Currently, there are various explanations for the emergence of comic book collecting as a hobby. Among the possible theories, are the rise of back issues with the change from news stands to the direct market model.

For the most part, the art of comic book collecting is very complicated and has created a lot of speculation in the investor market ever since the hobby became an occurrence in the late 1980s. WHERE TO START?

Generally, the best and first exposure to comics and merchandise is the local comic shop or LCS. Depending on the store’s specialty or model, you may find new releases, events, back issues or may even be able to order rare issues.

With the rise of online shopping, Kindle has grown into a viable market for Amazon books, Comixology and comics. Indeed, the comic industry is growing globally with digital sales since there is no need for shipping and they are delivered instantly to your Kindle device.

Though Comic-Con is a great place to find great deals and rare comics, collectors also attend online and in-person auctions where valuable comics are sold at very expensive prices for their condition, age and value.
