COLLECTING:

Doomwar #1-6

Critically, Doomwar, is the most important Doctor Doom story Post-Civil War. After an orchestrated Coup d’Etat, Black Panther goes into hiding. Dangerously, Doctor Doom threatens Wakanda and its most precious treasure.

Together, writer Jonathan Maberry and artist Scot Eaton collaborate on the story. Though among the darkest Marvel stories, the writing highlights the complexity of monarchical rule. Nevertheless, the art in the book is characteristic of Black Panther comics: muscular, complex and brutal.

Moreover, Black Panther vs Doctor Doom.

Indeed, share this graphic novel to fans of Doctor Doom, at comic clubs and Comic-Cons. Definitely, it is worth its price and will leave you wanting for more Doctor Doom! And Black Panther!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, this comic is one of the most important Doctor Doom stories. Many events after Black Panther: The Bride, Doctor Doom decides to invade Wakanda. Dangerously, Doom presents as a formidable threat, personal, political and planetary, to Black Panther and Wakanda.

Importantly, after a political coup, Black Panther must choose between Wakanda and his love for Ororo. Witness Doctor Doom’s pure faith in Doomworld, or, pure evil! However, the story may prove too dark for some audiences.

The comic is excellent for your collection. You will definitely love the action, the characters’ muscular physiques and the dramatic ending. This is the comic to own in order to build your Doctor Doom collection.

This product has 39 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.3 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “Wakanda has been conquered, its Vibranium reserves plundered. Storm faces execution in the next 48 hours. And Dr. Doom stands triumphant. It will take the combined forces of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the two Black Panthers to stand against him. A war has begun that will pit the world’s most relentless super villain against a collection of the world’s most powerful super heroes–one that will span the globe, offering twists and turns and surprise players (hello Deadpool!) that neither side will see coming.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

In addition, there are 4 negative global ratings. One negative review pointed the poor character writing: “Doomwar is basically a continuation of writer Jonathan Maberry’s Black Panther series. While I thought the series was decent this book isn’t even close. The political machinations that were present during Christopher Priest’s run on Black Panther are poorly imitated here and the book is loaded with great characters acting nothing at all like themselves. The inclusion of some characters is insanely ridiculous. The art by Scot Eaton is very good but nothing could save this flop of a story.”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Hardcover and Paperback formats available.
  • Great writing.
  • Saves Black Panther’s marriage.

NEGATIVE:

  • Not enough customer review ratings.
  • Story dark for some audiences.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this comic as the most important Doctor Doom story Post-Civil War.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

In 'Marvel Universe: The End' (2003) #5, Thanos faces the Marvel Universe assembled.
In Marvel Universe: The End (2003) #5, Thanos faces the Marvel Universe assembled. Marvel Comics.

QUALITY OPPONENTS

Generally, our formidability takes into account a character’s quality of opponents. Using this hierarchy, we can formulate a Power Hierarchy. Namely, it is the following:

Peak Human, Assassin, Metahuman, Criminal Mastermind/Team-Wrecker, Warrior, Hi-Tech Genius/Enhanced, Political Leader, Demon or Monster/Supernatural Being, Champion, Cosmic Being, Skyfather, God or Abstract.

Before we rank the Top 10, let’s list some rules.

  1. First, only beings below God or Abstract are included. God or Abstract include Galactus, Eternity, Living Tribunal, Beyonder, One-Above-All.
  2. Since we focus on feats, we will go by inventions or planning only.
  3. Different races in the Marvel Universe are included such as the Eternals, humans, Inhumans.

Let’s rank our Top 10.

10. PROFESSOR XAVIER

Professor X. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Metahuman 17%

POWER HIERARCHY:

METAHUMAN

What seems like a benign invention has actually changed the course of Marvel history. Namely, Professor X’s Cerebro is actually an E.S.P. device that helps him locate good and bad mutants.

Generally, though telepathy is a super power in the Marvel Universe, we can count it as super-genius intelligence. For the reason that being granted access to the secret thoughts and desires of men is definitely a god-like ability or super power.

Furthermore, Professor X has the intelligence to show for it. As matter of fact, an expert in genetics and the life sciences, the Professor X has shown remarkable scientific ingenuity s well as planning in combat situations.

Definitely, I would not want to mess with someone who once defeated Phoenix in a psionic battle!

