HULK AND THING ARE MARVEL’S TWO STRONGEST MONSTERS
In 1962, Marvel comics features its historic first crossover between its characters. In Fantastic Four (1962) #12, the Hulk meets Thing and the Fantastic Four for the first time! In a clash of titans, Thing and Hulk battle to save Rick Jones who was kidnapped by the Wrecker.
In fact, since the 1960s, Thing and Hulk have been rivals and celebrated as equals. However, the Hulk-Thing rivalry changed over time, when it became clear that Hulk is a force of nature that dominates most fights, but Thing has a brave heart that will not back down.
Though in the 1980s, mutations in Thing’s abilities and the transformation into Grey Hulk favored Thing. In Fantastic Four (1988) #320, Doctor Doom manipulates the two monsters into fighting against each other. Incredibly, Thing defeats Hulk.
Let’s look at how Thing’s and Hulk’s super strengths match against each other across various media.
Perhaps, the best Hulk moment of Season 1 was Hulk’s Day Out. In the episode, Hulk crashes to Earth with a message of doom. Importantly, Hulk has a memory loss and the Avengers must reconstruct his last 24 hours.
In a brief fight, it appears both fighters in the strength and durability departments are evenly matched. Really, their strength is so evenly matched that they lock arms and Captain America must use his shield to separate them.
Particularly, episode 4 featured a powerful battle between the Fantastic Four and the Hulk. True to the comics, Thing appeared as the more skilled fighter though Hulk showed superior brute force.
Initially, both fighters are matched. However, Hulk actually becomes more savage by smashing Thing with cars and finally stomping him with Thing lifting a car above his head. At the same time, Invisible Woman and Human Torch have to step in in order to help.
In the end, with a trick taken from the comic, Mister Fantastic defeats Hulk with an ultrasonic device that reverts him to Bruce Banner.

Perhaps, one of its least celebrated moments is the London Eye scene towards the beginning of the movie. Early on, Mister Fantastic is able to calculate the Silver Surfer‘s next cosmic phenomenon on Earth. Then, the Fantastic Four are off to London.
When a crater forms in the River Cruise, London is threatened and the FF must save the London Eye: While Thing supports the London Eye, Invisible Woman prevents people from falling and Mister Fantastic anchors it.
Importantly, the London Eye weighs 2100 tons. Over nine feet in the air, Thing generated 185409000 Joules of potential energy, for a City-Block Level feat.
FILM: HULK CAN STOP THE LEVIATHAN WITH A PUNCH
Really, Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) sports some of the best cinematic action. Perhaps, the movie is the best superhero movie of all-time. And it is well deserved.
In the final battle, the Avengers finally assemble in order to face Loki and the Chitauri invasion in New York City. When the situation seems hopeless, Hulk saves the day!
Certainly, Hulk’s Leviathan Punch is one of the greatest cinematic moments. In order to stop the three million tons monster travelling at the speed of sound, Bruce Banner changes into the Hulk instantly delivering a titanic punch that stops the monster in its tracks. Then, Iron Man blows it with a missile.
With 1.764735*1014 Watts of power, a Mountain-Level of Super Strength.
For the most part, Hulk has gone through different incarnations over the comic book ages. During the Bronze Age, Hulk was in top form. Though his power regularly fluctuated, the Jade Giant seemed to have higher peaks.
In the Marvel multiverse, the Avengers are the premiere superhero-team. In battles to defend Earth and the universe against villains, tyrants, and conquerors, two Avengers challenge each other for the title of Strongest Avenger. Indeed, the Thor-Hulk rivalry has been since the classic era and continues to this day. Hulk, is the Jade Giant with infinite strength and rage, and Thor is the Thunder God and protector of Earth.
Let’s list five reasons why Hulk’s monstrous strength makes him the Strongest Avenger and five reasons why Thor’s godly power contends for the Strongest Avenger.
10. THOR MATCHED HULK IN AN HOUR TEST OF STRENGTH
In Defenders (1973) #10, Doctor Strange guides Hulk to Los Angeles where he finds the missing part of the Evil Eye. At that time, Thor also arrives looking for the Evil Eye. When the God of Thunder asks to speak to the Jade Giant, Hulk is dismissive. Violently, a brawl follows between the warriors. During the battle, their power is so fierce that the city is threatened. Incredibly, both combatants lock arms for one hour in a test of strength. Finally, Doctor Strange, the Defenders and Avengers arrive to separate them. In the end, the heroes realize that a greater force, namely Dormammu, is involved in the events.
