ENCHANTRESS AND POWER MAN DEFEAT THE AVENGERS

In Avengers (1965) #21, Erik Josten is in the Amazon jungle. There, the former Baron Zemo agent is digging through rubble for the entrance through his lab. Since he is a wanted criminal in Europe, he hopes to repeat the experiment that created the super-powered Wonder Man. In this way, he hopes to change his fate. As fate would have it, the mischievous Enchantress views Erik in a vision and departs to his aid. There, she appears to him in the lab. Mischievously, she promises to work the machine for him.

When he gains super strength, Enchantress seduces the newly-christened Power Man to destroy the Avengers. Soon enough, Enchantress creates illusions around the city of the Avengers destroying property. When Cap’ learns of their plot, he fights Power Man. But he is no match for the super strong enemy. Afterwards, each Avenger is defeated except for Scarlet Witch. In humiliation, the Avengers are caught for trespassing and soon disband.

IN CIVIL RIGHTS

THE HEROES OF EARTH SHOULD HAVE BANDED TOGETHER

In New Avengers: Illuminati (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms. After the Kree-Skrull war, Iron Man convenes a meeting. In attendance are Mister Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, King Namor, Black Bolt and Professor X. As matter of fact, Iron Man and the attendees recognize the war could have been averted. Indeed, it would if the different superhero teams had pooled resources and intel.

Despite their acknowledgements, the meeting highlights the differences among the various factions. For his part, Iron Man favors forming a delegation of superheroes to serve a united front against future threats. However, his idea is opposed by every other attendee, especially Namor. In some sense, Iron Man proves prescient as this move could have averted the major crisis to befall the Marvel Universe: Civil War. Though, the Illuminati forms.

In 'New Avengers: Illuminati' (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms.
In New Avengers: Illuminati (2006) #1, the Illuminati forms. Marvel Comics.

IRON MAN’S FUTURISM COULD HAVE PREVENTED CIVIL WAR

Forward in time, after House of M, the Illuminati convenes. Due to House of M, Professor X is absent. During the meeting, Iron Man informs them of important news. Recently, the U.S. government is planning on passing the Superhero Registration Act. As a result of House of M, 198 and Secret War, this is a likely development. Really, Tony explains how his mind and Reed’s work. As an inventor, industrialist and businessman, Tony is a futurist.

Hence, he is able to predict social trends and what people need. Correctly, he predicts what the New Warriors would later do in their quest for fame. Consequently, he advises the Illuminati to get onboard. However, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt and King Namor forcefully refuse. Only Mister Fantastic agrees. Though Tony’s views are extreme, they highlight the fact he was correct: Early on, the heroes of Earth should have formed a delegation. In the end, the Illuminati were a missed opportunity.

THE DIFFERENT TEAMS AT THE END OF HOUSE OF M

X-MEN

At the end of the story, Scarlet Witch uttered the spell “no more mutants.” Only 198 mutants remain on Earth. At Xavier’s Institute, Emma Frost finds out that many mutants are powerless. In the issue, the X-Men find a depowered Magneto in Genosha. About Wanda, here whereabouts are unknown.

NEW AVENGERS

At Avengers Tower, the memories of the New Avengers have been restored. In shock, Doctor Strange feels he has failed his duty to protect Earth. For his part, Spider-Man demands that Strange erase their memories of House of M. To which Doctor Strange declines. Unfortunately, the New Avengers face Hawkeye‘s apparent death.

House of M. Marvel Comics.

TIMES WHEN IRON MAN WAS CORRECT

AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED

In Avengers Disassembled: Chaos, the Avengers are attacked by a mysterious force. First, there is the resurrected Jack-Of-Hearts who attacks Avengers Mansion. Then Tony is inexplicably drunk without having a drink.

This leads to a violent outburst at the U.N. Then, Vision attacks the Avengers. Finally, She-Hulk brutally rips Vision apart. Correctly, Iron Man realizes that the attacks are connected. Though the Avengers disagree.

AVX

In AvX, Tony is correct twice. The first time, he correctly designs a Phoenix-Killer Armor. Powerfully, he detonates it on the moon. Though the Phoenix is destroyed, it splits into the Phoenix Five.

Later, Iron Man correctly deduces the reason for the Phoenix Force’s return to Earth. The Phoenix Force and Chaos Magic are like yin and yang. Indeed, the Phoenix returned because of Scarlet Witch’s “no more mutants.”

CIVIL WAR II

In Civil War II, Tony comes into blows with Carol Danvers. During an invasion by a Celestial Destructor, the Ultimates used information from an Inhuman. Namely, Ulysses provided information to save the day. When Captain Marvel wanted Ulysses to join the Ultimates, Iron Man opposed the decision.