9. BLACK BOLT

Black Bolt. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Cosmic Being 83%

POWER HIERARCHY:

COSMIC BEING

Though not really an inventor, Black Bolt is nonetheless one of the most capable scientists on Marvel Earth. During Infinity, Black Bolt invented the T-bomb.

When detonated, the bomb would cause all humans to undergo Terrigenesis and become Inhumans. Definitely, a nightmarish thought!

8. BLACK PANTHER

Black Panther. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Metahuman 17%

POWER HIERARCHY:

METAHUMAN

As matter of fact, Black Panther is really a super-genius. Early, T’Challa earned a PhD in physics from Oxford University. Generally, Black Panther is a master tactician, problem solver and inventor.

During the Doomwar, T’Challa revealed he combined his knowledge of physics with alchemy in order to create new scientific discipline: shadow physics.

Now let’s move onto an actual scalable feat. During the Incursion in Secret Wars, Black Panther actually helped design the life raft. Moreover, he also designed an inter-dimensional planet-busting bomb!

Generally speaking, T’Challa is rated among the eight smartest minds on Earth. And he deserves it!

7. BEAST

Beast. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Metahuman 17%

POWER HIERARCHY:

METAHUMAN

In his Top 25 Smartest list, Victor Grubbs at CBR.com calls Beast a Renaissance man. What makes Hank McCoy stand out is that despite his blue monster appearance, he is very intellectually gifted, a man of culture and letters.

From the beginning, Beast was a founding member of the original X-Men. Furthermore, he would join the Avengers, X-Factor and even the Secret Avengers during Civil War.

In the intelligence department, Beast is among the eight smartest people on Marvel Earth. Namely, his expertises in medicine, anatomy, biophysics, electronics, biochemistry and genetics are at the top.

Among his most remarkable feats is his discovery of the hormonal extract that causes the X-gene. In addition, Hank discovered a cure to the Legacy Virus that devastated the mutant population.

6. HANK PYM

Hank Pym. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Team-Wrecker 42%

POWER HIERARCHY:

TEAM-WRECKER

Without a doubt, Hank Pym is a revolutionary mind in the Marvel Universe. Really, there was hesitation as who has been the more inventive mind between Ant-Man and Iron Man. Later, we will see why Iron Man deserves the higher spot.

Among the most inventive minds on Earth, Hank Pym has been called by the Abstract named Eternity, “Earth’s Scientist Supreme.”1 Really, his discoveries have been ground-breaking.

Thanks to the Pym Particles, he discovered the Microverse by shrinking to subatomic scale and the Macroverse by increasing his size near infinity.

Though he is a super-genius, his attitude and his most important malfunctioning inventions – namely, Ultron – have prevented him from succeeding. Often times, he has been considered a failure. Read our Avengers: Rage of Ultron product review.

5. IRON MAN

Iron Man. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Enhanced 50%

POWER HIERARCHY:

ENHANCED

For the most part, Tony Stark is a businessman, a public figure and an inventor in the Marvel Universe. Importantly, he is well known for his Iron Man armors which have continually evolved over the years in response to threats and personal challenges.

Two reasons why Iron Man has succeeded where Hank Pym has not: his inventions have successfully revolutionized business and he has recovered from addiction.

At the same time, Iron Man performed a feat that has outclassed Hank. In AvX, Tony invents the Phoenix Killer Armor which temporarily bombs the Phoenix, though splitting it in the Phoenix Five.

4. BRUCE BANNER

Dr. Bruce Banner. Marvel Comics

Power Hierarchy: Cosmic Being 83%

POWER HIERARCHY:

COSMIC BEING

Generally, BannerTech is developed in order to solve a problem. Regularly, Hulk is hunted by the authorities, the heroes and villains. To this end, Bruce’s expertise in gamma radiation has enabled him to create devices for teleportation, force fields or hologram projection.

For the sheer ingenuity of his inventions, Dr. Banner belongs near the top of this list.

3. THANOS

Thanos. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Skyfather 92%

POWER HIERARCHY:

SKYFATHER

Certainly, Thanos needs no introduction. Indeed, his villainy, intelligence and resources make him a fomidable foe. Importantly, Thanos’ inventions are for a single purpose: universal destruction!

