THOR ODINSON
EARTH-616

In Thor (1988) #388 titled “Alone Against the Celestials!”, Thor performs an energy projection feat. In the issue, Thor must protect the planet Pangoria from extermination by two Celestials. To do so, the God of Thunder fights Exitar the Celestial. During the fight, Thor cracks Exitar’s brain dome with the godblast.

How much energy projection does it take for Thor to crack Exitar’s brain dome with the godblast?

IN THE ISSUE, THOR CRACKED EXITAR’S 23781.3333333 KILOGRAM BRAIN DOME WITH THE GODBLAST.

LIKELY, THE CELESTIALS PRODUCED THOUGHTS AT THE SPEED OF THOUGHT, 120 METERS PER SECOND.

IMPORTANTLY, THE GODBLAST GENERATED 2.8208787*1024 WATTS OF POWER. ENOUGH TO DESTROY MULTIPLE CONTINENTS.

HOWEVER, THE FEAT LIKELY REQUIRED INFINITE POWER DUE TO THE CELESTIALS’ LIKELY INFINITE THOUGHTS PER SECOND.

Database Comics
In order to defeat Exitar, Thor hits Exitar with the godblast. Incredibly, he manages to crack Exitar’s brain dome.

We will estimate Exitar’s thought process to calculate the energy projection of the godblast.

EXITAR’S MENTAL ENERGY PROJECTION

In What If? Newer Fantastic Four (2008) #1, we learn the Celestial armor is controlled from Hyperspace. In fact, they are powered by willpower and controlled by thought. Since willpower and thought are mental powers, we can state they are function of thoughts in the brain.

We will use this statement to estimate the Celestials’ thoughts per second. Then, we will calculate the energy projection of their thought process.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

According to Celestials, they are humanoid race of nigh-omnipotent beings. In addition, they are over 2000 feet (210 m) tall and weigh over 250 tons. So, due to the square cube law, the brain size should increase with respect to the increase of surface area. In this instance, we use the volume. In fact, the average brain has a volume of 0.001274 m3.

V2 = V1 (l2/l1)2 = (0.001274 m3) (20 m/0.15 m)2 = 22.6488888889 m3.

Then, we have to assume the Celestials are gigantic humans. So, we can find the mass using the density of the human brain.

d V2 = m2 = (1050 kg/m3)(22.6488888889 m3) = 23781.3333333 kg.

According to an article by Newsweek, psychologists discovered humans have 6000 thoughts a day. If we divide by the number of hours, that is about 4.30555555556 a minute. And the speed of thought is 120 m/s. In addition, it takes about thousands of neurons to form one thought. Also, neuron density is about 55.6*103 neurons/kg. According to NOVA, a thought weighs the mass of an electron, 9.10938356 × 10-31 kilograms.

Finally, let’s calculate the power output of the brain dome in Watts or Joules per second.

Power output of Exitar’s Brain Dome =((4.30555555556 thoughts * 23781.3333333 kg * 1 brain * 1 kg * 1 thought * 1000 neurons)(120 m/s)^2)/(2*60 s *1 brain * 86*109 neurons * 55.6*103 thoughts * 9.10938356 * 10-31 kg * 1 thought) = 2.8208787*1024 W.

ENERGY PROJECTION

First, Thor hit Exitar’s Brain Dome with the godblast. Hence, Thor cracked the 23781.3333333 kg Brain Dome powered by thought.

To this end, Thor generated 2.8208787*1024 W of Energy Projection. In order to crack Exitar’s Brain Dome, Thor had to generate a Stellar Level of Energy Projection. However, this likely required infinite power since the Celestial likely has infinite thoughts per second.

Calculations for Thor, Thor Vol 1 #388

Speed of thought = 120 m/s.
Thoughts/Minute = 4.30555555556 thoughts/minute.
Neuron density = 55.6*10^3 neurons/kg. Mass of Thought = 9.10938356 × 10^-31 kg.

V2 = V1 (l2/l1)2 = (0.001274 m3) (20 m/0.15 m)2 = 22.6488888889 m3.
d V2 = m2 = (1050 kg/m3)(22.6488888889 m3) = 23781.3333333 kg.
Power output of Exitar’s Brain Dome =((4.30555555556 thoughts * 23781.3333333 kg * 1 brain * 1 kg * 1 thought * 1000 neurons)(120 m/s)^2)/(60 s * 1 brain * 86*10^9 neurons * 55.6*10^3 thoughts * 9.10938356*10^-31 kg * 1 thought) = 5.6417574*10^24 W.
Comparison = (5.6417574*10^24 * 100 W)/(3.846×10^26 W) = 1.46 %.
