In  Fantastic Four (1984) #268, titled “The Masque of Doom!”, She-Hulk performs a super strength feat. At the Baxter Building, the Human Torch gives new FF member She-Hulk a tour. In the trophy room, an external signal activates the mask of Doctor Doom. During the battle, She-Hulk successfully pushes against the force field the mask creates.

How much super strength does it take for She-Hulk to push against the mask of Doom’s invisible force field with “the strength of a million jackhammers”1?

She-Hulk pushed against the mask of Doom’s force field. We will use the shear strength of a jackhamer to estimate She-Hulk’s super strength.

NUMBER CRUNCHING


According to IndiaMART, the air pressure of a jackhammer is 100-120 psi. In order to remove the force field, She-Hulk had to exert a force equal to a million jackhammers. Let’s calculate the shear strength of a million jackhammers.

Shear Strength = (100 psi)(10^6) = 10^8 psi = 689475729318 N/m2.

Let’s calculate the force over a surface area of 1 m radius.

Force = (689475729318 N/m2 )(1*1*pi m2) = 2.1660519e+12 Newtons.

SUPER-STRENGTH

She-Hulk generated 2.1660519e+12 Newtons of force in order to remove the force field created by Doctor Doom’s mask. In order to remove the force field, She-Hulk had to generate a Multi-Planetary Level of Super-Strength.