In Annihilation, Thanos proved why he may be the Marvel Universe’s most dangerous foe. After Tenebrous and Aegis captured Galactus and Silver Surfer, the captured were turned over to the Annihilation Wave.

Dangerously, in order to help Annihilus conquer the Prime Universe, Thanos imprisoned Galactus to a bomb that was absorbing the energy he was feeding on. And the ultimate purpose was to destroy the Marvel multiverse for the Negative Zone.

2A/2B. REED RICHARDS/DOCTOR DOOM

Mister Fantastic. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Metahuman 17%

POWER HIERARCHY:

METAHUMAN

Doctor Doom. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Skyfather 92%

POWER HIERARCHY:

SKYFATHER

Not much needs to be said about these two rivals. As matter of fact, Mister Fantastic is ahead of Doctor Doom, especially in the science department. Overall, they are in a league of their own. And that says a lot.

1. HIGH EVOLUTIONARY

High Evolutionary. Marvel Comics.

Power Hierarchy: Skyfather 92%

POWER HIERARCHY:

SKYFATHER

Among the Skyfathers in Marvel, other than Odin, Zeus, Mephisto and Thanos, High Evolutionary is among the greatest scientific minds. At his highest, High Evolutionary is able to predict the universe from beginning to end.

In addition, he is the actual father of twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Furthermore, read our product review for Uncanny Avengers: Counter-Evolutionary.

Where High Evolutionary outclasses every super-genius on the list, is the fact that he has used science to actually create life. Moreover, he created Counter-Earth where Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch travel in the comic.

And that’s our ranking! Don’t forget to leave comments if you liked the Super Power Explained.

IN CIVIL RIGHTS

THE HEROES OF EARTH SHOULD HAVE BANDED TOGETHER

In New Avengers: Illuminati (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms. After the Kree-Skrull war, Iron Man convenes a meeting. In attendance are Mister Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, King Namor, Black Bolt and Professor X. As matter of fact, Iron Man and the attendees recognize the war could have been averted. Indeed, it would if the different superhero teams had pooled resources and intel.

Despite their acknowledgements, the meeting highlights the differences among the various factions. For his part, Iron Man favors forming a delegation of superheroes to serve a united front against future threats. However, his idea is opposed by every other attendee, especially Namor. In some sense, Iron Man proves prescient as this move could have averted the major crisis to befall the Marvel Universe: Civil War. Though, the Illuminati forms.

In 'New Avengers: Illuminati' (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms.
In New Avengers: Illuminati (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms. Marvel Comics.

IRON MAN’S FUTURISM COULD HAVE PREVENTED CIVIL WAR

Forward in time, after House of M, the Illuminati convenes. Due to House of M, Professor X is absent. During the meeting, Iron Man informs them of important news. Recently, the U.S. government is planning on passing the Superhero Registration Act. As a result of House of M, 198 and Secret War, this is a likely development. Really, Tony explains how his mind and Reed’s work. As an inventor, industrialist and businessman, Tony is a futurist.

Hence, he is able to predict social trends and what people need. Correctly, he predicts what the New Warriors would later do in their quest for fame. Consequently, he advises the Illuminati to get onboard. However, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt and King Namor forcefully refuse. Only Mister Fantastic agrees. Though Tony’s views are extreme, they highlight the fact he was correct: Early on, the heroes of Earth should have formed a delegation. In the end, the Illuminati were a missed opportunity.

THE DIFFERENT TEAMS AT THE END OF HOUSE OF M

X-MEN

At the end of the story, Scarlet Witch uttered the spell “no more mutants.” Only 198 mutants remain on Earth. At Xavier’s Institute, Emma Frost finds out that many mutants are powerless. In the issue, the X-Men find a depowered Magneto in Genosha. About Wanda, here whereabouts are unknown.

NEW AVENGERS

At Avengers Tower, the memories of the New Avengers have been restored. In shock, Doctor Strange feels he has failed his duty to protect Earth. For his part, Spider-Man demands that Strange erase their memories of House of M. To which Doctor Strange declines. Unfortunately, the New Avengers face Hawkeye‘s apparent death.

House of M. Marvel Comics.

TIMES WHEN IRON MAN WAS CORRECT

AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED

In Avengers Disassembled: Chaos, the Avengers are attacked by a mysterious force. First, there is the resurrected Jack-Of-Hearts who attacks Avengers Mansion. Then Tony is inexplicably drunk without having a drink.

