To begin, the success of Infinite Crisis stems from its massive event planning and preparation. In fact, the crossover event references continuity all the way to Crisis on Infinite Earths and ties some of its loose ends.

Moreover, it develops its main characters excellently and in Superman: Sacrifice, Superman’s and Wonder Woman’s philosophical differences place them on a collision course. Though we question the Amazon’s decision, her actions help to free Superman from mind control.

Really, the entire event has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Early, we successfully published a Superman vs Wonder Woman article.

The very fine and near mint comic is good for your DC Universe collection. This month, we celebrate Women’s History Month and Wonder Woman’s heroism. You can also collect the Infinite Crisis Omnibus (2020 Edition) to unfold the relationship in the DC Trinity.

In the Post-Crisis continuity, Superman has been the Justice League of America’s public figure as well as its tactical commander. In fact, Superman’s leadership commands respect from his peers. In contrast, Wonder Woman has played a similar role, particularly due to her expertise in war and her role as a diplomatic embassador for Themyscira.

Let’s list five reasons why Superman is the Justice League’s true inspiration and five reasons why Wonder Woman’s leadership uncovers deception and sees the vision of the DC Universe.

10. IN THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN PROTECTS THE LEAGUE AGAINST DOOMSDAY

The Death Of Superman (2018) is the 11th installment in the DC Animated Movie Universe. In the movie, the monster named Doomsday is on a rampage across the United States and it is up to the Justice League to stop it. When the situation seems hopeless, Wonder Woman arises to fight the monster. Though she eventually loses, her leadership causes Superman to go all-out.

9. IN JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK: APOKOLIPS WAR, SUPERMAN LEADS THE LEAGUE INTO WAR AGAINST APOKOLIPS

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020), is the final installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. At the beginning of the movie, Superman formulates a plan to invade Apokolips in order to prevent war on Earth. But Superman and the Justice League Dark are captured. After the Justice League’s forces are destroyed, John Constantine enacts a plan to save them. Finally, Superman is freed from Darkseid’s control on Apokolips. In the finale, an amped Superman takes on Darkseid toe-to-toe.

8. IN SUPERMAN: SACRIFICE, WONDER WOMAN FREES SUPERMAN FROM MAXWELL LORD’S MIND-CONTROL

In Superman: Sacrifice, Superman has attacked Batman at the Watchtower. After, the Justice League discovers that Maxwell Lord mind-controls Superman and has taken control of Brother Eye. Violently, Superman attacks the League and escapes. Now, with her powers of Truth, Wonder Woman tracks him down and locates Checkmate. After a vicious battle, Wonder Woman kills Maxwell to free Superman from his delusions. Really, a controversial decision that created a crisis of leadership in the Justice League. Importantly, it contributed to Infinite Crisis.

7. IN INFINITE CRISIS, SUPERMAN STOPS SUPERBOY-PRIME WITHOUT KILLING

In Infinite Crisis, the 52 universes in the DC multiverse are threatened of destruction by Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor Jr. Indeed, the villains seek to destroy the 52 earths to restore Earth-Prime, the perfect Earth. In a crisis of leadership, Earth-One and Earth-Two Supermen rise to save the multiverse. On the Green Lantern planet Mogo, a depowered Earth-One Superman defeats a depowered Superboy-Prime after flying through a red sun, delivering a speech that inspired fans.

6. IN ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, WONDER WOMAN LEADS THE LEAGUE IN BATTLE

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Wonder Woman shows why she is the League’s tactical leader. With Superman inactive, Wonder Woman leads the League in battle against Steppenwolf and the parademons. When Batman decides to sacrifice himself to drive Steppenwolf’s army away, Wonder Woman rallies the League to help him. Again, she saves Batman from death at the hands of Apokoliptian armies. In the end, she decapitates Steppenwolf with her magical sword.

5. IN BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN SACRIFICES HIMSELF TO KILL DOOMSDAY

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, is the second movie in Snyder’s trilogy. In the movie, Superman and Batman clash after Lex Luthor stages a political intrigue. In the finale, both heroes must fight with Wonder Woman against Doomsday, Luthor’s mutated Zod. In order to save the Earth and Lois Lane, Superman sacrifices himself, killing Doomsday with a kryptonite spear.

4. IN DARK NIGHTS: DEATH METAL, WONDER WOMAN CREATES THE FIRST ANTI-CRISIS

In Dark Nights: Death Metal, the DC heroes must stop an invasion from The Batman Who Laughs and the Dark multiverse. In order to stop the dangers to the multiverse once and for all, Wonder Woman leads the heroes into the first Anti-Crisis. After one final battle, she defeats The Batman Who Laughs in the death sun. At the end, the DC multiverse is restored with no frontiers and all the crises in continuity remembered.

3. IN FINAL CRISIS, SUPERMAN RESTORES THE DC MULTIVERSE

In Final Crisis, Darkseid finally conquered the Anti-Life Equation. Now, he set out to create a Fifth World on New Earth. During the crisis, even Nil is threatened by destruction by the Equation. In the end, Darkseid destroys the entirety of the DC multiverse, past, present and future. Only a group of heroes and civilians remain in space on the Watchtower. Proving to be the Justice League’s true leader, Superman uses his remaining stores of solar energy to activate the Miracle Machine and restore the DC multiverse. Though it was not the last crisis, since the multiverse was rebooted again after Flashpoint.

