The battle to decide who is the true cyborg!

DAMAGE SCALE

The fight starts out with Cyborg and Grid in a stalemate with their sonic cannons. After an explosion, Grid connects to Cyborg’s forehead and sends him into the digital dimension.

CYBORG ENERGY MANIPULATION – EXPLOSION ATTACKS: 6 DAMAGE PTS – 5 DAMAGE PTS = 1 DAMAGE PT.
GRID ENERGY MANIPULATION + REALITY WARPING – EXPLOSION ATTACKS = 6 DAMAGE PTS + 8 DAMAGE PTS – 5 DAMAGE PTS = 9 DAMAGE PTS.

On the following pages, Cyborg lands a reality-warping attack by destroying Grid’s digital body. Grid recovers and lands three reality-warping attacks by scratching and destroying Cyborg’s digital body..

CYBORG REALITY-WARPING – REGENERATION ATTACKS = 8 DAMAGE PTS – 3 DAMAGE PTS = 5 DAMAGE PTS.
GRID REALITY-WARPING ATTACKS x 3 = 24 DAMAGE PTS.

The battle kicks into high gear when Grid turns Cyborg into his human form with reality-warping attacks. Accepting his human form, Cyborg deals Grid with one final reality-warping attack, disconnecting Grid by leaving it in the dark. Then, Grid goes offline.

GRID REALITY-WARPING + INTERNAL BLEEDING ATTACKS = 8 DAMAGE PTS + 3 DAMAGE PTS = 11 DAMAGE PTS.

CRISES

IN A FOILED INVASION ATTEMPT BY DARKSEID, CYBORG IS MISSING

In ‘DCeased’ (2019) #1, Cyborg is infected with the Anti-Life Equation virus. At the beginning of the issue, the Justice League has foiled an invasion by Darkseid. Superman and Batman order Darkseid to not return to Earth. Wonder Woman has bound Darkseid in the Lasso of Truth, which compels him to speak the Truth. Surprisingly, Darkseid uncoils the Lasso of Truth and states he has what he came for, leaving in a Boom Tube without further battle.

At that moment, Batman’s tracking device signals that Cyborg is missing. Batman states Cyborg is not in Metropolis, and not on Earth. Asked by Flash how Batman knows, the Dark Knight says he has a location monitor in one of Cyborg’s programs. Superman asks Batman if Cyborg knew the Dark Knight was tracking him. Then Flash asks if Batman has a tracking device on Superman. With a pause, Batman answers in the negative.

CYBORG IS TORTURED BY DESAAD, AND DARKSEID HAVING CORRUPTED THE ANTI-LIFE EQUATION (ALE), GOES MAD

Desaad has abducted Cyborg on Apokolips. The purpose of Darkseid’s plan is to obtain the first half of the ALE. Desaad reveals to Cyborg that Darkseid seeks the second half of the ALE and suspects Cyborg possesses it. Cyborg questions Darkseid’s motives and at that moment, the monarch shows up. He asks Desaad to cut Cyborg’s tongue. Darkseid wants to use Motherbox in order to add Darkseid’s half of the ALE to Cyborg’s system.

However, Desaad points out that Cyborg will likely not survive the process and the ALE will cease to exist. At that moment, Darkseid summons the Black Racer with the Motherbox. After Desaad grows Cyborg a new tongue, he takes a piece of the Black Racer and corrupts the ALE merged to Cyborg with it. The ALE virus was born. Though Desaad was immune to disease. Desaad tried to send Cyborg away with the ALE virus, but to no use. Darkseid was infected with the ALE virus. Darkseid went raving mad.

THE PANDEMONIUM IN METROPOLIS PROVES ELSEWORLDS ARE DARK: CYBORG GOES ONLINE AND SPREADS THE ALE VIRUS TO THE INTERNET

Cyborg is Boom-Tubed to Metropolis. Immediately, he goes online. The ALE virus spread from its patient zero as a techno-organic virus to the Internet. Cyborg attempted to firewall himself but it was too late. an Elseworlds story, was this a celebration of darkness, a romanticization of horror stories? As the pandemonium in Metropolis will prove, Elseworld stories tend to be too dark. That may also be the case for mainstream continuity stories.