This leads to a violent outburst at the U.N. Then, Vision attacks the Avengers. Finally, She-Hulk brutally rips Vision apart. Correctly, Iron Man realizes that the attacks are connected. Though the Avengers disagree.

AVX

In AvX, Tony is correct twice. The first time, he correctly designs a Phoenix-Killer Armor. Powerfully, he detonates it on the moon. Though the Phoenix is destroyed, it splits into the Phoenix Five.

Later, Iron Man correctly deduces the reason for the Phoenix Force’s return to Earth. The Phoenix Force and Chaos Magic are like yin and yang. Indeed, the Phoenix returned because of Scarlet Witch’s “no more mutants.”

CIVIL WAR II

In Civil War II, Tony comes into blows with Carol Danvers. During an invasion by a Celestial Destructor, the Ultimates used information from an Inhuman. Namely, Ulysses provided information to save the day. When Captain Marvel wanted Ulysses to join the Ultimates, Iron Man opposed the decision.

Correctly, he questioned Ulysses’ mysterious powers, whether the future can be changed and the morality of pre-emptive strikes. Though conflict soon followed with several tragedies. Such as the deaths of War Machine and Hulk. After, there was a final battle between Iron Man and Captain Marvel. Apparently, Tony died. In the end, jumping between futures, Ulysses vanished to meet Eternity.

IN CRISES

AFTER THE KREE-SKRULL WAR, THE ILLUMINATI FORMS

In ‘New Avengers: Illuminati’ (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms while Black Panther leaves. To begin, Iron Man has convened a secret meeting in Wakanda with Professor X, Black Bolt, King Namor, Mister Fantastic, Black Panther and Doctor Strange. After the Kree-Skrull War, Iron Man believes the disaster could have been averted if the heroes had shared the pieces of information they possessed. In his prescience, Iron Man proposes to gather the different superhero teams together in order to share resources and information.

Forward in the future, perhaps, the Superhero Registration Act could have been averted had the heroes presented a united front early on. Hopefully, he intends to create a planetary law enforcement to the rest of the universe. Unfortunately, the other attendees do not agree. First, Mister Fantastic questions the scale of the “delegation” and a qualified leadership.1 Second, Doctor Strange raises the problem of bureaucracy. Third, Professor X states Iron Man’s proposition is based on the new fear of the Avengers after the War. Fourth, Black Panther predicts that humans and mutant heroes alike would end up hated together.

In 'New Avengers: Illuminati' (2006) #1, King Namor questions each faction's morality.

KING NAMOR VOTES IN FAVOR OF FORMING THE ILLUMINATI

Fifth, King Namor points out that the Avengers have recruited terrorists such as Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Hawkeye. In addition, he tells of rumors of a Canadian mutant working as an assassin referring to Wolverine. Finally, he questions whether Black Bolt’s brother who was the architect of the invasion, was executed for his crimes.Nevertheless, Mister Fantastic sees merit in sharing information to save lives.

In fact, Doctor Strange suggests they meet privately and Mister Fantastic agrees for the “big things.”1 For his part, Namor trusts the attendees but asks for secrecy. Though he is hesitant, Professor X agrees to scan the minds of everyone at Iron Man’s request. Decisively, Mister Fantastic decides to put forming the team to a vote. All are in favor, except Black Panther. Sternly, he questions the group’s cohesion and the need for secrecy. Then, he departs.

OPPOSING THE HULK DECISION, NAMOR PREDICTS HULK WILL SEEK VENGEANCE ON THE ILLUMINATI

In a recent rampage in Las Vegas, Hulk killed 26 people and a dog. During the S.H.I.E.L.D. briefing, Maria Hill questions what the heroes are doing about the situation. Similarly, she relates Hulk’s lack of control and sporadic heroism to Spider-Man and his unwillingness to finish off Green Goblin alias Norman Osborn. For its part, the government is looking to blame the heroes for their inaction. Some time later, during “House of M,” the Illuminati convene at the Avengers Hydrobase, a former base of operations.