Correctly, he questioned Ulysses’ mysterious powers, whether the future can be changed and the morality of pre-emptive strikes. Though conflict soon followed with several tragedies. Such as the deaths of War Machine and Hulk. After, there was a final battle between Iron Man and Captain Marvel. Apparently, Tony died. In the end, jumping between futures, Ulysses vanished to meet Eternity.

From the ashes of AXIS an all-new, all different Avengers assemble! The tragedy at the end of AXIS has left the Uncanny Avengers vulnerable, and someone is taking advantage of it. One of the Avengers oldest foes returns with a terrible secret that will, all hyperbole aside, shatter the lives of two members of the squad. What is Counter-Earth? What terrible secrets does it house?

Critically, ‘Uncanny Avengers’ (2015), is one of the best Uncanny Avengers stories. Together, the Avengers Unity Division travel to Counter Earth. To this end, they must unravel a secret that will shake their main protagonists.

Together, writer Rick Remender and Daniel Acuna collaborate on the story. Though serious and detached, the writing shines on big sci-fi concepts. In fact, the art in the book is futuristic and modern: linear, squared and fun. Moreover, Quicksilver vs High Evolutionary!

To begin, this comics revamps the origin stories of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Mysteriously, the Unity Division must travel to Counter Earth. Indeed, a new menace has arisen that threatens the Uncanny Avengers. In addition, the two protagonists discover they are the result of their father’s genetic experiments.

The comic is excellent for your collection. You will definitely love the muted color palette told in five to six panel layouts. This is the comic to own in order to build your Kindle and Comixology collection.

This product has excellent reviews and has 136 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.5 out of 5. There is a great satisfaction with the product.

One customer review said: “Anyone who has yet to check out the writing of Mr. Remender is missing out on one of the best writers in comics today. I’ve read just about everything he’s written since picking up his run on Uncanny X-force and have yet to be disappointed. In this volume he brings together the best of both sides of the marvel universe and shows people what can happen when humans and mutants work together. Anyone looking for something different from the run of the mill super hero comics out there needs to check this out.”

In addition, there are seven negative global ratings. One negative review cited Red Skull’s over-exposure: “Poor illustration and barely any actual team I interaction. Plus enough of the Red Skull already. I regret this purchase.”

Overall, this graphic novel was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • Kindle and Comixology formats available.
  • Good writing.

NEGATIVE:

  • Villain over-exposure.

To begin, “House of M” is the most important X-Men comic of the 2000s decade. In a few words, the comic runs through the Marvel Universe and brings together the Avengers and the X-Men. In fact, both teams are banded against the overwhelming threat of the Scarlet Witch.

This product has excellent reviews and has 1182 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.7 out of 5. There is a great satisfaction with the product.

One customer review said: “House of M revolutionizes the Marvel Comic World and, in a way, starts the X-Men series over again. While House of M does not move particularly quickly (not many flashy battle scenes), it certainly adds a lot of psychological depth to many familiar characters like Wolverine, Magneto, Quicksilver, Spiderman, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and a host of others, as we the readers witness what the world would be like if each mutant had their ideal life.”

The reviews were overall very positive with 26 negative reviews. A problem cited by a negative review was the lack of emotional resonance: “An absolutely dreadful example of the tedium that is Bendis’ writing. His trouble is simple: In the superhero genre, which is innately or (at least historically) one rooted in action, he too often eschews action to try to hit emotional, personal beats. Sadly, he displays no understanding of people and our emotions.”

Overall, this graphic novel was great.

  • Free purchase with Comixology Unlimited membership.
  • Excellent Customer Review Ratings.

NEGATIVE:

Suddenly, Tony’s programs signal a Phoenix flare on Earth. Soon, Captain America meets Wolverine at the Jean Grey School For Higher Learning. Despite his resistance, Cap recruits Wolverine. REBUILDING THE WORLD, THE PHOENIX FIVE TAKE AVENGERS PRISONERS

In ‘Avengers vs X-Men’ (2012) #6, the Phoenix Five begin world-building. Cyclops rebuilds Utopia, Magik ends war, Emma Frost destroys the Sentinels, Colossus destroys nuclear misssiles and King Namor removes nuclear submarines. Certainly, the Phoenix Five seem unstoppable. However, Captain America and the Avengers question their new-found omnipotence. Seeing the Phoenix Five as a threat, they commandeer a tactical mission to retrieve Hope Summers.

When Utopia is under attack, Scott’s adoptive granddaughter changes sides with the Avengers. Decisively, it turns the battle and shatters Cyclops’ humanity. On the Blue Area of the moon, Scott consults with Jean Grey created out of moon dust. From there, he decides to rid the world of the Avengers. Earlier, Scarlet Witch had a grim vision where the Phoenix Five annihilated the Avengers. Soon, that vision may come to pass.

