DC vs Marvel: Darkseid, The Boss vs My Boy Thanos!

Darkseid vs Thanos in 'DC Versus Marvel.'

DC VS MARVEL

DEATH BATTLE!

IN SUPERVILLAINS

THE TOP A-LIST VILLAINS AT DC AND MARVEL

Darkseid vs Thanos in 'DC Versus Marvel.'
Darkseid vs Thanos in DC Versus Marvel (1996).

In the mega-hit crossover DC Versus Marvel (1996), two powerful abstract entities named the Brothers threatened the existence of the DC and Marvel universes. Namely, in order to decide whose universe survives a contest of champions was decreed by the cosmic entities. In a series of battles, the heroes of both universes duked it out in outcomes decided by fan-vote. Largely, the battles were a popularity contest though they indeed were fun!

In some respect, one element that has not been appreciated enough is the off-panel confrontation between Darkseid and Thanos. So, let’s ask the obvious question: Who would win in a battle between Darkseid, The Boss vs My Boy Thanos?

Really, both are A-list villains in their respective universes. Namely, Thanos is well known for conquering the Infinity Gauntlet and bringing the Marvel universe to his heel. At the same time, Darkseid achieved virtual omnipotence in his millennial conquest of the Anti-Life Equation, which threatened the existence of the DC multiverse. At the same time, Thanos also experienced real victory in Marvel: The End. But since the story is non-canon, we cannot use it to compare both villains.

So, let’s compare Thanos with the IG to Darkseid with the ALE.

FORMIDABILITY

Generally, formidability is the ability to compete, match and defeat a foe despite overwhelming odds. Usually, formidability indicates a warrior’s ability to defeat a stronger, more powerful and more resourceful enemy. For this reason, it is almost interchangeable with the Fighting Skills Level. For example, this explains why Batman is able to defeat Killer Croc or Bane who are in fact stronger or more powerful. Using tactics, training, technology, resources and intel, Batman is usually able to take on more powerful opponents.

Before we rank our two A-list villains, let’s list some rules.

  1. First, the superhero should be able to consistently defeat opponents above their strength class or power level.
  2. In terms of power level or fighting skills, they should have few or no weaknesses.
  3. Consistently, they should face quality opponents that are at least able to destroy a city.
  4. Finally, they should have fewer limitations in power, strength, ability or intelligence.

First, we will compare them in Strength Class, Intelligence, Preparation, Power and Leadership. Then, let’s rank Darkseid and Thanos in Formidability. To note, all scores are rated out of a 100.

1. STRENGTH CLASS

Generally, Darkseid is at least Stellar Level in Super Strength. Regularly, he takes on Superman-level foes and either matches or is below Superman in Super Strength. At the same time, Orion vs Darkseid showed what happens when the two strongest New Gods unleash their power all-out.

With the ALE, Darkseid is in a human body. Due to those limitations, he is still so powerful that we rated his Super Strength as Irrelevant. At the same time, Darkseid is subject to weakness exploitation with the Radion bullet. In Thanos’ case, his only weakness is mental.

On the other hand, Thanos is often stronger than the strongest warriors in the Earth-616 Universe. In Infinity, Thanos takes on the strongest heroes without the IG: Hulk, Hyperion, Thor.

With the IG, Thanos takes on the entire roster of Marvel’s heroes with just the Power Gem. Hence, he has access to Infinite Super Strength.

ADVANTAGE: THANOS

2. INTELLIGENCE

In the Intelligence department, Darkseid is among the most intelligent beings in the DC Universe. As a New God, he has access to the Mother Box, the Father Box, the Hellspores, and not to mention he rules the entire planet of Apokolips with its advanced tech, armies and defense systems. In addition, he regularly spies on New Genesis, intercepts its communications with the nigh-omniscient Source. In Death of The New Gods, Darkseid actually decyphers the language of the Source to claim the Soulfire. And of course, at the start of Final Crisis, he claimed the ALE.

Generally, Thanos is a super-genius. In some sense, Thanos is both a space conqueror and a cosmic being. With Sanctuary, his home ship and various other crafts, he can destroy entire planets. In an Adam Warlock story, Thanos threatened to destroy stars in order to win Death.