2. WONDER WOMAN REFUSES TO ASCEND AMONG THE QUINTESSENCE TO REMAIN HUMAN

With Infinite Frontier (2021) #0, the Quintessence shows Wonder Woman a vision of the new DC multiverse. Then, they congratulate the heroine and propose her to ascend into their ranks as a goddess. However, Wonder Woman declines to preserve her humanity and fight the impending darkness.

1. SUPERMAN INSPIRES PEOPLE BY REVEALING HIS SECRET IDENTITY

Perhaps, the greatest reason why Superman is the Justice League‘s best leader is his example. In Superman (2020) #18, Superman finally comes out and reveals his secret identity to the public. Though his peers questioned his decision and Batman feared mind control. At the same time, the decision also worsened his hero status. Definitely, a decision of momentous proportions that changed the status quo and shows how much the Man of Steel can inspire people around the world.

IN REDEMPTION

#WESTANDWITHZATANNA AND VICTIMS OF RAPE

In “Identity Crisis,” the JLA is faced with an ethical question. Indeed, the rape and the murder mystery of Sue Dibny drove deep wounds within the superhero community. Without a doubt, the Elongated Man’s wife was beloved. Regularly, she visited the Justice League atop the Watchtower.

Because of Sue Dibny’s rape, the Justice League faced a daunting ethical problem. In addition, Doctor Light was a threat to the League and their loved ones. In order to stop the psychopath, it was going to require drastic measures. But, the JLA members who responded to Sue’s signal and took down Doctor Light were split.

ZATANNA’S MINDWIPE THOUGH JUSTIFIED, WAS EXTREME

Divided, the JLA put the mindwipe to a vote. On one side, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Black Canary voted against the mindwipe. On the other side, Zatanna, Hawkman and Atom voted for the mindwipe. Decisively, Flash (Barry Allen) broke the tie in favor. Without a doubt, a watershed moment in DC history that led to a breach of trust. When Zatanna lobotomized Doctor Light, Batman also arrived on the Watchtower. To prevent opposition from the Dark Knight, Zatanna also mindwiped him.

Later, during “Identity Crisis,” Batman recovered his memory of the event. Because of the breach of trust, this led to Batman creating Brother Eye to spy on the metahuman population. As Superboy-Prime argued, the heroes stopped behaving like heroes. The consequences were the Omac Project and the “Infinite Crisis.” In retaliation for Superman’s mind-control, Wonder Woman killed Maxwell Lord in cold blood.

AGAINST ZATANNA: THE JLA SHOULD HAVE INCAPACITATED DOCTOR LIGHT’S POWERS

Given its intrusive nature, mindwipe is highly traumatic. Definitely, the mindwiped may end up worse off morally and personality-wise. In Batman’s case, this may explain the dark path he set upon after recovering his memory of the incident. For Doctor Light, it set him on a path to revenge. To this end, to destroy the JLA and the Teen Titans.

Later, Doctor Light accepted membership into the Secret Society of Supervillains. Certainly, it was a darker DC Universe. For its part, the JLA should have followed Green Lantern’s advice. Instead, Zatanna should have incapacitated Doctor Light’s use of his super powers. Also, to protect Sue, Doctor Light should have been sent under solitary confinement at a maximum security prison.

DC Day: In The Events Of ‘Superman: Sacrifice’, Wonder Woman Kills Maxwell Lord In Cold Blood

SUPERMAN… A THREAT?

In the events of ‘Superman: Sacrifice’ (2005), Wonder Woman kills Maxwell Lord. In ‘Superman (2005) #219, Clark and Lois are watching a documentary about Superman in bed. The documentary states natural disasters are particularly devastating and beyond human control, then it compares them to Superman. Clark turns off the documentary and wonders if the public sees him as a menace.

He mentions recent events at Puccalpa where he fought an OMAC to a standstill and people died. The event turned the people against him and he wonders why the attacker attacked him. The Disaster Week documentary continues and states that Superman’s heat vision is “off the charts by any of the standard scientific measures.” In between, are scenes of Clark at the Daily Planet talking to Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy mentions that Metropolis may be safer without Superman. At that moment, a beam attacks the Daily Planet.

Asking Jimmy to take cover, Superman takes into action in order to trace the beam to an apartment. Talking to one of the bystanders, Superman finds out the attacker has been using wires and screaming like a crazy person about Superman. Superman meets the super-villain, named Blackrock. He engages Blackrock in combat. Superman attempts to take down Blackrock in a series of attacks then resorts to the use of heat vision.

With an “enough!”, Superman resorts to an uncontrolled blast of heat vision. He pours the energy destroying the camera that Jimmy Olsen’s camerawoman was holding. A gas tank blows and things are catching fire. Even though Blackrock is no longer drawing power from the rock, Superman continues. When Jimmy Olsen shouts to Superman “Superman! He’s done!”, Superman stops. Asking why Blackrock attacked him, Blackrock states it is because he is Superman and an alien. Asking Jimmy how he is, Jimmy says he is alright. However, the woman is scared and flees. The public responds Superman is not human and nothing can hurt him. Superman takes the rock and throws it into the sun.

