In the Marvel multiverse, the Avengers are the premiere superhero-team. In battles to defend Earth and the universe against villains, tyrants, and conquerors, two Avengers challenge each other for the title of Strongest Avenger. Indeed, the Thor-Hulk rivalry has been since the classic era and continues to this day. Hulk, is the Jade Giant with infinite strength and rage, and Thor is the Thunder God and protector of Earth.

Let’s list five reasons why Hulk’s monstrous strength makes him the Strongest Avenger and five reasons why Thor’s godly power contends for the Strongest Avenger.

10. THOR MATCHED HULK IN AN HOUR TEST OF STRENGTH

In Defenders (1973) #10, Doctor Strange guides Hulk to Los Angeles where he finds the missing part of the Evil Eye. At that time, Thor also arrives looking for the Evil Eye. When the God of Thunder asks to speak to the Jade Giant, Hulk is dismissive. Violently, a brawl follows between the warriors. During the battle, their power is so fierce that the city is threatened. Incredibly, both combatants lock arms for one hour in a test of strength. Finally, Doctor Strange, the Defenders and Avengers arrive to separate them. In the end, the heroes realize that a greater force, namely Dormammu, is involved in the events.

9. IT TOOK HULK AND NAMOR TO FIGHT CLASSIC THOR

In Avengers (1964) #3, Hulk and Namor team-up against the Avengers. When the Avengers decide to find the Hulk, they contact Rick Jones. With his help, they locate him in the desert. After a battle, he escapes and teams-up with Sub-Mariner. At the Rock of Gibraltar, the final battle occurs. During the fight, Namor and Hulk can barely hold on to the mighty Thor. In the end, the enemies flee with the Avengers victorious.

8. IN MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, THOR HAS MATCHED HULK WITHOUT HIS HAMMER

In Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Nick Fury activates the Avengers Initiative to recruit exceptional people into the peace-keeping team called the Avengers. With the Tesseract, Loki signals a Chitauri invasion in New York City. Before the invasion, Thor battles Hulk on the Helicarrier, matching the behemoth without his hammer! In Thor (1987) #385, Thor must stop Hulk’s rampage in a forest near the Mississippi River. When Hulk holds a woman hostage, Thor is forced to fight without his hammer. Though at a disadvantage, he holds his own.

7. HULK HAS LIFTED THOR’S HAMMER

In Hulk: Let The Battle Begin (2010) #1, Bruce Banner awakens in the middle of the desert. There, he find a ride from a man driving a truck who drops him off to a nearby town. In between naps, Bruce has been having trouble with his memories. In his naps, he recalls the events of the previous day. Near Mount Rushmore, he recalls lifting Thor’s hammer and bludgeoning the Odinson with it till he is knocked out. Really, an impressive feat!

6. IN MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, THOR DREW WITH HULK

In Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Thor’s superior fighting skills, equal strength and powerful hammer drew the battle against Hulk. In Thor: Ragnarok (2012), though Hulk won, he had help from the Grandmaster.

5. IN THE HULK VS. ANIMATED FILM, THE JADE GIANT NEARLY KILLED THOR

In Hulk Vs. (2009), Hulk fights Wolverine in the first movie and Thor in the second movie. The events in the movie follow after or during Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In Hulk Vs. Thor, the soulless body of Hulk has been unleashed on Asgard by Loki and Amora. In a brutal battle, Hulk pummels Thor to the ground. When Hulk is about to land the killing blow, he sees the light of Odinsleep and heads for the palace. Believing himself dead, Thor sees a shadow thinking it is Hela, but it is Amora.

4. IN THOR: RAGNAROK, HULK FOUGHT FENRIS AND SURTUR

In Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Thor, Hulk and Valkyrie must stop Hela, Surtur and her demons from destroying Asgard. In the final battle, Thor battles Hela while Hulk battles the ferocious Fenris then attacks Surtur, a giant extra-dimensional demon. With the power to destroy Asgard, Surtur finds a match in Hulk who can shake a dimension!

3. IN AVENGERS: ENDGAME, THOR KILLED A WOUNDED THANOS

In Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Avengers are recovering from the Thanos Snap. When the Avengers regroup, they set out for Titan to undo the damages. There, they find a wounded Thanos. Unfortunately, Thanos reveals that they cannot undo the Snap since he destroyed the Infinity Stones. In a fit of anger, Thor decapitates Thanos with Stormbreaker.