Though Thanos’ intelligence is cunning, it does not operate on Darkseid’s scale. Indeed, in Thanos: Redemption, the mad Titan was able to intercept Galactus’ files and figured out they had been tampered with. Of course, Galactus is an abstract on the level of Eternity. However, there is quite a difference of power and scale between the universal Eternity and the multiversal Source, which is the final frontier of the DCU.

ADVANTAGE: DARKSEID

JOIN OUR #READONLINE CAMPAIGN AND TAKE THE PLEDGE

3. PREPARATION

In terms of strategy and preparation, Darkseid does not compare favorably. In order to gain the IG, Thanos largely operated on his own by besting the Elders of the Universe and other champions in single combat or by outsmarting them. Though, it took Thanos a relative short amount of time after discovering the Soul Gems in Death‘s realm.

In comparison, it took Darkseid millennia in order to obtain the object of his desire, the destructive Anti-Life Equation. As a New God, he intervened in Earth’s history, guiding it and planning in order to investigate that secret. And he still failed. In the end, it took the Death of the New Gods and the destruction of the Fourth World by the Source. Only in Heaven was the God of Evil able to conquer his prize.

ADVANTAGE: THANOS

4. POWER

Really, the gap in power between both is striking. Let’s start with Thanos. With the IG, the Mad Titan has Infinite power and is nigh-omnipotent. To this end, he was able to beat Marvel’s heroes. At the same time, at full power, he was able to defeat the cosmic entities, including Eternity. What is striking, however, is the fact that Thanos was able to affect only one universe and even Living Tribunal, the multiversal Judge, was not involved.

On the other hand, Darkseid with the ALE threatened all reality. That is, he threatened the entirety of the DC multiverse, past, present and future. All the way to Heaven or the Hyperverse. More importantly, unlike Thanos’ power dependency with the Gauntlet, Darkseid only had to upload the ALE over the Internet and speak it. Horrifyingly, the Earths of the DC multiverse were being dragged to Hell, by sinking into a singularity. How nightmarish!

In the end, all that was left of reality, was the Watchtower floating in space, where Superman and company made their last stand against Darkseid and his forces, even Mandrakk.

ADVANTAGE: DARKSEID

5. LEADERSHIP

Unquestionably, Darkseid wins in the leadership department. In his case, you actually have to beat him and be more powerful. Only Darkseid has succeeded in opposing everyone against Superman at the end of Final Crisis. With the ALE, the infected are an extension of Darkseid’s will.

In Thanos’ case, hubris undermine his leadership. Notably, despite having attained supremacy in the Marvel universe, Thanos was still challenged by lesser beings. Though he triumphed over his obstacles. Ultimately, Thanos unconsciously knew he was not fit for omnipotence and supplied the means to lose the IG.

Definitely, Darkseid is the Boss!

ADVANTAGE: DARKSEID

‘WHAT IF THE PHOENIX HAD NOT DIED’ ?

The Phoenix Force destroys the Earth-81727 universe.
The Phoenix Force destroys the Earth-81727 universe. Marvel Comics.
In our short-story of love, passion, destruction and extinction, we begin with Uatu in the Earth-616 universe.

To begin, the Watcher ponders the Phoenix's journey with the X-Men. In his musings, he contemplates an alternate reality...

Here, Phoenix did not die! Instead, the X-Men lost their battle against the Shi'ar and the Phoenix Force was psychically lobotomized from Jean Grey. But in reality, this was further from the truth.

On a fateful day, the X-Men were called into battle by Lilandra. On the alien planet Arama, our children of the atom were to face Galactus trying to consume the planet... and his herald Terrax! A fierce battle followed during which Terrax struck down the X-Men, even threatening Cyclops.

At that moment, we realized that the Phoenix had been laying dormant. Violently, she emerged and removed the Power Cosmic from Terrax. Then, she valiantly engaged Galactus in combat. Soon, she defeated him and repelled his invasion. However, Jean is overwhelmed by the fury and the passion of the Phoenix. A cosmic fiery bird of death and rebirth, Phoenix destroyed asteroids and consumed a star.