Sinisterly, Iron Man proposes to rocket Hulk into space on an abandoned planet where he will not hurt anyone. Angrily, Namor accuses the heroes of not doing enough to help cure Bruce Banner and opposes the decision. Strongly, Mister Fantastic defends his work in attempting to cure Thing and dampen Hulk; even, Doctor Strange’s attempts to banish Hulk at the crossroads. In reverse, Namor sees the move as retaliation for the Avengers’ failure to prevent House of M.

KING NAMOR VOTES AGAINST HULK’S EXILE

Nevertheless, Mister Fantastic puts it to a vote: Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt and Doctor Strange vote in favor. Violently, Namor attacks Iron Man. To no avail, Mister Fantastic tries to restrain him but Namor goes in pursuit. Sluggishly, the two heroes slug it out underwater. Until, Doctor Strange puts an end to the brawl by encasing both in spells.

Again, King Namor opposes the decision. Prophetically, he predicts Hulk will come back to Earth and he will kill the Illuminati. In fact, he will be correct. Now free, Namor plunges into the waters stating that T’Challa was also correct. Due to “House of M,” Professor X was absent from the vote.

HULK INVADES EARTH AND FORCES THE ILLUMINATI PRISONERS TO FIGHT AS GLADIATORS

When World War Hulk invaded the Earth, he set up a gladiatorial arena in New York City. In ‘World War Hulk’ (2007) #4, Hulk forces the Illuminati to fight as gladiators. Strapped with Obedience Disks, Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, a “Black Bolt” usurper and Doctor Strange fight against a Devil Korker from Sakaar.

Together, they work in team and manage to defeat the monster. Then, in a twist, World War Hulk activates their Obedience Disks to force them to fight each other to the death. When Mister Fantastic defeats Tony Stark, he fights against giving him the killing blow. Heroically, Tony tells him it is the right thing in order to save billions. Sinisterly, Hulk gives Iron Man the thumbs down.

In ‘Giant Size X-Men’ (1975) #1, Professor X reveals to Ororo that she is a mutant. AP Photo/Marvel Comics.

Before joining the X-Men, Ororo Munroe was worshipped as a rain/fertility goddess by local tribesmen in Kenya. When the original X-Men team was missing, Professor X assembled new members to rescue them. During the first meeting, Professor X revealed to Ororo that she was not a goddess, instead, she was a mutant. Really, he made her the offer to discover the real world and fight for the cause of mutants. Curiously, Ororo accepted.

STORM’S WEATHER POWERS ARE THE RESULT OF MUTATION

Correctly, Storm’s weather powers are the result of mutation. In fact, Storm is one of the powerful mutants on Earth. Furthermore, the X-Man has been classified as an Omega Level mutant. With training and experience under Professor X’s direction, Storm has grown in skill, power and leadership.

An instance that supports Professor X’s thesis is Feat: Black Panther, ‘Doomwar’ #1. Here, T’Challa proactively invented a cell that nullifies the X-gene. Effectively, Storm has no powers under such conditions. However, there is evidence that Storm’s powers are based on magic and witchcraft.

STORM’S ATMOKINESIS

Atmokinesis: Storm is one of the most powerful mutants on Earth and has demonstrated a plethora of abilities, most of which are facets of her power to manipulate the weather.[167] Storm possesses the psionic ability to control all forms of Weather Manipulation. She has been able to control both Earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems on several occasions. [Storm] can modify the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity and moisture (at a molecular level),[167] generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure. [Storm] can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes,[168] as well as mist. In ‘Marvel Tarot’ (2007) #1, we find out about Storm’s line of ancestry. In reality, Ororo Munroe descends from a line of witches. All of them, have distinctive white hair, blue eyes and the potential to wield magic. We can formulate two theories to explain Storm’s super powers.

First, Storm’s super powers showcase magical potential and properly unite science and magic. Here, the evidence that supports our hypothesis is the fact that Storm derives power from faith. In Wakanda, she is properly worshipped as a Goddess of the Storm. Furthermore, Black Panther, her former husband and King, considered her a goddess.

Second, Storm’s super powers are both divine and genetic. As Goddess of the Storm, she can hear and grant prayers. At the same time, her godhood is both the result of religion and magical inheritance. Indeed, Storm has both white hair and blue eyes. Therefore, these phenotypes presuppose a genetic basis. In addition, there is evidence that her powers are based on the X-gene. In conclusion, this may provide a rare case in the Marvel Universe where magical potential has a genetic basis. Moreover, it is possible that the X-gene is itself recessive.

