WHAT ARE THE DEFENDERS?

In 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home released with excitement and fan celebration. As the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie grossed nearly two billion dollars at the box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has an aggregate score of 93 percent since 2021.

According to a popular fan theory, Spider-Man may lead the potential New Avengers in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. At the same time, we think Luke Cage and the Defenders may join the potential New Avengers team.

Let’s list reasons why Luke Cage may join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

THE DEFENDERS JOIN THE MCU

Unfortunately, the Defenders Netflix series was cancelled in 2017. However, in a surprising move, the Netflix characters have joined the MCU. In Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and She-HULK: Attorney at Law (2022), Charlie Cox's Daredevil has appeared. Perhaps, signaling a larger role in the coming sagas.

Importantly, DD returns in a new series on Disney+ titled Daredevil: Born Again set for a 2024 release. Also, Jon Bernthal's Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin return in the show. Certainly, a sign the MCU is growing its multiverse towards the Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

AFTER CIVIL WAR, LUKE CAGE LED THE NEW AVENGERS

During Avengers: Disassembled (2004) and Civil War (2007), Captain America led the New Avengers team in secret. After the Death of Captain America and the beginning of the New Heroic Age, Luke Cage led the New Avengers team with Iron Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Wolverine, The Sentry and Ronin. With the Defenders and potentially Luke Cage joining the MCU, this may signal the formation of the New Avengers though led by Spider-Man.

According to ScreenRant, Luke Cage may appear in several MCU projects. In our fan theory, we think the Defenders and Luke Cage are important in helping Spider-Man return to active status and eventually form the New Avengers.