9. IT TOOK HULK AND NAMOR TO FIGHT CLASSIC THOR
In Avengers (1964) #3, Hulk and Namor team-up against the Avengers. When the Avengers decide to find the Hulk, they contact Rick Jones. With his help, they locate him in the desert. After a battle, he escapes and teams-up with Sub-Mariner. At the Rock of Gibraltar, the final battle occurs. During the fight, Namor and Hulk can barely hold on to the mighty Thor. In the end, the enemies flee with the Avengers victorious.
8. IN MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, THOR HAS MATCHED HULK WITHOUT HIS HAMMER
InMarvel’s The Avengers (2012), Nick Fury activates the Avengers Initiative to recruit exceptional people into the peace-keeping team called the Avengers. With the Tesseract, Loki signals a Chitauri invasion in New York City. Before the invasion, Thor battles Hulk on the Helicarrier, matching the behemoth without his hammer! In Thor (1987) #385, Thor must stop Hulk’s rampage in a forest near the Mississippi River. When Hulk holds a woman hostage, Thor is forced to fight without his hammer. Though at a disadvantage, he holds his own.
7. HULK HAS LIFTED THOR’S HAMMER
In Hulk: Let The Battle Begin (2010) #1, Bruce Banner awakens in the middle of the desert. There, he find a ride from a man driving a truck who drops him off to a nearby town. In between naps, Bruce has been having trouble with his memories. In his naps, he recalls the events of the previous day. Near Mount Rushmore, he recalls lifting Thor’s hammer and bludgeoning the Odinson with it till he is knocked out. Really, an impressive feat!

6. IN MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, THOR DREW WITH HULK
In Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Thor’s superior fighting skills, equal strength and powerful hammer drew the battle against Hulk. In Thor: Ragnarok (2012), though Hulk won, he had help from the Grandmaster.
5. IN THE HULK VS. ANIMATED FILM, THE JADE GIANT NEARLY KILLED THOR
InHulk Vs. (2009), Hulk fights Wolverine in the first movie and Thor in the second movie. The events in the movie follow after or during Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In Hulk Vs. Thor, the soulless body of Hulk has been unleashed on Asgard by Loki and Amora. In a brutal battle, Hulk pummels Thor to the ground. When Hulk is about to land the killing blow, he sees the light of Odinsleep and heads for the palace. Believing himself dead, Thor sees a shadow thinking it is Hela, but it is Amora.
4. IN THOR: RAGNAROK, HULK FOUGHT FENRIS AND SURTUR
In Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Thor, Hulk and Valkyrie must stop Hela, Surtur and her demons from destroying Asgard. In the final battle, Thor battles Hela while Hulk battles the ferocious Fenris then attacks Surtur, a giant extra-dimensional demon. With the power to destroy Asgard, Surtur finds a match in Hulk who can shake a dimension!
3. IN AVENGERS: ENDGAME, THOR KILLED A WOUNDED THANOS
In Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Avengers are recovering from the Thanos Snap. When the Avengers regroup, they set out for Titan to undo the damages. There, they find a wounded Thanos. Unfortunately, Thanos reveals that they cannot undo the Snap since he destroyed the Infinity Stones. In a fit of anger, Thor decapitates Thanos with Stormbreaker.
2. HERALD OF THUNDER THOR KILLS GALACTUS AND THE BLACK WINTER
In Thor: The Devourer King (2020), Thor becomes a Herald of Thunder for Galactus. In order to fight the Black Winter, Thor helps the Star God consume five planets. However, when he realizes he has been duped, he kills Galactus and uses his corpse as a bomb to explode the Black Winter. Certainly, do not miss Thor using the God Blast against the Black Winter!
1. IMMORTAL HULK DISSIPATED THE ONE-BELOW-ALL WITH HIS THUNDERCLAP
Really, Hulk is the strongest Avenger. In Immortal Hulk (2019) #13, Hulk is in Hell with his father. There, he must fight the One Below All and his horde of demons. During the battle, his father disowns him as a child of evil. When all seems lost, Immortal Hulk hulks-out and delivers a powerful thunderclap that dissipates the One Below All. In the Marvel multiverse, The One Above All is supreme, and at the bottom of the multiverse, the One Below All reigns. Proving once again that the Strongest Avenger can defeat the ultimate evil.
Perhaps, the most entertaining question in all of comicdom: How do #LosPoderesdeWolverine work? Though there have been few explanations for Wolverine’s uncanny super powers, the general idea is that they are due to mutations in the X-gene.
When Wolverine first appeared in Incredible Hulk (1974) #180, he debuted with a cameo and a bang. To begin, Hulk was on a rampage on the Canadian border and the Canadian Air Force deployed their secret weapon: Weapon X!