ORIGIN STORY

Ororo Munroe is the child of American photojournalist David Munroe and the Kenyan princess N’Dare. She comes from a line of African priestesses that have white hair, blue eyes and the power to use magic.1

Ororo was orphaned at the age of five, as her parents died in a plane crash in Cairo, Egypt. Though she survived from the accident, she developed a deep claustrophobia from being buried in the rubble. She was raised by a gang of thieves led by Achmed El Gibar. Ororo became a thief and once attempted to steal from Professor Xavier. At age 12, she decided to journey South. She accepted a ride from a stranger and was nearly raped by him. She managed to kill the man though she swore never to another human life.2

After nearly dying in the Saharan Desert, she saved T’Challa using her weather powers. The two shared romance though it was ended.3,4 Ororo finally reached her ancestors’ homeland on the Kilimanjaro Valley in Kenya. She was taken in by a tribal woman Ainet who taught her the use of her powers. Soon, Ororo became worshipped by the tribes as a goddess.5

ORORO JOINS THE X-MEN

Years later, Ororo helped the X-Men, battle a mutant known as Deluge that used Ororo’s control of weather to destroy humanity. Afterwards, she returned to her tribe.6

Months later, however, Professor Xavier was left with no choice but to recruit Storm, as he called her, and other mutants from around the world into the X-Men in order to rescue his original students from the threat of the sentient island being, known as Krakoa. Prof. Xavier explained to Ororo that she was not a “goddess”, but a mutant and had a responsibility to use her abilities to help the world, just as she had helped the local tribes. Curious, Ororo accepted Professor Xavier’s offer and was given the code name “Storm”.

IN ADVANCED WARFARE

BLACK PANTHER, SHURI AND THE DORA MILAJE ARE FUGITIVES FROM THE DESTURI COUP IN WAKANDA

In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #1, T’Challa and Shuri, the Black Panther, has lost his royal title and is a fugitive from Wakanda. The Desturi have seized Wakanda’s government and have sentenced the Queen, Storm of the X-Men, to death. T’Challa has fled Wakanda to seek help from the mutant nation of Utopia.

In Utopia, T’Challa arrives with Shuri and the Dora Milaje to explain the circumstances of recent events. In the past year, T’Challa had been tracking rumors of a dissident group called the Desturi. They are a fundamentalist and xenophobic group that had infiltrated all levels of government.

In 'Doomwar' (2010) #1, T'Challa briefs the X-Men on the Desturi coup d'etat in Wakanda and Doctor Doom its mastermind.

T’Challa found they had access to surveillance but had no leads. Until he was lured into a trap by the mastermind of the coup d’etat, Doctor Doom, who nearly killed him. Later, T’Challa found Doom had infiltrated the palace food and water supplies with nanites swarms. Fearing that everyone he cared for could have been turned into living spy cameras, T’Challa fled Wakanda with Shuri and the Dora Milaje.

White Queen questions about Doctor Doom’s purpose of the revolution. T’Challa responds that its purpose is to obtain the Vibranium supply of Wakanda to upgrade his armor and become the most powerful force on Earth. Cyclops as Head of Utopia, cannot sanction an open war with Wakanda. However, some X-Men willingly volunteer.

DURING T’CHALLA’S AND THE X-MEN’S ATTACK ON WAKANDA, DOCTOR DOOM STEALS ALL OF WAKANDA’S VIBRANIUM

In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #2, T’Challa and his army attack Wakanda. Wakanda is the most advanced nation on Earth. T’Challa’s army arrive on Wakandan soil and are greeted by the army and the head of the Desturi. Asking the Desturi government to surrender, T’Challa and his army declare themselves to be Wakanda. Suddenly, Nightcrawler teleports T’Challa and Black Panther into the Palace. Despite Nightcrawler’s opposition, Black Panther massacres the people in the Palace.

At the Wakandan border, the X-Men and the Dora Milaje take on the Wakandan army. Back at the Palace, Doctor Doom has given Storm a 10 minute ultimatum to lock-pick the Vibranium Vault otherwise, he will shoot the members of the Royal Family. Nightcrawler attempts to teleport T’Challa to the Vibranium Vault with no success since Doctor Doom has placed a mystical barrier. T’Challa needs the Dora Milaje to hold the Wakandan army for one hour so he can massacre the hundreds of guards at the Royal Palace in order to reach the Vibranium Vault.