Reminiscent of the best horror stories, the ALE virus jumped from media to media spreading horror. People literally tried to tear the equation from their heads. They have turned into zombies. At the home of Scott Free and Big Barda, Superman succeeded in recruiting the heroes, when suddenly, he heard the world screaming. He flew into the streets and saw the pandemonium. Distraught, he sped to his family and destroyed the cellphone and the television screen with his heat vision before Jon and Damian could access them.

AFFILIATION: JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE ODYSSEY, TITANS

CHARACTERISTICS

HEIGHT: 6’6″ (1.98 M) MALE

ORIGIN STORY

Victor Stone was a high school football athlete at odds with his brilliant scientist father Silas Stone.1 Victor visited his father at S.T.A.R. Labs who was working on the Father Box found due to recent alien sightings. When the New God Darkseid initiated an invasion of Earth, Victor Stone was caught in the explosion of the Father Box at S.T.A.R. Labs.2

In order to save his son, Silas Stone took Victor to the Red Room. There, using experimental technology, he turned Victor into a cyborg by injecting him with nanites and installed cybernetic parts.3

These included a Promethean skin graft, Dr. Will Magnus‘ ResponsometerProfessor Ivo’s A-maze operating system, the classified and prototypical B-maze operating system, and graduate student Ryan Choi‘s White Dwarf Stabilizer, as well as the energies from the Father Box. This allowed Vic to access the vast New Gods data library and discover Darkseid’s true invasion plans.

When Vic first woke up after the accident, he could not move his legs and discovered his new robotic body. The Red Room was attacked by a group of Parademons; before they could hurt Sarah Charles, Cyborg’s defense system’s reacted automatically, causing his arm to shift into a sonic cannon. He destroyed the creatures, along with half the building. Vic, mortified at what his father had turned him into to save his life, escaped through the hole in the wall, with his father’s calls to stay falling on deaf ears.

-Victor Stone (Prime Earth), DC Database

CYBORG JOINS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE

While roaming the streets, Vic saved a woman that was being attacked by Parademons. As a result, he incorporated some of the Parademons’ components, granting him access to Boom Tube technology. Then, he was teleported to the site where the other heroes, Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash were battling Parademon hordes. Cyborg still lacked control of his super powers.

Cyborg helped the heroes battle Darkseid and his Parademon army. As Superman hurled Darkseid into a Boom Tube, Cyborg fiercely tapped into the technology and managed to close the portal, ending the invasion of Earth. After the invasion of Earth, the general public became more accepting of superheroes. Cyborg and the other superheroes were branded “the Super Seven”, later to be named the Justice League.

In ‘Justice League’ (2014) #29, Cyborg recruits the Metal Men in order to battle Grid.

At his base, Grid is in communications with the Crime Syndicate. They have found out that Lex Luthor and his rebels have freed the Crime Syndicate’s prisoner from the Justice League Satellite.

Grid notices Cyborg has taken over his communications. Cyborg says Grid is wondering how he survived. To which Grid responds, Cyborg was built a new body and he knows where Cyborg is.

Cyborg sets the trap since he is counting on his team and asks Grid to “come and get me.”1 Grid accepts the challenge.

THE METAL MEN CAN’T BE DETECTED BY GRID, SINCE THEY ARE OFFLINE

Grid seeks Cyborg in an empty street near Happy Harbor. When Grid says Cyborg is hiding, Cyborg appears and says he is not. Grid then states he thought he was rid of Cyborg as he attacks Cyborg with a blast. As Cyborg evades the attack, he notes Grid can’t see the Metal Men. At that moment, Iron attacks Grid with a wrecking ball. The battle is on.

Grid gets wrecked through buildings and houses. Lead is directing the attack and asks Dr. Magnus for orders. He tells Lead and Iron to keep hitting Grid. Grid recovers and says he has identified Dr. Magnus’ voice. Iron responds with a direct attack by slamming Grid through a car.

As Grid recovers again, Mercury appears. Since Mercury “is the only metal that’s liquid at room temperature”, he attempts to enter Grid’s gears and melt them.2 The attack fails and Grid incinerates Mercury.

