Super Power: The Force

SUPER POWER

Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.“―Obi-Wan Kenobi

What super power do you want?

Today, we talk about one of the most awesome and fantastic super powers in comics! We talk about The Force, the mystical power that the Jedi and the Sith use!

What is it? And why is it important to the Star Wars story?

The Force Unites The Galaxy

The Force is a mysterious energy field that binds the galaxy. It is known by different names by different species.

The Force was an energy field that connected everything in the universe, and was known by a variety of names throughout galactic history. It was called the Ashla by the LasatsIt by the dianoga Omi, the Life Current by the Mustafarians, the Sight by the Chiss, the Life Wind by the Zeffo, and the Luminous Mist by the Mist-Weavers

The Force was created by life and resides in all lifeforms.

Mystics and scholars have debated on the origins of the Force and of when civilizations on different planets in the galaxy became aware of its existence. Its existence is recorded up to 25,000 years before the Galactic Civil War by different schools of study.

The Force exists in two forms: The Living Force is the energy of all lifeforms and those energies are fed into the Cosmic Force which is responsible for binding the galaxy together and communicating the will of the Force through the midi-chlorians.

Droids and other artificial constructs exist outside the Force and have no connection to the Force energy that is sustained by life.

The Jedi Order

Apart from its scientific aspect, the Force was the basis of various religious organizations such as the Church of the Force, the Guardians of the Whills, and most notably the Jedi Order and the Sith Order. In addition, the Lasats believed that the Force was the “spirit” of the galaxy.

The Force was deemed powerful in individuals called “force-sensitives” who had a high concentration of midi-chlorians – microscopic, sentient lifeforms that shared a symbiotic relationship with the Cosmic Force – in their blood. “Force-sensitives” were believed to be able to feel a disturbance in the Force when there is a great loss of life.

It is thought that the midi-chlorians which connected the Living Force to the Cosmic Force, originated from the Wellspring of Life. Some believe that the origin of the Force came from Mortis.

The Jedi Order became over time, the most well-known religious organization that practiced the ways of the Force, though the galaxy hosted other religious organizations.

The Jedi Order was an Order of protectors who were dedicated to a doctrine using the light side of the Force to attain an inner state of tranquility and peace through calmness and meditation while avoiding emotions associated with the dark side of the Force such as anger and hatred. Though the Jedi Order was committed to peace, it permitted the use of self-defense in the case of attack or the defense of others. The Jedi used a light-saber, made by kyber crystal which had a strong connection to the Force and of different colors such as blue or yellow.

The Jedi-Sith War

At last the Jedi are no more.
Not if anything to say about it, I have.“―Darth Sidious and Yoda

After the Hundred-Year Darkness, war broke out between the Jedi and the Sith which lasted for millennia. The Jedi used the light side of the Force to protect life and achieve a state of tranquility, while the Sith used the dark side of the Force that used anger and passion to achieve violence.

This war occurred during the Dark Age at the time of the Old Republic. There were two battles over the planet Coruscant. The Jedi liberated the planet.

The Galactic Republic was soon replaced by the Galactic Empire ruled by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious.

The Chosen One

During the latter years of the Republic, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn discovered the prophesied Chosen One in the form of a human child named Anakin Skywalker, whose potential in the Force surpassed all known Jedi including Grand Master Yoda. His raw strength in the Force—honed by Jedi training and wartime experiences—made Skywalker one of the most powerful Jedi Knights by the time of the Clone Wars. At the height of the war, however, Skywalker was seduced by the dark side of the Force through the machinations of Darth Sidious.[18] As a result, he betrayed the Jedi and helped the newly formed Galactic Empire hunt them to near extinction as Darth Vader.

Force Powers

“Force-sensitives” such as the Jedi and the Sith, trained in the use of the Force, which granted them extraordinary abilities such as telekinesis, mind control, the power to see the future and superior physical strength and speed. Some uses of the Force are for protection, persuasion, to induce sleep or jump across great distances.

The Sith who believed in using passion and anger to stir violence used the dark side of the Force. They possessed powers considred “unnatural” such as Force lightning and Force choke.
