MARVEL DAY
IN COMIC COLLECTIONS
In Iron Man (2010) 2, director Jon Favreau introduces a new villain called Justin Hammer who joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actor Sam Rockwells stars in the supporting role as the head of Hammer Industries and Stark Industries’ main competitor. In the movie, Tony Stark seeks to protect his Iron Man technology as a new threat emerges.
This December 19th, in Marvel history, we celebrate the first appearance of Justin Hammer in Iron Man (1978) #120.
JUSTIN HAMMER MAKES HIS FIRST APPEARANCE
In the near mint Iron Man (1978) #120 writers David Micheline, Bob Layton and artist John Romita Jr. continue Iron Man’s tenure with S.H.I.E.L.D. In an epic story, Iron Man must save Hiram Dobbs from radiation on an island while he battles Namor underwater. During the issue, Hammer Industries’ head, Justin Hammer, makes his first appearance. Perhaps, one of the most serious Iron Man stories with near death. According to Comichron, neither Diamond nor Capital published end-of-year sales reports in the 1980s until October 1984.