During a clash between Hulk and Wendigo in the forest, a third player makes his surprise appearance. Originally known as Weapon X, we later learn his name is… Wolverine. In the following issue, we learn of the foe’s ferocity and brutality, a match for Hulk and perhaps, #TheMostPowerfulHero.
WOLVERINE IS A HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRID
During the 1960s, James Howlett (his real name) was enrolled in the Canadian Weapon X program. With his archnemesis Sabretooth, Silver Fox, Maverick, Kestrel and Mastodon they formed Team X. Weapon X was started in order to combat the mutant menace.
Early on, it was found that Wolverine’s unique genetic signature made him a mutant. In fact, his enhanced physiology, claws, senses, speed and strength added to his ferocity. After Wolverine becomes Weapon X, his skeleton is laced with indestructible Adamantium making him nearly invincible.
Particularly, with his enhanced physiology, retractable claws and animal senses it is clear that Wolverine’s evolution displays a hybridization of human DNA and animal DNA granting him various attributes.
For instance, Wolverine is at least as strong as a gorilla. Indeed, he is able to lift an elevator with two human occupants in it, weighing at minimum 2100 pounds or 454 kilograms. At a base level, Wolverine has Peak Human-Level of Super-Strength.
Since Wolverine is a mutant, we theorize that his unique abilities are each endowed from a different animal hybrid DNA, making Wolverine hypothetically able to transcribe and translate part of his junk DNA.
HOW WOLVERINE’S POWERS WORK
WHY WOLVERINE IS A GRIZZLY BEAR
1. WOLVERINE IS STRONGER THAN TEN GRIZZLY BEARS
Wolverine breaks the hardest steel chains. Marvel Comics.
In one issue, Wolverine is imprisoned by Mesmero in a circus lot. With Wolverine and the X-Men shackled, Logan’s survival instincts rise. Summoning his ferocious super-strength, Wolverine buckles one steel chain. Then, in one overwhelming effort, he destroys the chains.
According to Lifting Safety, a Grade 8/80 with chain size 7mm to 32mm has a mean stress of 800 newtons per squared milliiters. When we calculate, we assume the chains are hollow spheres of 50 millimiters and 30 millimiters outer radius and inner radius respectively.
With over 84446010.5285 Newtons of shear stress, Wolverine is able to exert more than 11000 pounds per square inch of pressure. In comparison, he is stronger than more than 15 grizzly bear that can exert 783 pounds per square inch of swipe force.
Certainly, the genetic composition of Wolverine’s DNA remains unknown. At the same time, it is possible that his evolution is both the product of mutation and genetic drift.
Particularly, with genetic combinations, Wolverine’s genome has inherited rare alleles from distant ancestors. Perhaps, transcribing and translating noncoding genes inherited from prior speciating events.

Certainly, the hype factor about Wolverine is the defining feature of the anti-hero: his foot-long adamantium-laced claws! Let’s talk about why Wolverine may have inherited DNA from a distant prehistoric feline.
Currently, the candidate family of species that possesses retractable claws are the family of felines. These include the big cats like the tiger, the lion, the jaguar or the leopard. Particularly, their claws extend when they contract their paws and retract passively.
Certainly, claws are weapons and indicate predation like hunting, killing and feeding. Though Wolverine may or may not be a predator, he certainly has inherited a predator’s ferocity and their blood lust.
Moreover, Wolverine’s Adamantium claws can slice practically through anything. And Joe Fixit’s skin is durable enough to withstand incendiary missiles. Per our calculations, that’s 6459831520 calories of energy!
In the X-Men movie, we learn about Wolverine’s remarkable abilities. Particularly, Logan’s mutation grants him a remarkable healing factor and an uncanny ability to regenerate limbs upon injury.
Although there are multiple animals that display this uncanny ability, it seems the closest ancestor to Wolverine’s genetic mutation is the alligator. Let’s explain.
In fact, other mammal species such as the Pliny mouse have demonstrated this ability. However, in Wolverine’s case, it is tied to his animalistic behavior and his violence. Certainly, the alligator is a choice because as an amphibian he is a close ancestor of vertebrates.
At the same time, it also explains Wolverine’s remarkable ferocity and berserker rage. Definitely, Wolverine is also an alligator, can survive 15 minutes without air and can swim.
Other super powers of Wolverine’s include his enhanced senses, his super speed and his mysterious healing factors. Though explanations are lacking, it is possible that they are all the results of the process of genetic hybridization. In the end, Wolverine is more animal than man.
