CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, Doomsday Clock (Issue #1 -Cover B by Gary Frank) is the first appearance of Rorschach II, the second Rorschach. Though suffering from mental illness, Ozymandias tasks him with finding Doctor Manhattan to cure his brain cancer.

Really, the comic is prophetic for the War in Ukraine: After Doctor Manhattan’s disappearance, nuclear threats have escalated and Russia invades Poland. Finally, the comic joins the story elements of DC Rebirth such as themes of darkness and cynicism with the Watchmen’s political intrigue.

The comic is good for your DC Rebirth collection. You will definitely love Gary Frank’s illustrations, Geoff Johns’s poignant writing, and the colorful scenes.

This product has 64 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.6 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “Interesting stuff, won’t get into spoilers but I will say the art is fantastic and the writing is great. It was a fun read and I can’t wait to check out how this story unfolds. Oh as there’s this character called the Mime, already a fan favorite lol.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There are 2 negative global ratings. One negative review commented on the controversial sequel: “As one of those who actually understood Watchmen when I read it. FYI There is no team called Watchmen anywhere in Alan Moore’s book. The characters from that and from the DC Universe have no need to meet.

They have nothing in common. What Alan did was return to the pulp magazine origins of the super hero myth…The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Avenger (The original Paul Ernst/Lester Dent creation whose name was Richard Benson) and take them along a slightly different path. He has said so more than once.”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Talented team of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank.
  • Kindle & Comixology formats available.
  • DC Rebirth story.
  • Nine-panel grid.
  • Prophetic comic reflected in current events.

NEGATIVE:

  • Controversial sequel.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this DC Rebirth comic as Geoff Johns’ prophetic masterpiece on the DC Universe and current events.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

#WEOPPOSEBLACKADAM AND ASYLUM FOR CRIMINALS

In Doomsday Clock, Prime Earth is divided by the Supermen Theory. In fact, 97 percent of metahumans on Earth are of American nationality. According to the theory, their existence is due to a superhuman arms race between governments. As a result, many nations have created their own superhuman teams. Notably, Russia has created the “People’s Heroes.” Indeed, their objective is to defend against “America’s manufactured metahumans.”1 Furthermore, the Justice Leaguer Firestorm has been angered at his purported links to the theory.

In Doomsday Clock (2018) #5, Black Adam makes a public announcement. As Batman intercepts Adrian Veidt in the Owlship, the police pursue in the air. In fact, Veidt is wanted for the purported assassination attempt on Lex Luthor. As the Owlship hurtles down after being hit, Batman watches the Black Adam report. Sinisterly, the former JSAer invites all persecuted metahumans to Kandhaq for asylum. Though a welcome gesture, we suspect it was to build Kandhaq’s own metahuman criminal army. Hence, #WeOpposeBlackAdam and asylum for criminals.

AGAINST BLACK ADAM: HE HARBORED KNOWN SUPERVILLAINS AND VIOLATED THE AGREEMENT AMONG NATIONS

In Doomsday Clock (2019) #8, Firestorm accidentally commits terror. Illegally, Firestorm enters Russia’s airspace to clear his name. When the “People’s Heroes” confront him, Ronnie accidentally turns civilians into glass. Then, he escapes. In Metropolis, Clark and Lois watch the news report. Immediately, Clark changes into Superman and heads for Kandhaq.

There, he greets Black Adam and is in search of Firestorm. Quickly, he notices the Creeper and Giganta. Clearly, Black Adam is harboring known supervillains. Sternly, Superman scolds the head of state for his breach. Specifically, it is the agreeent for metahumans to not cross any nations’ borders without sanction. In addition, Black Adam metes out justice without due process. For his part, Superman is the only hero authorized to cross nations’ borders.

FOR BLACK ADAM: HE OFFERED ASYLUM TO SLAVES ON KANDHAQ

In Doomsday Clock (2019) #8, Black Adam reveals he is also harboring slaves he freed. Among them, is a youg boy named Nabil Azmah. As a metahuman, his codename is Sandstorm. With his sand powers, the Syrian boy frees children slaves in Syria.

Though, Black Adam is not really a humanitarian nor activist. As a head of state, he defends the Supermen Theory. In fact, he claims some metahumans in Kandhaq were part of it. Certainly, he plans to raise his own metahuman army.

DC Day: We Co-Sign ‘DC Universe: Rebirth’ #1 As The Bright Revamp That Injects Hope Into The DC Universe

In 'DC Universe: Rebirth,' Barry Allen recognizes Wally West.

DC DAY

IN READING GUIDES, LISTS, REVIEWS

THE NEW 52 WAS UNPOPULAR

In 2011, the DC Universe was rebooted with the events of Flashpoint. In an attempt to save his mother from death, Flash ended creating an alternate timeline changing from New Earth to Prime Earth. The multiverse became an important aspect with Prime Earth at its center.

The new DC Universe resulted in the rebooting of the many popular series in DC such as ‘Action Comics,’ the end of the Superman-Lois marriage and the budding relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman, the loss of the traditional families and legacy in DC since Wally West was absent, the shake-up in the founding of the Justice League and in general the loss of heart and hope in story-telling.

One of the biggest issues fans had with the reboot was that it seemingly erased classic characters from the picture. Undoubtedly the most high profile absence was Wally West, who had taken on the role of the Flash for over a decade, and was arguably the version of the character audiences were most familiar with, owing to his presence on the long-loved Justice League animated series.

And yet, the character went completely missing during the reboot, along with other heroes, like the Question (no, the version we got most definitely isn’t Vic Sage), Cassandra Cain, and a whole host of other classic characters – all wiped in the name of keeping things simple. Which is awful, if we’re being honest.

THE PREMISE OF ‘DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH’ #1

The premise of ‘DC Universe: Rebirth’ #1, is the dramatic re-appearance of hope, under the form of Wally West. The one-shot argues that the characters are not themselves and it is up to Flash to help them remember who they are. The plot of the comic is Wally West, the Flash, trapped into the Speed Force and attempting to contact someone in order to return Prime Earth otherwise he will vanish forever.

Flash first attempts to contact Batman but Batman fails to recognize him. Then, Flash attempts to contact John Thunder and asks him to contact the Justice Society. Wally West tries to contact Linda Park and return to the DC Universe. However, his attempt fails and he vanishes further. Finally, Wally reaches out to Barry Allen to say goodbye. However, Barry remembers him and pulls him out of the Speed Force before he vanishes forever. Hope has returned to the DC Universe!

WE CO-SIGN ‘DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH’ #1, AS THE RE-EMERGENCE OF HOPE IN THE DC UNIVERSE

Wally West serves as the character that corrects the Post-Flashpoint DC Universe. Barry and Wally exchange a hug and Barry laments the fact he had forgotten Wally. Then Barry remembers Wally’s life and becoming the Flash. Wally tells Barry about Flashpoint. He tells Barry Flashpoint was not Barry’s fault.

Wally mentions a mysterious force that took ten years of their lives, changing families, legacies. The new battle is between “hope and despair” with a force even more powerful than Darkseid. The storyline thread continues in the “Watchmen” sequel called ‘Doomsday Clock’. The sequel reveals Doctor Manhattan as its villain.