Eventually, the X-Men returned to Earth. When Shadowcat berated Jean for losing control, the telepath killed her. Soon, Dark Phoenix destroyed the X-Men one by one. Finally, the death of her lover, Cyclops, was the last straw.

In a fit of rage, folly and cosmic madness, the fiery bird consumed Earth, then the galaxy, and finally, the universe and beyond.

Here ends the story of the Phoenix which should serve as a cautionary tale to not let this fiery cosmic bird to reign unimpeded in the cosmos.

Super Power Explained: When Fed And When Hungry, How Tough Is Galactus?

IN SUPERVILLAINS

GALACTUS POSSESSES THE POWER COSMIC

With his eye-beams, Galactus removes Silver Surfer’s space-born powers, stranding him to Earth. Marvel Comics.

In the Marvel Universe, no being was more feared than Galactus. Recently, he met his timely end at the hands of Thor, in Devourer King. When King Thor became Galactus’ Herald, he was imbued with the Power Cosmic. Namely, Galactus possesses this reservoir of ambient, cosmic energy at an incalculable level. In fact, Galactus’ possession of the Power Cosmic makes him a cosmic entity on par with Eternity, the embodiment of the Marvel Universe. There are other reservoirs of power as well such as the Power Primordial which powers the Elders of the Universe.

Incredibly, Galactus possesses the Power Cosmic at a Universal Level with the potential to create or destroy the Marvel Universe. Definitely, such power is god-like and explains why the Devourer of Worlds eats planets. If the Star-God’s catalogue of super powers is endless, let’s examine his durability.

In other words, how tough is Galactus, when fed and when hungry?

GALACTUS’ POWER LEVEL

In Fantastic Four (1966) #50, Mister Fantastic threatens Galactus with the Ultimate Nullifier.
In Fantastic Four (1966) #50, Mister Fantastic threatens Galactus with the Ultimate Nullifier. Marvel Comics.

In The Galactus Trilogy, Earth-616 is threatened by Galactus for the first time. Somberly, Silver Surfer arrives to announce the end of the world. When Galactus comes to Earth, he clashes with the Fantastic Four. Meanwhile, Silver Surfer meets Alicia Masters. Fortunately, she convinces Norrin to turn against his master. Together, the FF and Silver Surfer are aided by Uatu the Watcher in their battle. When Human Torch retrieves the Ultimate Nullifier from Taa II at Watcher’s directions, the tide changes. In possession of the Ultimate Nullifier, Mister Fantastic threatens Galactus with annihilation unless he leaves.

Since the UN is an artifact on Galactus’ solar system-sized home, it gives an estimation of his power level. Importantly, the Nullifier can lay waste to a galaxy, and destroy a universe. As a result, Galactus relented his invasion. In terms of durability, this means Galactus is at least Galaxy-Level in Durability and Power Level. However, that is not enough to determine his fed and hungry states.

WHEN HUNGRY

In Thanos (2004) #6, Thanos crashes Rigel-3 and Rigel-18 onto Galactus and Hunger. Marvel Comics.

In Thanos: Redemption (Thanos (2003-2004)), Galactus is manipulated by the cosmic entity named the Hunger. In an attempt to rid himself of his cosmic hunger, Galactus accidentally summons the Hunger into the Earth-616 reality.

Though Thanos finds out about Hunger’s machinations, he fails in stopping Galactus. After the Hunger enters this reality, Thanos brings in the big guns! Powerfully, the mad Titan teleports old Rigel-3 into Rigel-18’s orbit. On a collision course, both planets slam onto each other in a cosmic conflagration. In between, Galactus and Hunger are caught in the collision. Incredibly, Galactus survives.

Previously, Hunger had severely weakened Galactus who was in a hungry state. If we estimate Galactus’ durability feat, we can make a comparison. In fact, if we collide two planets the size of Earth at orbital velocity, the work done is at least Stellar-Level in Energy Projection. Indeed, a hungry Galactus is at least Stellar-Level in Durability.

