sacrifice to destroy Luthor’s tower.

In ‘Infinite Crisis’ (2006) #6, Superboy and Superboy-Prime fight a battle to the death.
In Infinite Crisis (2006) #6, Superboy and Superboy-Prime fight a battle to the death. DC Comics.

Nonetheless, the battle was only beginning. In Infinite Crisis (2006) #7, Superboy-Prime decides to fly into Oa, the center of the DC multiverse in order to create a Big Bang to recreate the DC universe with him as its only superhero.

And we recommend this comic for its non-stop action. Indeed, buy this comic to witness Superboy-Prime go through a 300-mile wall of pure willpower created by the Green Lantern Corps.

Certainly, there is the unforgettable battle of the Supermen: Superboy-Prime vs New Earth Superman and Earth-Two Superman. In the end, the comic answered the true meaning of Superman and why his ideal has inspired the DC Universe and fans for generations.

SALES, SALES, SALES

Really, Infinite Crisis #6-7 significantly boosted sales for the Hardcover. Though, it showed how a B-list character like Superboy-Prime can dangerously threaten the DC multiverse in a crisis.

In fact, Infinite Crisis #6 ranked 8th and Infinite Crisis #7 ranked 10th in 2006 Graphic Novels unit sales for single issues according to Comichron. Moreover, the Infinite Crisis HC was the number 21 best seller of 2006.

Let’s rank Superboy’s formidability with the solar-collecting armor.

FORMIDABILITY

Strength Class: Infinite 100%
Weaknesses: Space Objects 84%
Quality Opponents: Cosmic Being 84%
Limitations: Morals 50%

SCORE: 59

FORMIDABILITY:

BLOODLUSTED

Previously, Superboy-Prime struggled in a fight with the Flashes and was sent to the Speed Force. With the solar-collecting armor, Superboy-Prime managed to escape the Speed Force. Hence, his Strength Class is certainly Infinite Level.

And really, the two Supermen as his Quality Opponents are around Cosmic Being Level who can defeat cosmic beings and even skyfathers.

However, Superboy-Prime’s formidability is limited by his Morals. Though his solar-collecting armor does not protect him from Space Objects such as a red sun.

At the same time, he was eventually defeated not simply by red solar radiation since he managed to kill a depowered Earth-Two Superman but by his Superman complex and his inability to understand the evolution of New Earth.

QUALITY OPPONENTS

During the comic, Superboy-Prime faces the two Supermen, the JLA, JSA, the Titans and the Green Lantern Corps. Though SBP properly ranks as Skyfather.

FAN RECEPTION

Since its initial release, Infinite Crisis has remained very popular among fans. Recently, SBP resurfaced in Dark Nights: Death Metal as Wonder Woman prepared for battle against The Batman Who Laughs.

RECOMMENDATION:

Definitely, collect this dramatic crisis in single issues or paperback in comic format.

And that’s our best seller!

DB Comics Mailbag: How Do Punches From The Flash Hurt Superman?

In 'The Flash' (2016) #7, Flash (Barry Allen) strikes Godspeed with a lightning punch.

DB COMICS MAILBAG

Variant Comics

IN SUPER POWER EXPLAINED

AT A BASE LEVEL, FLASH IS STRONG ENOUGH TO CARRY A ROOM

The Flash (Barry Allen) suiting up.
The Flash (Barry Allen) suiting up. DC Comics.

In many respects, Flash has been described as the most powerful DC hero. Though Superman is the king in the super strength department, In The Brave and The Bold (1972) #99, Batman is possessed by the ghost of Manuel, who died 50 years ago. Each night the episode repeats itself. In order to seek help, Batman contacts Flash (Barry Allen). Together, they travel to the spirit world and find the truth.

To this end, Manuel is attempting to find bodies to possess in the realm of the living. Soon, Flash and Batman uncover the source of the possession: A black Egyptian Ankh. In the end, mustering his strength, Flash tosses the mystic Ankh into outer space.

Finally, Batman is freed from the possession.