In 'Doomwar' (2010) #2, Queen Ororo attempts to lock-pick the Vibranium Vault as Doctor Doom holds T'Challa's mother at gunpoint.

T’Challa arrives at the Vibranium Vault and finds Queen Ororo bound in fetters by Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom gives T’Challa five seconds to give him the key to the final lock or else he will kill Storm. He has to choose between saving the Vibranium and saving Storm. T’Challa does not hesitate and decides to protect the Vibranium.

The countdown ends and Doctor Doom relishing the game, does not kill Ororo. Doom teleports in a flash of lightning. Entering the Vault, T’Challa finds out that all of the Vibranium is gone. Checkmate!

DOCTOR DOOM IS A MEGALOMANIAC WHOSE UNIQUE VISION OF THE FUTURE FOR WORLD PEACE IS DOOMWORLD

In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #3, Doctor Doom wages his “Doomwar” using Vibranium. In order to unlock the final lock, Doctor Doom had to face Bast, God of Egypt and Panther God of Wakanda. Bast scrutinizes Doctor Doom’s spi; and asks him his motivations for taking Vibranium. The test is purity and if Doctor Doom lies, Bast will devour him.

Doctor Doom tells Bast that though his methods are cruel and villainous, he has purity of intention. Doctor Doom claims mankind is a predator species and that according to his purity, he is a saint. He has gazed into thousand futures, a hundred thousand futures and found that the only future where humanity survives extinction and is at peace is under Doctor Doom‘s rule on Doomworld. Bast, though he finds Doctor Doom’s methods abhorrent, passes Doctor Doom and let’s him have the Vibranium.

THE DOOMWAR BEGINS WITH CASUALTIES ON ALL SIDES

In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #4, the “Doomwar” over Vibranium begins on a global scale. T’Challa has recruited the Fantastic Four to assist him. Using Vibranium trackers, T’Challa has tracked locations of Vibranium supply at Doombases over the world. Shuri, the Dora Milaje, Invisible Woman, Thing, Human Torch and the X-Men are on the frontlines. When they arrive at the first Doombase, they are unable to destroy the Vibranium-enhanced Doombots. Then, arming themselves with Vibranium-enhanced armors and weapons, T’Challa’s army begins to take down Doombots.

However, there are enormous casualties on both sides. In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #5, T’Challa and his army suffer great casualties with one third of the Dora Milaje having fallen. However, they have managed to take down only eight percent of the Doombases. T’Challa recognizes that Doom has learnt everything about Vibranium technology and his people is facing extinction. In order to eliminate the threat, he turns to shadow physics. T’Challa invented the discipline to unite quantum science with alchemy. T’Challa’s plan is to send Deadpool and the Midnight Angels to Latveria in order to assassinate Doctor Doom.

Later, Shuri’s team has located one of Doom’s computers. Hacking into the system, they divert all his funding to humanitarian causes.

The Broker who has been running the Doomwar, realizes this and fears Doom will kill him.

IN SYMKARIA, T’CHALLA FINALLY OUTSMARTS DOOM WITH SHADOW PHYSICS BY USING A TRIGGER THAT RENDERS ALL PROCESSED VIBRANIUM INERT

In ‘Doomwar’ (2010) #6, T’Challa finally outsmarts Doctor Doom by rendering all processed Vibranium inert. In a communication with Black Panther, T’Challa informs her that he has sanction a shadow attack of Latveria by the Midnight Angels which cannot be traced. She does not approve T’Challa bypassing her authority and reminds him that Wakanda does not start wars. Doctor Doom’s armor upgrade is finally online and he is able to sense and to tap all the Vibranium which is present everywhere on Earth.

T’Challa is in communication with other scientific and mystical leaders on Earth: Beast, Hank Pym, Tony Stark, Charles Xavier, Doctor Strange and Doctor Voodoo. They inform T’Challa that all Vibranium objects on Earth have come to life. Since the act leads back to Wakanda, and the threat of a nuclear war looms, they refuse to help T’Challa. Deadpool and the Midnight Angels attack in Latveria but they are no match for Doom. In diplomatic mission to Symkaria, Shuri invites Doctor Doom to come face T’Challa’s army to settle the matter.

