Hulk dodged Thor’s high speed hammer throw in a revamp origin story for the Avengers. We will calculate the force of Hulk’s jump to determine his kinetic energy.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

According to the Thor article on Marvel Database, the God of Thunder can throw his hammer at speeds up to Mach 32 or 10976 meters per second.

Since Hulk jumped vertically about five meters above the ground, he had both kinetic and potential energies.
Let’s calculate the total work. In addition, Thor’s Hammer Is Not That Heavy (But It Is Scientifically Interesting)
states a Marvel trading card cited Mjolnir weighs 42.3 pounds or 19.18696 kg. Also, we assume Thor threw his hammer 10 meters away.

First, we calculate the acceleration of Thor’s hammer. We assume constant deceleration.
t = d/v = (10 m)/(10976 m/s) = 0.00091107871 s.
v = v0 + at. a = (v – v0)/t = (-10976 m/s)/(0.00091107871 s) = -12047257.6952 m/s2.

Then, we calculate the net force of Hulk’s jump.
F = Fgrf – W = (635.03 kg)(12047257.6952 m/s2) – (635.03 kg)(9.81 m/s2) = 7650363824.54 N.

Since the work done equals his kinetic energy, we can calculate the speed.
Work = Fd = (1/2)(mv2) = (7650363824.54 N* 5 m) = 38251819122.7 J.
v = ((2Fd)/(m))^(1/2) = ((2*7650363824.54 N* 5 m)/(635.03 kg))^(1/2) = 10975.9955745 m/s.

SUPER-SPEED

Hulk generated at least 38251819122.7 J of kinetic energy to dodge Thor’s hammer. Hulk had to generate supersonic speed since he dodged the hammer at least at MACH 32.
