In ‘JLA’ (1997) #3 titled “War Of The Worlds”, Flash performs a super-strength feat. Flash is fighting the White Martian super-villain called Zum from the Hyperclan. Flash uses the infinite mass punch in order to knock out Zum at escape velocity.

How much super-strength does it take to knock out Zum the White Martian with the Infinite Mass Punch?

In ‘JLA’ (1997) #3, Flash performs a super-strength feat. Flash’s infinite mass punch sends Zum into escape velocity at seven miles per second. DC Comics.

In order to defeat Zum, Flash performs the Infinite Mass Punch. Incredibly, Zum reaches escape velocity traveling from Mount Rushmore to the Eastern parts of Africa.

We will estimate Martian Manhunter’s durability to calculate the energy projection of the Infinite Mass Punch.

MARTIAN MANHUNTER’S DURABILITY

In Breach (2005) #4, Martian Manhunter regenerates from Breach’s energy blast. Since Breach is the Captain Atom of Earth-Eight, his super powers are likely quantum-based. In fact, Breach nearly disintegrated J’onn J’onnz. Likely, Breach has the power of an atomic bomb, similar to Captain Atom.

We will use this feat to estimate Martian Manhunter’s durability and calculate the energy projection of Flash’s IMP.


NUMBER CRUNCHING


Since Breach has similar powers to Captain Atom’s, we will assume the following. In fact, Captain Atom often explodes with the force of an atomic bomb. Similarly, Breach blasted Martian Manhunter with a nuke though there was no radiation. If we assume 10 tons of TNT, the energy used would be around 4.2*1010 Joules.

That means a White Martian such as Zum would be able to survive a nuke as their limit. However, since Flash used the Infinite Mass Punch, he likely hit Zum with infinite momentum. In general relativity, infinite mass is required to accelerate to the speed of light. Let’s calculate the momentum.

Momentum = mv = (∞)(3*108 m/s) = ∞.

Hence, Flash hit Zum with infinite force.

F = ma = (∞)(∞) = ∞.

ENERGY PROJECTION


Accelerating his mass to infinity, Wally hit Zum with the Infinite Mass Punch. Zum reached past escape velocity at infinite speed, faster than light, traveling from Mount Rushmore to Eastern Africa.

Flash generated infinite momentum. In order to send Zum into escape velocity, Flash had to generate an Infinite level of Super Strength.