Then, a sated Galactus enters the core of the galaxy. Powerfully, Galactus survives the gravitational force at the core of the Milky Way galaxy without any trouble. Definitely, a feat requiring a Galaxy to Universal-Level durability.

In the issue, it is stated that Galactus survived the previous universe’s destruction. If Galactus can survive the forces of entropy, that puts his potential durability as Universal-Level.

HEROES AND VILLAINS MORE POWERFUL

DOCTOR DOOM

In 'Incredible Hulk' (2011) #7, Doctor Doom defeats Perfect Hulk.
In Incredible Hulk (2011) #7, Doctor Doom defeats Perfect Hulk. DC Comics.

In the Marvel Universe, no supervillain is more lustful and proud than Doctor Doom. Generally, Doctor Doom does not want to destroy the world. Really, the Baron of Iron intends to rule.

Despite his unlimited strength, Hulk has weaknesses. Among his weaknesses, is magic. Particularly, Doctor Doom is unique for his union of science and sorcery. In fact, he is a powerful mage who once contended as a runner-up for the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

In a battle, Doctor Doom’s invulnerable Armor, mystic blasts and esoteric powers are more than a match for Hulk’s strength. Furthermore, Doom’s super-genius intelligence can definitely exploit Hulk’s lack of intelligence.

In Incredible Hulk (2011) #7, Doctor Doom defeats Perfect Hulk. In the issue, Doom separated Hulk from Bruce Banner creating Perfect Hulk. Later, Hulk returns blaming Doom for the Behemoth having killed Bruce Banner. Soon, a fight follows. Though short-lived, it highlights Doctor Doom’s magic and intelligence advantages.

Definitely, Doctor Doom ranks among the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.

COSMIC KING THOR

In 'Thor' (2020) #6, Cosmic King Thor kills Galactus.
In Thor (2020) #6, Cosmic King Thor kills Galactus. Marvel Comics.

Over the years, Thor and Hulk have been considered rivals. Though, Hulk has often been considered the strongest Avenger. At IGN, Jesse Schedeen argues Thor Just Managed to Kill [Spoiler], Proving He Actually Is the Strongest Avenger.

In 2020, Cosmic King Thor dramatically outclassed the competition. During Donny Cates’ run, titled Devourer King, King Thor becomes Cosmic King Thor, Herald of Galactus. To begin, Galactus and Silver Surfer come to Asgard to warn of the Black Winter. To stop it, Thor agrees to become Galactus’ Herald.

However, it comes at a cost. To prepare for the calamity, Thor helps Galactus consume five planets. Finally, the Black Winter arrives. After testing Thor, it reveals the King dreadful visions of the future. In the end, Thor realizes that he must fulfill Galactus’ prophecy: he is the one to kill Galactus. In one powerful blast, Thor throws his hammer at the Star God, incinerating him immediately.

And considering Thor’s godblast is Universal-Level and a fully-fed Galactus can withstand the core of a galaxy. Definitely, at least a Universal-Level of Energy Projection.

Without a doubt, Hulk has the potential for Infinite Super Strength. Though, Thor’s energy projection can deal some serious damage. In a battle, it is a matter of whether Hulk can withstand a Universe-busting attack from Thor.

In Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus (2007) #2, Silver Surfer absorbs the energy of the Big Crunch to defeat Proemial Gods. Marvel Comics.

To this day, Annihilation Silver Surfer is the most popular version of the character. For good measure. During the Annihilation event, Silver Surfer and the United Front fight off an invasion from the Negative Zone. To this end, Annihilus aided by Thanos, has imprisoned Galactus to use as a bomb.

In order to face this crisis, Galactus increases Surfer’s power. Though, he tampers with his personality. Back to active service, Silver Surfer becomes a challenger to even Thor post-Annihilation.

Amazingly, one of the Sentinel’s most well-known feats during Annihilation, is his fight against two Proemial Gods. Notably, Proemial Gods derive their powers from the Big Crunch, the end of the universe.

In Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus (2007) #2, Silver Surfer defeats Tenebrous and Aegis. Initially, no match for the two gods, Silver Surfer lays in space badly wounded. Then, he elects to absorb the energies of the Big Crunch. Soon, he fells his foes. Fortunately, Galactus arrives and heals Surfer who is near death.

In the Marvel Universe, Silver Surfer is one of the top energy manipulators. Over the years, Silver Surfer has dominated Hulk in battles. Using the Power Cosmic, the Silver Surfer has often tampered with Hulk’s rage. In effect, calming the monster and reverting him to Bruce Banner.

Visit Silver Surfer vs Thor.

VOID SENTRY

In Siege (2010) #4, Thor and the Avengers face Void Sentry.

At Marvel, there have been many Marvel Supermen versions: Hyperion, Blue Marvel, Gladiator and even Sentry. Among them, Sentry has been the most successful. Perhaps, the most powerful Marvel Superman.

What makes Sentry tick is the fact that he is mentally unstable with the overwhelming power of a god. In fact, he has been stated to possess the power of a million exploding suns.

In World War Hulk, Sentry clashed with Hulk’s most powerful version. What resulted, was a thrilling fight with planet-busting punches and a tornado of searing energy blasts. Both characters went all-out. And at the end, only Bruce Banner was left standing.

However, that was not Sentry’s most powerful version. In Siege (2010) #4, Thor and the Avengers faced Void Sentry. As Void Sentry, Robert Reynolds is an abstract being of horrifying power. Moreover, the entity literally thrashed the entire Avengers team. Indeed, only the power of a god – a Thunder God – is able to conquer him. Proving that when push comes to shove, Thor and Sentry rank ahead of Hulk in terms of power.

PREVIOUSLY, SILVER SURFER’S LEFT ARM WAS TAINTED WITH DARKNESS BATTLING KNULL

In ‘Silver Surfer: Black’ #2, Silver Surfer was previously tainted in darkness. At the beginning of time, Silver Surfer had found the god of darkness. In a battle with Knull, the Sentinel was turned into the dark Elder God’s Void Knight. Fortunately, Surfer was freed from Klyntar by the intervention of Ego the Living Planet. Weak from his battle, the Sentinel of the Spaceways was contaminated by the darkness. In fact, his left hand was tainted with the Living Abyss. Growing, the darkness doomed Surfer. In fact, it was a matter of time before the darkness overtook him.

In ‘Silver Surfer: Black’ #3, Silver Surfer seeks to restore his Power Cosmic. Incredibly, Surfer was guided by Ego to the Black Galaxy. There, Surfer identified his benefactor. Near the planet, he asked Ego if he could rest upon it. To which it agreed. While resting, the Surfer noticed earthquakes on the planet. Sensing a problem, he offered to help if Ego helped him fight Knull. Begrudgingly, Ego accepted. Inside the planet’s core, Norrin fought off its antibodies. There, he found the Lifebringer One, a growing Galactus. Horrified, Silver Surfer decides to destroy the future Devourer of Worlds. Later, he relents.

In ‘Silver Surfer’ (2019) #4, Ego infuses Silver Surfer with the power of the Light. Previously, Surfer planned to kill Galactus in orer to change history. After an astral conversation with Galan, Norrin changes plans. In fact, he wants to allow Marvel history to take its course.

Having returned to Ego the Living Planet, Surfer communicates him his plan. Telepathically, Ego looks into Surfer’s mind. Then, he connects Surfer to all the life in the cosmos. Infused with the power of Light, Silver Surfer is prepared to battle the approaching Knull.

SILVER SURFER TRANSFORMS HIS BOARD INTO A SWORD AGAINST ALL-BLACK

In ‘Silver Surfer’ (2019) #5, Silver Surfer faces off against Knull a second time. However, this time, the Surfer vows to stop the dark god no matter the cost. During the titanic clash, Knull’s darkness contaminates Silver Surfer even moe. Now, the darkness tainting Surfer covers almost his entire body.