Really, when we rate this feat, Flash’s super strength required him to propel the object strong enough to reach escape velocity. Per our calculations, a 1 kg object would need 5041000000 Joules of energy in order to reach the speed of a meteor, greater than escape velocity.

When we convert into mass, we realize Flash is strong enough to carry 1.142 tons, at least the mass of the average room.

Now, let’s answer the user’s question by looking at the main two Flashes, Barry Allen and Wally West.

How Flash’s Punches Can Hurt Superman

3. THE SPEEDBLITZ:

In 'Flash' (1991) #47, Flash hits Gorilla Grodd with a speedblitz of three thousand punches.
In The Flash (1991) #47, Flash hits Gorilla Grodd with a speedblitz of three thousand punches.

Among Flash’s signature attacks is the speedblitz. Generally, many speedsters in the DC Universe can perform this technique, including Superman. Particularly, Wally West has performed this technique on Gorilla Grodd.

In Feat: Nightwing, ‘Outsiders’ #3, we calculated that Grodd’s skin is at least 0.42 times as durable as bone. Since we used the 1 ton Metahuman Strength-Level as baseline, Grodd’s durability is likely higher.

In the issue, Flash hit Gorilla Grodd with 3000 punches in a few seconds. However, hitting Superman with 3000 punches that can shatter a room does add up. The added energy is 1.91*1011 Joules which is more than the energy released by a 1-ton nuke.

Of course, we know Superman can take a nuke. In fact, he can survive a million nuclear blasts. However, depending on the incarnations, the speedblitz can hurt weaker Superman versions.

2. LIGHTNING STRIKES/PUNCHES

In 'The Flash' (2016) #7, Flash (Barry Allen) strikes Godspeed with a lightning punch.
In The Flash (2016) #7, Flash (Barry Allen) strikes Godspeed with a lightning punch. DC Comics.

In the live-action CW The Flash series, the eponymous hero has developed multiple super powers as the seasons progress. Namely, he has the ability to generate and strike his foes with lightning.

In The Flash: The Complete Third Season, Flash (Barry Allen) matches Savitar’s lightning bolt. The Marvel & DC Wiki at Fandom, ranks this feat as Small City-Level.

In the comic medium, Barry has developed this ability in the Rebirth continuity. In The Flash: Lightning Strikes Twice, Flash empowers the citizens of Central City with the Speed Force, creating new speedsters.

Now, he has to face Godspeed, an enemy who can be at two places at the same time.

Early in the battle, Barry strikes Godspeed with a lightning punch, knocking him back. Then, in no condition to fight, Flash runs away. Typically, a lightning bolt can release one billion Joules of energy. In fact, this is powerful enough to power a city block.

Also, given that Barry’s Speed Force powered an entire city, the lightning bolts are potentially City Level. For his part, Superman has shown varying degrees of resistance to lightning and electricity, even magical lightning.

1. INFINITE MASS PUNCH

In 'JLA' (1997) #3, Flash remembers the Flash fact to use the infinite mass punch against Zum.
In JLA (1997) #3, Flash remembers the Flash fact to use the infinite mass punch against Zum. DC Comics.

In our Infinite Mass Punch (IMP) article, we mentioned that Flash has Infinite kinetic energy potential since he is a Speed Force Conduit. In effect, Flash can punch Superman with infinite force. You can register for a free membership in order to view our feat rating for Flash, Wally West, JLA Vol 1 #3.

At the same time, in his battle with Zum, Flash used the IMP and hit the time-traveling villain with the mass of a white dwarf star. In a battle with Superman, Flash can strike the Man of Steel with Infinite Level of Super Strength.

ANSWER:

In a battle with Superman, Flash can amp the impact force of his punches by accelerating near light speed. In effect, Flash can hit with infinite super strength.

ROBIN LATE ON A MISSION LEADS TO A SNOWBALL EFFECT: BATMAN FIRES HIM

“Nightwing: Year One” is a tape recording Nightwing sends through Batgirl to Batman about his decision to go solo. In the tape, Nightwing tells his story from his perspective about his departure from Batman. In ‘Nightwing’ (2005) #101, Nightwing begins his story. He tells that the event that snowballed his dismissal has been his recurrent late tardies on missions. In fact, he had been struggling with school, his work with the Titans and his responsibilities as Robin.

