When What If… released season 1, episode 1 premiered with great reception. As a critically-acclaimed series, the animation has adapted the comic. According to ScreenRant, What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger? is in Every What If Season 1 Episode Ranked Worst To Best.
To begin, Captain Carter receives the super-soldier serum instead of Steve. Story-wise, the plot centers on the evolution of the character and how it would lead to the Avengers. Namely, the conflict is over whether Captain Carter can end World War II.
In a sense, the animation is a modern adaptation of the Japanese Kaiju and addresses the mythology within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Certainly, Captain Carter has become central to the Multiverse Saga, even appearing in the live-action Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the time.
Definitely, this episode is quintessential What If… and belongs in your Marvel collection.

In episode 8, season 1 we may have the triumphant return of the Infinity Stones: Ultron claims ultimate power and claims the Infinity Gauntlet. Perhaps, one of the most fantastic episodes of the season 1, in terms of action and Multiverse Saga.
With the main timeline, the battle references multiple alternate realities. Story-wise, we learn about Ultron becoming aware of Uatu. Namely, that The Watcher’s narration of the multiverse protects their multiple timelines.
In some sense, the episode is relevant with the threat of AI, machines seizing ultimate power and causing catastrophe. And the Breaking The Fourth Wall power shows that it can be challenged by omnipotence.
Definitely, this episode is important for your Marvel collection and The Watcher plays a determinant role. Indeed, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe love the emphasis on destiny.

In many respects, episode 3 in season 1 takes chances at revisionism but is not well received by the critic. Certainly, it attempts to connect older Marvel movies to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the same time, the graphics are not very inspiring.
To sum, the heroes must solve a murder mystery involving members of the Avengers who are being killed. A welcome pause though the episode has little impact on the rest of the series.
On this list, this series is one of the worst What If… episodes.