SUPERMAN IS MIND-CONTROLLED WITH VISIONS OF KILLING HIS ROGUES

In ‘Action Comics (2005) #829, Superman is mind-controlled with visions of killing Brainiac. In the morning, Lois awakes in bed in Metropolis and asks for “Clark.” She thinks about her marriage to Superman and says she does not understand him. She talks about his vision powers and how awe-inspiring they are. On the phone, Lois says she is worried about Clark because he did not come home. She found it new that Clark looked at her with doubt.

Elsewhere, Clark and Jimmy Olsen are on the scene on the latest Blackrock incident. Clark is happy no one was seriously injured. Jimmy asked the Daily Planet’s science writers to estimate peak temperatures and it seems it reached to about 1000 oC of glass melting. Clark asks Jimmy if Superman over-reacted and Jimmy is unsure. Jimmy does state that Superman used to save the nuclear option to big-bads like Doomsday and Gog and not second-raters like Blackrock. Clark heads back to the Daily Planet and asks to see Lois Lane. Peaking through the walls with his X-ray vision, he see Brainiac flirting with Lois Lane. Clark storms through the door.

Clark attempts to reassure Lois that he is here to save her. Lois tells Clark Brainiac is a friend. Lois says Clark is scaring her. Superman takes Lois away and activates the security protocols at their apartment. At the Fortress of Solitude, he is hunting down Brainiac with the Superman robot. Brainiac takes over the Superman robot and Superman quickly defeats him. Brainiac guides Superman to his location seven miles beneath the ocean in the Marianas Trench. It is the Brainiac Skull Ship. Superman engages Brainiac in combat. Brainiac states Lois he has looked into Lois’ mind and she does not know whether to call him Superman or Clark.

He states the problem is Superman is hiding from the truth: he is pretending to owe allegiance to a world he does not belong to. He is an alien. Brainiac states the humans fear Superman. Superman says “wrong!” and breaches the ship’s hull. Superman says he can withstand 16000 psi, but wonders if Brainiac can. At that moment, Brainiac shows Perry, Lana, Jimmy and Lois bottled up. Superman can’t save them and they are submerged by the waters. Then, Superman decides to kill Brainiac in order to avenge them. At that moment, a bright light erupts. Superman is at the Fortress of Solitude, kneeling, with blood in his hands and the Superman robot at his side. Then, the Justice League arrives.

SUPERMAN TAKES DOWN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA IN ORDER TO TAKE ON MAXWELL LORD

In ‘Adventures of Superman’ (2005) #642, Superman realizes his visions were a mind control that resulted in him nearly killing Batman. Superman is on the Justice League Watchtower on the moon, inspecting Batman’s bruised. He recognized the thumbprints on Batman’s neck and realizes they are his. However, he refuses to believe it. Wonder Woman who had been standing behind Superman for thirty minutes comes into the room to operate the purple ray on Bruce.

Superman states he did not do it and she says she knows. Wonder Woman states Superman is “the strongest of us in almost every way.” Superman states he keeps seeing images of Lois dying, of Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid or Ruin. Wonder Woman says she will join him in the Conference Room where Martian Manhunter has finished his analysis of the security recordings.

The security recordings show Superman attacking Batman, slamming him on the Watchtower computer and then engaging turrets and a defense drone. Superman fires heat vision at Batman. At that moment, Wonder Woman teleports on the Watchtower and blocks the heat vision. Then, she ties Superman with her lasso. Strategically, Superman breaches the Watchtower hull twice, once to counter Wonder Woman and then to escape.

Superman says he thought he was fighting Ruin. Following a mind scan to heal the implanted psychotic episode in Superman’s mind, it is found that Maxwell Lord is at the origin of the mind control. Wonder Woman teleports away Batman to safety. As the Justice League prepares to place Superman in a teleportation loop. Superman sensing their menace, attacks.

WONDER WOMAN GOES TOE TO TOE WITH SUPERMAN

In ‘Wonder Woman’ (2005) #219, Wonder Woman has tracked Superman’s whereabouts to Maxwell Lord’s location. Speaking to Maxwell Lord, she finds out he secretly stole Batman’s Brother MK I, murdered Blue Beetle and has Superman under mind control. Maxwell Lord says he has absolute control over Superman and that he has filled him with visions of paranoia. As Wonder Woman is about to convince Maxwell Lord, Superman comes in at high speed. Maxwell Lord has convinced Superman that Wonder Woman is Doomsday and that she has murdered Lois.

Superman fires heat vision at Wonder Woman who can barely get her bracelets up. Then, he takes her to the sun. As they approach the sun, Wonder Woman takes out some Kryptonite. However, Superman punches her back to Earth. She blacks out for an instant. Wonder Woman crash lands in Wyoming. As she comes out of the crater, Superman freezes her. As Superman listens to find Wonder Woman, she hits his ears with her bracelets causing a concussion. Then, the turn of the battle.