In today’s article, we compare two fighters that are the cream of the crop in terms of strength, power, rage… and yes, fighting!
Incredibly, let’s introduce the battle to end all battles: Doomsday, the Ultimate vs The Incredible Hulk. Though these two monsters have yet to face in a crossover, fans have salivated at the thought of a vicious brawl.
Really, both are an A-list hero and a B-list villain in their respective universes. Namely, the legendary Doomsday is famous for being the monster who killed Superman. For his part, Hulk is the Strongest Avenger and only keeps getting stronger.
Though both monsters have evolved multiple forms, let’s compare their strength in terms of their strongest power levels. Hence, we compare Hunter/Prey (HP) Doomsday with Immortal Hulk (IMH).
Generally, formidability is the ability to compete, match and defeat a foe despite overwhelming odds. Usually, formidability indicates a warrior’s ability to defeat a stronger, more powerful and more resourceful enemy.
For this reason, it is almost interchangeable with the Fighting Skills Level. For example, this explains why Batman is able to defeat Killer Croc or Bane who are in fact stronger or more powerful.
Using tactics, training, technology, resources and intel, Batman is usually able to take on more powerful opponents.
Before we rank our two heroes, let’s list some rules.
First, the hero should be able to consistently defeat opponents above their strength class or power level.
In terms of power level or fighting skills, they should have few or no weaknesses.
Consistently, they should face quality opponents that are at least able to destroy a city.
Finally, they should have fewer limitations in power, strength, ability or intelligence.
First, we will compare them in Strength Class, Weaknesses, Quality Opponents and Limitations. At the top, you can check their Formidability Scores. To note, all scores are rated out of a 100.
When Doomsday comes back to life, he evolves an adaptation to Darkseid’s Omega Effect which can no longer harm him. And what we estimate to be a Universal-Level of Super-Strength. Theoretically, there is no upper limit to his Super-Strength.
On the other hand, Immortal Hulk, also has the novel power of Resurrection. In fact, he theoretically cannot die. Or in better words, he resurrects from every death. In the first issue, IMH resurrects from a gunshot wound to the head and finds he can smell lies.
In effect, IMH is immortal and can only be killed by the being who is the source of his power, the One-Below-All. Really, Immortal Hulk has Boundless Super-Strength since he can defeat Gods or Abstracts.
For the most part, Doomsday’s weakness is properly speaking Universal Forces. In the comic, Doomsday is felled by Darkseid’s Omega Effect. Because of the OE’s powers and its relation to the chaotic side of the Source, the Omega Effect is certainly a power of entropy.
Really, the only way to defeat H/P Doomsday is to subject him to the powers of entropy. At the end of the comic, Superman transports Doomsday to the end of the universe with Waverider’s help, ending his murderous rampage.
In some sense, Immortal Hulk is protected by a Divine Enchantment. As a host of the One-Below-All, who rules Hell, he comes back from every death. Though he can be wounded, pierced and even killed, he always resurrects. Effectively, his Weakness lasts as long as the Divine Enchantment.
Generally, though both warriors are evenly matched in strength, IMH may lack the specific power necessary to finally overcome H/P Doomsday’s onslaught. As Doomsday evolves, he may land the killing blow that severes his connection to the Green Door.
Generally, Immortal Hulk has a decisive advantage in this department. Over a more developed series, IMH faces multiple opponents such as Sasquatch, the Avengers and even the One-Below-All.
In Immortal Hulk Vol 1 13, Immortal Hulk faces the One-Below-All and his horde of monsters in Hell. Importantly, he has to deal with his father who disowns him as a child of evil. Decisively, Hulk swats him away dispersing at the same time, the One-Below-All.
In the Marvel hierarchy, the One-Above-All, is the God of the Marvel Multiverse. Oppositely, the One-Below-All is below and is unthinking monster that needs gamma-ray powered hosts in the Marvel multiverse.
Certainly, IMH’s Quality Opponents are God or Abstract-Level.
Certainly, it is one of the most valuable comics of all time. And really, we know why. Indeed, it is the historic first appearance of Wolverine in Marvel Comics.
Definitely, comic collectors should rave about this comic since it has aged well. Today, Wolverine has successfully been a part of the two X-Men film timelines and the X-Men are set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On our GCG Count, the story ranks 11th. On the Top 200, it holds a Record Sale of $40,800 and a Minimum Value of $90.
Definitely, Logan has a dedicated following beyond comics and is among Marvel’s most popular characters. In many ways, his value expresses an underrepresented culture that values anti-heroes and wildlife.