2. HERALD OF THUNDER THOR KILLS GALACTUS AND THE BLACK WINTER

In Thor: The Devourer King (2020), Thor becomes a Herald of Thunder for Galactus. In order to fight the Black Winter, Thor helps the Star God consume five planets. However, when he realizes he has been duped, he kills Galactus and uses his corpse as a bomb to explode the Black Winter. Certainly, do not miss Thor using the God Blast against the Black Winter!

1. IMMORTAL HULK DISSIPATED THE ONE-BELOW-ALL WITH HIS THUNDERCLAP

Really, Hulk is the strongest Avenger. In Immortal Hulk (2019) #13, Hulk is in Hell with his father. There, he must fight the One Below All and his horde of demons. During the battle, his father disowns him as a child of evil. When all seems lost, Immortal Hulk hulks-out and delivers a powerful thunderclap that dissipates the One Below All. In the Marvel multiverse, The One Above All is supreme, and at the bottom of the multiverse, the One Below All reigns. Proving once again that the Strongest Avenger can defeat the ultimate evil.

Horror has a name. You’d never notice the man. He doesn’t like to be noticed. He’s quiet. Calm. If someone were to shoot him in the head…all he’d do is die. Until night falls — and someone else gets up again. The man’s name is Banner. The horror is the Immortal Hulk! And trouble has a way of following them both. As reporter Jackie McGee tries to put together the pieces, Banner treads a lonely path from town to town, finding murder, mystery and tragedy as he goes. And what Banner finds, the Hulk smashes! Elsewhere, the hero called Sasquatch can’t help but feel involved. In many ways, he’s Banner’s equal — and his opposite. Sasquatch is about to risk his life by looking for the man — and finding the monster!

Critically, Immortal Hulk Vol. 1: Or Is He Both? (Immortal Hulk (2018-2021)) is the best Hulk story arc in recent memory. In fact, it tells of Hulk’s resurrection after Bruce Banner’s brutal death and his new-found immortality.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, Immortal Hulk Vol. 1: Or Is He Both? (Immortal Hulk (2018-2021)) is Immortal Hulk’s great debut in the Fresh Start. When Hulk is shot by a gunman at a gas station, he rises from the dead in the morgue. In a macabre twist, he hunts down the killer and his gang.

Really, the comic showcases the horror genre with skill. Perhaps, the truest incarnation of the hero with respect with his first appearance in Incredible Hulk (1962-1999) #1. In fact, a story arc that adapts classic Hulk mythos such as Jackie McGee and the gamma-irradiated humans.

The comic is good for your Hulk collection. You will definitely love the pencils, the level of detail and the multiple deaths.

This product has 847 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.7 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “Simply amazing! Or is that incredible? The writer really gets the classic horror feel to the early Hulk stories and does a great job. This is one of the best Hulk comic collections I’ve read in years & years. It’s dark, moody, and suspenseful all at the same time! Plus, he even digs deep in to old school Hulk continuity without making things difficult to new readers. Love the inclusion of some of the shout outs to old Hulk minutiae like Del Fry & Jackie McGee (homages to the old TV show), Trime & Buscema, and the gamma irradiated characters from early on in PAD’s classic run. I really cannot wait for the next volume.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There are 30 negative global ratings. One negative review pointed the poor comic condition: “Received the book today and it was practically bent in half and ripped on the binding. Most of the pages do not want to open because of the bend and rip. I know it’s just a trade but I don’t even want to read it like this.”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Kindle & Comixology formats available.
  • Paperback format available.
  • Free with a Comixology Unlimited subscription.
  • Classic Hulk horror story.

NEGATIVE:

  • Poor comic condition.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this comic as a horror adaptation of the Silver Age Hulk for new readers.

IN GODS, MONSTERS AND INFINITE POWER

THE TWO STRONGEST MONSTERS IN ANY UNIVERSE

Database Comics.

In today’s article, we compare two fighters that are the cream of the crop in terms of strength, power, rage… and yes, fighting!

Incredibly, let’s introduce the battle to end all battles: Doomsday, the Ultimate vs The Incredible Hulk. Though these two monsters have yet to face in a crossover, fans have salivated at the thought of a vicious brawl.

Really, both are an A-list hero and a B-list villain in their respective universes. Namely, the legendary Doomsday is famous for being the monster who killed Superman. For his part, Hulk is the Strongest Avenger and only keeps getting stronger.

Though both monsters have evolved multiple forms, let’s compare their strength in terms of their strongest power levels. Hence, we compare Hunter/Prey (HP) Doomsday with Immortal Hulk (IMH).