Grid notes the androids are inferior and that they feel. He identifies the source of their feelings to their responsometer and removes Mercury’s responsometer. At that moment, Grid summons the Secret Society.

‘FOREVER EVIL’

It is now Cyborg and the Metal Men against Grid and the Secret Society. While the Metal Men take on the Secret Society of Super-Villains, Cyborg takes on Grid.

Forward on the action, it is evident that the real objective of ‘Forever Evil’ is to free the Justice League. As new enemies arrive, Cyborg orders the Metal Men to keep fighting why he goes “to save the Justice League.”3

In ‘Justice League’ (2014) #29, Cyborg prepares Dr. Magnus and the Metal Men for ‘Forever Evil.’ In his robotics lab, Dr. Magnus argues the Metal Men were designed for rescue missions. Though their metals were durable, their minds and their hearts could not endure the reaction with Chemo. They were a failure. Dr. Magnum states they were not meant to replace the Justice League.

Cyborg argues that the purpose of the Metal Men was to save lives. With the Justice League M.I.A., the Metal Men are the only ones who can stop ‘Forever Evil.’ As Cyborg speaks, Dr. Magnus activates the Metal Men. The Metal Men come online.

CYBORG, MEET THE METAL MEN!

The Metal Men greet Cyborg. Tin comes online and states he vaguely remembers what happened. Dr. Magnus tells him he saved “hundreds of people.”1 Gold remembers “our bodies were destroyed” and states they were expensive.1 Platinum thanks Dr. Magnus for bringing them back online. Iron notices Cyborg and asks whether he is a robot or a man. Lead states “I think he’s… both.”1 He asks Cyborg how much he can bench-press. Mercury panics and starts wondering if Cyborg is the future, where robots are merged with human beings to create monsters.

This is the problem that A.I. raises as humanity is developing more advanced robotics. Gold, the most curious and the most scientifically-concerned, asked whether Cyborg is made of Silver? Mercury asks if it’s Mercury. Iron remarks “it looks stronger than titanium.”1 Lead wonders if Iron is stronger. Dr. Magnus interjects asking for the Metal Men to let Cyborg tell them. Cyborg introduces himself and tells them “my body is made of Promethium.”1 He states he asked Dr. Magnus to reactivate them because he needs help with ‘Forever Evil.’

‘FOREVER EVIL’

Cyborg reveals the threat of ‘Forever Evil.’ “A few months ago,” the Justice League was infiltrated by one of the members of the Crime Syndicate, “a super-shrinker named Atomica.” She had come to join the Justice League and prepare the world for the arrival of the Crime Syndicate.

Atomica revealed to Cyborg he was a traitor. She made contact with “a sentient computer virus” inside Cyborg named Grid. Grid took control of Cyborg’s cybernetic body and ripped him off of it. A portal was opened and the Crime Syndicate arrived.

In ‘Justice League’ (2014) #29, Cyborg narrates the events of 'Forever Evil.'

The Crime Syndicate arrived. Grid took control of the world’s communications and computers. Grid took control of the Internet so anything connected to a network was under the control of the Crime Syndicate.

Cyborg reveals the reason the world needs the Crime Syndicate is because they can operate “independently of any other computer system.”1 That means, Grid “won’t be able to access [their] responsometers and take control.”1

In ‘Justice League’ (2014) #29, Cyborg, Dr. Magnus and the Metal Men make their stand against Grid near Happy Harbor.

Cyborg and Dr. Magnus arrive near Happy Harbor transported by the Metal Men. Cyborg reveals the Metal Men’s mission in ‘Forever Evil’: to help him make a stand against Grid.

Iron advises Dr. Magnus that “[he] should get clear and out of sight” and that the city “is too dangerous for humans.”1 Dr. Magnus, remembering the Metal Men’s deaths at the hands of Chemo, states he will go down together with them, this time. Perhaps, he has learnt to consider other species as worthy of life.

Gold asks Cyborg how to get Grid’s attention. Cyborg reveals that Grid thinks Cyborg is dead. Instead, they are going on the offensive.
