In ‘Conan The Barbarian’ (1973) #24, the tale of the Serpent Tiara begins with Red Sonja who is drunk, dancing in front of Conan and soldiers at a bar.

The dancing catches the attention of Big Jax who invites Red Sonja over. Red Sonja protests and Conan ends up in a fight with Big Jax. A bar room fight follows.

Conan and Red Sonja infiltrate the royal palace of Makkalet. Red Sonja gives Conan a rope in order to climb a jeweled tower. Conan climbs and soon gives Red Sonja the rope to climb the tower.

Conan and Red Sonja find the Serpent Tiara which turns into a Devil-Beast without the magical spell being uttered. Conan ends up driving his sword into the serpent tiara, returning it into a crown.

Conan courts Red Sonja for a kiss multiple times. When Conan and Red Sonja escape the bar fight, they cool down in a lake. Red Sonja refuses Conan’s advance.

He tries again with no success as they are about to climb the tower. In the end, as Red Sonja escapes with the Serpent Tiara, having tricked Conan, Red Sonja reveals she will not kiss a man unless he can defeat her in battle.