FORMIDABILITY

Generally, formidability is the ability to compete, match and defeat a foe despite overwhelming odds. Usually, formidability indicates a warrior’s ability to defeat a stronger, more powerful and more resourceful enemy.

For this reason, it is almost interchangeable with the Fighting Skills Level. For example, this explains why Batman is able to defeat Killer Croc or Bane who are in fact stronger or more powerful.

Using tactics, training, technology, resources and intel, Batman is usually able to take on more powerful opponents.

Before we rank our two heroes, let’s list some rules.

  1. First, the hero should be able to consistently defeat opponents above their strength class or power level.
  2. In terms of power level or fighting skills, they should have few or no weaknesses.
  3. Consistently, they should face quality opponents that are at least able to destroy a city.
  4. Finally, they should have fewer limitations in power, strength, ability or intelligence.

First, we will compare them in Strength Class, Weaknesses, Quality Opponents and Limitations. At the top, you can check their Formidability Scores. To note, all scores are rated out of a 100.

VISIT THE COLLECTOR’S SHIP!

1. STRENGTH CLASS

Generally, both H/P Doomsday and IMH possess a Boundless-Level of Super Strength. As matter of fact, this means they have an infinite amount of Super-Strength and can become as strong as necessary.

In the case of H/P Doomsday, his Super Strength is more properly speaking a form of Reactive Evolution and Resurrection. In Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey (1994) #1, after Darkseid fells Doomsday with his Omega Effect, Doomsday come back to life.

When Doomsday comes back to life, he evolves an adaptation to Darkseid’s Omega Effect which can no longer harm him. And what we estimate to be a Universal-Level of Super-Strength. Theoretically, there is no upper limit to his Super-Strength.

On the other hand, Immortal Hulk, also has the novel power of Resurrection. In fact, he theoretically cannot die. Or in better words, he resurrects from every death. In the first issue, IMH resurrects from a gunshot wound to the head and finds he can smell lies.

In effect, IMH is immortal and can only be killed by the being who is the source of his power, the One-Below-All. Really, Immortal Hulk has Boundless Super-Strength since he can defeat Gods or Abstracts.

ADVANTAGE: TIE

2. WEAKNESSES

For the most part, Doomsday’s weakness is properly speaking Universal Forces. In the comic, Doomsday is felled by Darkseid’s Omega Effect. Because of the OE’s powers and its relation to the chaotic side of the Source, the Omega Effect is certainly a power of entropy.

Really, the only way to defeat H/P Doomsday is to subject him to the powers of entropy. At the end of the comic, Superman transports Doomsday to the end of the universe with Waverider’s help, ending his murderous rampage.

In some sense, Immortal Hulk is protected by a Divine Enchantment. As a host of the One-Below-All, who rules Hell, he comes back from every death. Though he can be wounded, pierced and even killed, he always resurrects. Effectively, his Weakness lasts as long as the Divine Enchantment.

Generally, though both warriors are evenly matched in strength, IMH may lack the specific power necessary to finally overcome H/P Doomsday’s onslaught. As Doomsday evolves, he may land the killing blow that severes his connection to the Green Door.

ADVANTAGE: IMMORTAL HULK

3. QUALITY OPPONENTS

Generally, Immortal Hulk has a decisive advantage in this department. Over a more developed series, IMH faces multiple opponents such as Sasquatch, the Avengers and even the One-Below-All.

In Immortal Hulk Vol 1 13, Immortal Hulk faces the One-Below-All and his horde of monsters in Hell. Importantly, he has to deal with his father who disowns him as a child of evil. Decisively, Hulk swats him away dispersing at the same time, the One-Below-All.

In the Marvel hierarchy, the One-Above-All, is the God of the Marvel Multiverse. Oppositely, the One-Below-All is below and is unthinking monster that needs gamma-ray powered hosts in the Marvel multiverse.

Certainly, IMH’s Quality Opponents are God or Abstract-Level.

ADVANTAGE: IMMORTAL HULK

4. LIMITATIONS

Though H/P Doomsday is more limited due to his lack of intelligence, his Boundless Super-Strength, Reactive Evolution, Resurrection and Universal-Level Durability make up for them.

For his part, IMH is only limited by his Power Dependency as a gamma-ray host of One-Below-All.

In general, since both characters are monsters, Intelligence is not an isssue.

ADVANTAGE: IMMORTAL HULK

VERDICT:

Though Immortal Hulk is more powerful and can defeat a God or Abstract, the outcome is either a stalemate or a win for Doomsday who can only be defeated by entropy.

And that’s our ranking! Don’t forget to leave comments if you liked the DC vs Marvel.
