ORIGIN STORY
On Zenn-La, Norrin Radd was born to Jartran Radd and Elmar Radd. Incredibly, Zenn-La was a utopia that had eradicated poverty, want, disease and crime. Despite these, Norrin Radd’s mother committed suicide as a result of Zenn-Lavian hedonism.1 Norrin himself, was named after famed scientist Norrin Konn who lifted Zenn-La from barbarism into utopia.2 To this end, Norrin Radd grew up seeking adventure and glory apart from the hedonism of the day. Moreover, he found a lover in Shalla Bal.3
On a fateful day, the planet was threatened by Galactus. Known as the Devourer of Worlds, the cosmic entity was able to withstand in its starcraft even the Weapon Supreme. Sensing doom, Norrin was the last man still willing to fight. As a last effort, a Council of Scientists member fashioned him a craft so he could meet their invader in space.3
Aboard the ship, Norrin bargained with the star god. In order to spare Zenn-La, Norrin Radd became Galactus’ herald. Granting him the Power Cosmic, Galactus transformed Norrin into a silvery-skinned cosmic being and a silver surfboard. He became the Silver Surfer to seek out worlds for Galactus to consume.3