Suddenly, Robin arrives and realizes Batman is protecting a child from Clayface. Apparently, the situation was the result of a domestic dispute. In reality, the baby was Clayface’s baby. Asked to watch the baby, Robin rejects Batman’s order and goes after Clayface. Eventually, Robin defeats Clayface and the baby is returned to the mother. Back at the Batcave, Alfred welcomes Batman and Robin and goes to make some peanut butter and marshmallow cream on toast. Vociferously, Bruce tells Robin needs to be totally devoted and that he is Batman’s lieutenant. Angrily, Batman fires Robin. Robin departs leaving behind his new costume.

BRIDGE ONE: ROBIN MEETS WITH SUPERMAN TO TAKE UP THE NIGHTWING MANTLE

In ‘Nightwing’ (2005) #102, Robin starts building bridges in order to start his solo career. Seeking to come out of the shadows into the light, Dick meets with Clark Kent at the Daily Planet. Lois Lane is curious about who Richard Grayson is. Interestingly, she does some digging and finds out he is the adopted relative of billionnaire Bruce Wayne. Clark’s and Dicks conversation is cut short by police reports. Clark changes to Superman while Dick rushes to the scene with a hoodie, jumping on rooftops. On the scene, Superman meets with two terrorists who want to prevent the then current presidential election.

Superman manages to stop the first terrorist by removing in the air and destroying the bomb that was strapped to him with his heat vision. Meanwhile, Dick apprehends the second one and when he jumps down a building to prevent the bomb from detonating, Superman saves him and and catches the other terrorist. Back at the Fortress of Solitude, Dick and Superman have a discussion. Asked for advice, Superman tells Dick his inspiration for his crime-fighting is a Kryponian hero named Nightwing. Since Dick is committed to remaining a superhero and one day becoming Batman, Superman tells him to find his own “place of solitude.”1

BRIDGE THREE: NIGHTWING AND BATGIRL PROMOTE HIS NEW SOLO CAREER

In ‘Nightwing’ (2005) #104, Nightwing and Batgirl are on a date to promote his new solo career. After announcing to Commissioner Gordon, Nightwing debuts his solo career by apprehending thugs on the streeets of Gotham City. However, he is being watched. When Nightwing finds himself in a difficult situation, Batgirl intervenes riding a Batcycle. In reality, she is Batman’s informant. Nevertheless, Nightwing and Batgirl attempt to rekindle their romance.

Then, they decide to announce Nightwing’s solo career to the criminal elements in Gotham City. At Arkham Asylum, Nightwing roughs up Joker to put him on notice. At a strip club, both heroes take down wanted felons and seem to be having fun. They even head out to Penguin’s nightclub and send the GCPD on his tail. Nightwing shows he wants to build bridges within the superhero community and be better than Batman.

BRIDGE FOUR: NIGHTWING AND THE NEW ROBIN TEAM-UP TO TAKE DOWN KILLER CROC AND SAVE ALFRED

In ‘Nightwing’ (2005) #105, the philosophical differences between Batman and Nightwing are clear. Batman does not trust his proteges and wants to control them. However, Nightwing is optimistic and believes in teaching and passing down his knowledge and skills to his proteges, friends and teammates. When Batman decides to test Jason Todd, he disguises himself as a villain and Alfred as Two-Face. Unfortunately, as they drive in Gotham City to their destination, Batman is hurt and Alfred is captured by Killer Crocs henchmen.

Jason Todd meets Nightwing and prepares to fight him thinking it is a gauntlet. However, Batman contacts Nightwing and Robin telling them it is not a gauntlet. He tells them to find Alfred somewhere on the estuary. In ‘Nightwing’ (2005) #106, the conflict finds its resolution. Nightwing and Robin team-up to find Alfred and take down Killer Croc and his henchmen. As the Bat-family reconvenes at the Batcave, Nightwing sends Batman a tape. There, he tells him about his decision to go solo. The following day, Batman sends Dick his new Nightwing costume with a letter showing his support.