Epically, Silver Surfer transforms his flying surfboard into a sword. Mano a mano, the two warriors appear evenly matched. Indeed, it appears Silver Surfer’s sword is a match for All-Black, Knull’s sword. However, Surfer is reminded that Knull is not a single entity but a horde. Viciously, tendrils lash off the symbiote-dragon. And they engulf Silver Surfer in the darkness. Apparently, the King in Black has won the battle.

SILVER SURFER CREATES A STAR TO DEFEAT KNULL

Desperately, Silver Surfer shackled by tendrils, senses the end. Forcefully, the darkness seeks to conquer the Light. However, as Knull draws near, the Light stirs the Surfer. Valiantly, he remembers his courage. Incredibly, Silver Surfer creates a sun momentarily reclaiming his light.

In anguish, Knull is incinerated and screams in pain. As the sun glows in the cosmos, Knull is sent away to the edges of the universe. But, Silver Surfer knows the villain will return. Courageously, Silver Surfer seeks to restore the cosmic balance.

To begin, “The Mighty Thor Vol. 1” is the most serious treatment of Thor since “Thor: Disassembled.” To sum, the Volume is a cosmic story about beginnings and endings. In fact, a story arc about the end of the world, and the end of Asgard.

In a few words, Silver Surfer comes to Fallen Asgard to bring a message to Odin and Thor: Hand over the Worldheart to Galactus or Asgard will be destroyed. Amazingly, Matt Fraction’s writing is crisp, cold and detached while Olivier Coipel illustrates panels that capture the seriousness of the moment.

Certainly, this is an event you do not want to miss. Indeed, share this graphic novel to fans of Thor and to comic collectors. Definitely, it is worth its price and will leave you wanting for more Thor! And Silver Surfer!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

Certainly, “The Mighty Thor By Matt Fraction Vol. 1 (The Mighty Thor (2011-2012))” is the Kindle and Comixology editions. Without a doubt, the story arc showcases some of the best Thor battles in comics. In fact, Thor and Silver Surfer engage in two battles of cosmic proportions.

In a few words, Silver Surfer has come to Asgard to deliver an ultimatum from Galactus: Hand over the Worldheart to Galactus or watch Asgard be destroyed. Naively, Surfer believes Galactus seeks to sate his hunger whereas Odin reveals to Thor that Galactus seeks to live forever when the Marvel Universe restarts. In short, the stakes are high.

IN SUPERHERO BATTLES

SHE-HULK’S AND TITANIA’S BRIEF ORIGIN STORIES

SHE-HULK’S SOLO DEBUT

In ‘Savage She-Hulk’ (1980) #1, She-Hulk makes her first sensational debut. To begin, Bruce Banner is on the run from the police. In the issue, he has come to seek Jennifer Walters’ help. Fearfully, Bruce confides his secret to his cousin. Learning he is the Hulk, she decides to take him home. Jennifer tells Bruce she is working on a criminal law case. In fact, she is defending a hood called Monkton accused of killing Trask’s bodyguard.

JENNIFER WALTERS BECOMES SHE-HULK

On the way, Jennifer is shot by Trask’s men. Frantically, he takes her to a doctor’s office. Unfortunately, there is no one available at the door and Bruce breaks in. Quickly, he performs a blood transfusion since they are the same blood type. Later, at the hospital, Jennifer is attacked by three of Trask’s henchmen. Overcoming chloroform intoxication, Jennifer transforms into… She-Hulk. Then, she is in hot pursuit of Trask’s men later capturing them.

TITANIA’S BACK STORY

In ‘She-Hulk’ (2005) #10, we learn about Titania’s back story. In space, an alien visits the Watcher named Zoma. Strangely, he wants information on Titania. In fact, he requires it in order to destroy their common enemy: She-Hulk.

BORN MARY MACPHERRAN

Surely, Zoma tells him Titania was born prematurely in Denver, Colorado. As a result, she was born tiny with stunted development. Indeed, her real name is Mary McPherran. Over the years, Mary developed fantasies about prince charming and fairy tales. Entering the public school system, her classmates rejected her for being small and “puny.”1 Only Marsha Rosenberg accepted her who was made fun of because of her weight.

