WHAT ARE THE MCU AND DCU?

In 2019, the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended Phase Three movies with Avengers: Endgame. Since the end of the Infinity Saga, the MCU has suffered poor reviews and poor box office performance except for Spider-Man: No Way Home (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). With The Marvels in theater this week, the MCU continues its box office woes.

In contrast, the DC Universe was rebooted this year with The Flash Movie. And with Blue Beetle, the two entries in the DCU have produced the lowest box office for DC movies.

Let’s list reasons why superhero fatigue at the movies may actually reflect trends in the comic industry.
