In Avengers (1965) #16, the Avengers defeat the Masters of Evil. Originally, the villain team consists of Melter, Black Knight, Executioner, Enchantress and Baron Zemo. Apparently, Baron Zemo dies and is buried by Cap’ and Rick Jones. To end, Thor transports Melter, Black Knight and the Avengers to another dimension. There, Melter and Black Knight are captured. However, the Asgardians Enchantress and Executioner escape. At the next Avengers meeting, Thor is MIA.

In addition, Wasp decides to leave because of the team’s dangers. When Iron Man and Giant Man debate disbanding the Avengers, Hawkeye infiltrates the mansion. To this end, he wants membership. Soon, the Avengers announce they are accepting new members. After Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver submit their request by letter, they are accepted. Before the media, Cap’s Kooky Quartet is announced though questions remain about their level of power.

ENCHANTRESS AND POWER MAN DEFEAT THE AVENGERS

In Avengers (1965) #21, Erik Josten is in the Amazon jungle. There, the former Baron Zemo agent is digging through rubble for the entrance through his lab. Since he is a wanted criminal in Europe, he hopes to repeat the experiment that created the super-powered Wonder Man. In this way, he hopes to change his fate. As fate would have it, the mischievous Enchantress views Erik in a vision and departs to his aid. There, she appears to him in the lab. Mischievously, she promises to work the machine for him.

When he gains super strength, Enchantress seduces the newly-christened Power Man to destroy the Avengers. Soon enough, Enchantress creates illusions around the city of the Avengers destroying property. When Cap’ learns of their plot, he fights Power Man. But he is no match for the super strong enemy. Afterwards, each Avenger is defeated except for Scarlet Witch. In humiliation, the Avengers are caught for trespassing and soon disband.

AFTER CLEARING THEIR NAMES, CAP’ LEAVES THE AVENGERS

After disbanding, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch join a circus. But it turns out to be the Circus of Crime. Deceptively, they pose as a normal circus and call the police. In addition, they claim the Avengers attempted to rob them. Panickingly, the Avengers flee.

Meanwhile, Captain America poses as a publicity man. Successfully, he records Power Man on tape admitting his crime. Finally, the Avengers band together and defeat Power Man and Enchantress. With the tape, the Avengers clear their names. However, Cap’ leaves the Avengers at the end of the issue.