MARY MACPHERRAN BECOMES TITANIA

As an adult, Mary fantasized about her friends’ successful lives. When she discovered comic books, she fantasized about gaining superpowers and getting revenge on her enemies. In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1984) #3, Mary and Marsha were transported to Battleworld by Beyonder. There, they were granted super powers by Doctor Doom. To sum, Mary became Titania and Marsha became Volcana.

ON BATTLEWORLD, THE RIVALRY BEGINS

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1984) #3, the Wrecking Crew bring an ominous present to the heroes. More to the point, it is the near-lifeless body of the Wasp. Frantically, She-Hulk brings her to Zsaji for healing. Despite her gifts, Zsaji is unable to heal Wasp. Horrified, Hawkeye pronounces her dead.

As the heroes contemplate fighting back, Captain America warns them of a Galactus attack. On her own, She-Hulk goes to seek revenge. At Doombase, She-Hulk makes short work of the Wrecking Crew. Then, the Avenger meets Titania. Defiantly, Titania believes herself a Titan and the strongest. When she meets She-Hulk for the first time, she tests her super strength against her match.

EXHIBIT A: MAYHEM AND “CUDDLES” (FLIRTATIOUS)

In ‘Solo Avengers’ (1989) #14, Jennifer Walters is at the Supreme Court arguing aginst the Mutant Registration Act. Suddenly, she is interrupted by a man who tells her she is urgently needed. Recognizing Avenger business, Court goes into recess.

While she changes into costume in a phone booth, a police officer holds off a crowd of onlookers. Excited, the officer takes a peek. To this, she reacts by noting that all men are pigs. Outside, She-Hulk finds her playmate, Titania. Angrily, Titania is thrashing a car and spelling her name.

“Hi, Cuddles.”2 To begin, She-Hulk greets the powerhouse with a tap on her right shoulder. Indeed, She-Hulk/Titania matches are plenty of playful banter. In some sense, the two powerhouses flirt in order to size up one another.

Next, as the pair exchanges a question and answer, She-Hulk lands a punch that sends Titania flying before she can finish her sentence. Really, the punch packed a wallop landing the villain across the Potomic in Virginia.

“FIRST TIME WE MET, BABYCAKES...”2 In Round Three of the match, Titania references the first battle on Battleworld. Chaotically, she slams a car onto She-Hulk.

To end the match, She-Hulk reminds Titania of a truism: The madder Hulk gets, the stronger he gets. After an explosion, She-Hulk holds Titania by the throat. Angry, she convinces the criminal to turn herself in and reform.

EXHIBIT B: “GREENIE” AND REVENGE (FEISTY)

In ‘She-Hulk’ (2005) #11, the She-Hulk/Titania rivalry plays for keeps. In the issue, the former Champion of the Universe has bestowed Titania with the Power Gem. Chiefly, it is for the purpose of revenge on She-Hulk. When the villain sees Champion can no longer re-claim the Power Gem, she drops a rock on him.

Then, she’s off to revenge. After thrashing the Excelsior Apartments, Titania destroys Timely Plaza. There, the powerhouse meets She-Hulk and Doc Samson. At the time, She-Hulk wore a Jupiter Suit in order to control her super powers. During the fight, Doc Samson is knocked out. “Really? From love taps like that?”3 Jennifer’s first thumping attack creates a bounce back. Once again, Titania starts a fight.

In 'She-Hulk' (2005) #11, Titania with the Power Gem fights She-Hulk to the finish.
In ‘She-Hulk’ (2005) #11, Titania with the Power Gem fights She-Hulk to the finish. AP Photo/Marvel Comics.

Ha. Trust me, honey, today I’m just full of possibilities.3 After a punch that rocked an explosion, Titania caught it full-on with ease. The phrase, perhaps an innuendo presaged Titania’s superiority and the dark turn of their rivalry.

Certainly, given their history, we can wonder whether the She-Hulk/Titania rivalry is a relationship. Particularly, we address this in Exhibit C. In many respects, She-Hulk and Titania play off each other very well.

“face it, Greenie.” These are Titania’s words before landing the final blow. With a stomp, She-Hulk loses consciousness and reverts to her human form.