The final battle begins. T’Challa’s army is overwhelmed by Doom’s army. During the battle, T’Challa is seemingly defeated by Victor. However, T’Challa finally outsmarts Doctor Doom. He activates a trigger that uses shadow physics to render all the processed Vibranium on Earth inert.

Shuri who had wanted to kill Doom, relents. She promises that she will hunt over the Earth and kill him if he steps foot on Wakandan soil. In the end, Black Panther and Storm watch as the superhero community helps them re-build Wakanda.

Marvel Day: In “Enter The Phoenix”, The Thunder God Attempts To End Gladiatorial Combat But Becomes The Son Of A Monster With A Devastating Origin Story

MARVEL DAY

ORIGIN STORIES

THE PHOENIX SHOWS SUPERHEROES’ AND SUPERVILLAINS’ FIGHTS ARE GLADIATORIAL COMBAT

In Avengers’ (2021) #40, Phoenix seeking a host causes gladiatorial combat among superheroes on Earth. The Avengers have located Phoenix rising out of the arctic ice on a volcanic island. Apparently, Phoenix was called to Earth by Namor who seeks to marry her. In fact, the Phoenix has summoned heroes and villains in order to fight each other to claim her as host. “Enter the Phoenix” shows superheroes’ fights are reminiscient of ancient gladiatorial combat.

We begin the first gladiator combat between Captain America and Doctor Doom. The battle is vicious and Doom ultimately gains the upper hand. Doom manages to kill Captain America twice with cosmic blasts, however, aided by the Phoenix, Captain America rises from the ashes to continue fighting. Noticing this as the Phoenix’s testament to Captain America’s valor, Doctor Doom forfeits the battle. Captain America is then transported by Phoenix to the White Hot Room where the other combatants wait their turn.

BLACK PANTHER HAS TO DECIDE TO END THE PHOENIX’S CONTEST

In ‘Avengers’ (2021) #41, the Phoenix continues its gladiatorial combats by selecting combatants from the White Hot Room. We have the following matches: Black Panther vs Man-Thing. Luke Cage vs American Eagle. Shanna The She-Devil vs Moon Girl. Valkyrie (Jane Foster) vs Orb. Hyperion vs Shang-Chi. Red Widow vs Howard The Duck. Black Panther vs Nighthawk. Maya Lopez vs Namor.

In the White Hot Room, the Phoenix speaks to Black Panther in aparte. She tells him to end the contest. Phoenix tells him she knew the old Panther king who fought with glowing rocks but who could end gods. Black Panther promises to end the contest no matter the cost. Phoenix says she wants T’Challa and that she will burn Wakanda’s name across the stars if he agress. Otherwise, she will burn it to ashes. Black Panther refuses and asks Phoenix to become benevolent. Otherwise, he will show Phoenix how he deals with a blizzard.

IN A NEW ORIGIN STORY WITH PHOENIX, THOR BECOMES THE SON OF A MONSTER

In ‘Avengers’ (2021) #42, the Avengers attempt to end Phoenix’s gladiatorial combat. Outside the White Hot Room, on the volcanic island, the Avengers are attempting to contain the Phoenix. The Avengers battle the Phoenix in order to keep her contained in the volcanic island. As the Phoenix is freed, Thor reflects on the link he has shared with the Phoenix time and again. He feels some form of love. She tells him, he is her son. This is the new origin story of Thor and effectively makes him the son of a monster. In ‘Avengers’ (2021) #43, Thor battles his way against Phoenix through his new origin story. The Phoenix finally escapes the volcanic island.

Thor does not believe the lie and tells her Gaia is her mother. He throws his hammer at the Phoenix Force which phases through her. Then, Phoenix Force explains that the lie was necessary for Thor to protect the Earth. She tells the Thunder God is a child of Fire and Thunder. The Avengers are worried about Thor but Iron Man tells Okoye to delay the Wakandan Helicarriers. The Phoenix Force tells Thor, Gaia kept her trapped inside Earth for thousands of years. However, when the final host came, she was free. And now, she remembers Thor. Thor battles Phoenix Force but she soon gains the upper hand. Elsewhere, Captain America is about to face Black Panther in gladiatorial combat.