Definitely, the rivalry is feisty. Here, Titania plays for keeps and with the Power Gem she has infinite super strength. In this battle, She-Hulk likely does not survive.

EXHIBIT C: EMPLOYMENT AND “GIRL” (FLIRTATIOUS)

In ‘Sensational She-Hulk’ (1993) #52, Titania seeks redemption from her criminal career. To begin, Mister Fantastic needs to examine She-Hulk. During a battle with War Zone, She-Hulk was sprayed with a gas. To this end, Reed sends Thing to collect Jennifer at Libido’s Boutique.

There, Mary MacPherran is applying for a job. However, she loses her temper when she is turned down due to her criminal past. When Titania starts destroying the place, Jennifer comes out of the fitting room to fight her. Then let’s get busy, shall we?4

“You’re such a pushover today, girl.”4 Here, the She-Hulk/Titania relationship gets more personal. In fact, dare we say more romantic? At Nerdist, Eric Diaz states later in their history, Jennifer even helped Titania set up a pawn shop. Though, it didn’t last. Of course, the two ladies are fighting in a lingerie shop.

On her first punch, She-Hulk comments that Titania may have gotten tougher. In fact, Titania even punches the heroine into Thing. Then, she throws her onto the streets of New York. When Titania has gained the upper hand, she stops and smells roses. Definitely, this is a flirtatious move by the powerhouse. In the end, it turns out She-Hulk has been losing her strength due to the gas.

STAN LEE’S FAVORITE VILLAIN

Doctor Doom was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Originally, the character first appeared in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 (1962) #5.

Interviewed by leukemia survivor KJ Ricci, Stan Lee revealed Doctor Doom is his favorite supervillain. The legendary writer said he does not see Doom as a villain and would like to clear his name.

THE POWER COSMIC

DOCTOR DOOM ABSORBED GALACTUS’ + TAA II’S POWER

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1985) #10, Doctor Doom steals Galactus’ Power Cosmic. Previously, Galactus absorbs the energy of Taa II. Possibly, Galactus with Taa II’s might equal the Beyonder in battle. However, using the Klaw discs, Doctor Doom siphons Galactus’ Power Cosmic.

In his new-found omnipotence, Doctor Doom’s senses expand. Really, Doom realizes his cosmic senses encompass all reality. Inside their cells, the Baron of Iron is aware of the villains’ secret thoughts and desires. Furthermore, he is aware of an intruder, Captain Marvel.

BATTLE AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE

Immediately, Doctor Doom battled Beyonder in the Beyond-Realm. Incredibly, the battle was so fierce that it sent shockwaves through space. In fact, Battleworld was feeling quakes as a result of the titanic battle.

However, Doctor Doom is soon overwhelmed by the Beyonder’s godly power. Desperately, the Destroyer beams an image of himself back to Battleworld. Before the assembled heroes, he asks for their powers. Hesitantly, Magneto steps forward. Quickly, he is tackled by Wasp, Hawkeye and Iron Man.

DOCTOR DOOM’S SUPREME WILLPOWER

DOCTOR DOOM DENIES DEATH

With his last ply thwarted, the tide of the battle turns against Doom. Courageously, Doctor Doom attempts to grow nearer. But, the Beyonder’s infinite power doubles his onslaught. Finally, in bursts of energy blasts, Doom’s legs are cut off and he is felled.

Tragically, the Baron of Iron feels the “cold embrace [of Mistress Death] seems imminent.”1 Defiantly, Doctor Doom rejects the Spectre. His words ring out: “Victor Von Doom must not die!”1

VICTOR VON DOOM STEALS THE BEYONDER’S POWER

With his foe defeated, Beyonder comes down to examine him. Intrigued, he peers through Doom’s life. Moreover, he dissects Doom apart, layer by layer. Proving his willpower is supreme, Doom resists the agonizing pain.

Soon, the Beyonder grows closer to his subject. Incredibly, Victor Von Doom reaches for the Beyonder’s disembodied energy. In the end, Doom steals the Beyonder’s infinite power.