WITH THE FULL POWER OF THE PHOENIX, CYCLOPS IS DEFEATED BY HOPE SUMMERS AND SCARLET WITCH

In ‘Avengers vs X-Men’ (2012) #12, occurs the final battle. Finally, Cyclops has attained the full power of the Phoenix while the other Phoenix Four have been depowered. In a titanic battle, Cyclops is omnipresent on Earth across time and space. Earlier, Tony reveals that the reason the Phoenix has been defeated by Scarlet Witch. Really, the Phoenix and Scarlet Witch’s Chaos Magic are like yin and yang. In fact, when Wanda said “no more mutants”, Phoenix said “more mutants.”1

During the battle, Hope and Scarlet Witch go toe-to-toe with Cyclops. In a final Iron Fist punch, Hope fells Cyclops. With Cyclops defeated, Hope claims the Phoenix. Sensing the urgency, Wanda helps her extinguish the Phoenix flame. At the same time, the Phoenix is used to recreate the mutant population on Earth. In the end, though homo superior survives, it is at great cost. Indeed, Professor X is dead, Cyclops is in custody, and the X-Men are divided among themselves. Visiting Scott in prison, Cap acknowledges his responsibility. Over the years, he did not work sufficiently for mutants’ civil rights and plans to set up the Uncanny Avengers.

VISION RECLAIMS THE IDENTITY OF THE ROBOTIC WORLD WAR II SYNTHEZOID THE HUMAN TORCH

In ‘Giant Size Avengers’ #4, Vision ponders his origin as he attempts to save Scarlet Witch from Dormammu and his sister Umar. The Vision discovered that he was not originally Ultron’s creation, designed by the android to infiltrate and dismantle the Avengers. After he turned on his master, The Vision struggled to accept that he was created by a super-villain. Instead, he was created in 1968 by Ultron-5 and Professor Horton who rebuilt the original synthezoid the 1940s Human Torch into the Vision.

Ultron’s goal was to create a “son” that would serve his evil “scheme[s].”1 Though Ultron-5 had created a new body, he had not altered the Human Torch’s mind. The new creation immediately attacked Ultron-5. Ultron-5 then turned on Professor Horton and killed him with a blast. The android showed feelings of care for the one he called “father” as he laid dying.1 When the android confronted Ultron-5 in rage, he was felled which resulted in altering his mind “re-programmed using the taped brain patterns of a dead Wonder Man…”1 The Vision was born!

IN A BATTLE TO THE DEATH, THE VISION CONFESSES HIS LOVE TO SAVE THE SCARLET WITCH FROM DORMAMMU’S HELLISH POSSESSION IN THE DARK DIMENSION

The Vision awakens from his gaze. He hears a scream and heads in the direction of the sound. He sees the spectacle of a hellish pit with Dormammu and his sister Urma holding his beloved, Scarlet Witch bound in chains on a sacrificing surface. The Vision has to save the Scarlet Witch to prevent Dormammu to reach his full power in order to conquer the Dark Dimension!

Dormammu asks the Vision to forget Scarlet Witch and leave. But Vision says it’s a bluff. Soon, demons appear in the shadows and fight. They hurl liquid fire at the Vision. The Avenger, however, grows intangible, then by “partial solidification”, he absorbs the “supernatural flame” and fires it as a solar blast using his solar gem.1

With the defeat of his demons, Dormammu sends the Vision’s very beloved against the Avenger. Urma testifying to this, states that even she “could devise nothing truly more evil than this!”1 “In blind obedience,” the Scarlet Witch attacks the Vision with a spell.1 She attacks the Vision with molten lava in order to bury him. However, the Vision solidifies and hardens like a diamond.

Seeing that the attack has not worked, Scarlet Witch, uses her organic powers on the earth element in order to create a boulder. The boulder hovers atop the Vision and lands upon him. Becoming intangible, the Vision rises above the stone and claims he can counter her “organic powers.” The Vision asks Scarlet Witch to remember him. Remembering his solar gem, Scarlet Witch begins to drain the Vision of his solar energy.

The Vision drained slowly of his solar energy admits Wanda’s magic has defeated him. He says she is killing him and begs of her to remember him. As the Vision falls to the floor to near death, he confesses his love for Wanda.

Seeing her beloved lying motionless on the floor, Scarlet Witch exclaims: “What have I done?” Speciesism is conquered and it is the love of a synthezoid for a mutant witch that conquers evil! The Vision’s love saves Wanda. The Scarlet Witch, free from Dormammu’s possession, promises to make him pay.

THE VISION, SCARLET WITCH AND MISS HARKNESS DEFEAT DORMAMMU AND UMAR

Dormammu and the Scarlet Witch do battle. As Dormammu attempts to cast a spell on Wanda, the Vision and Miss Harkness claiming he has grown stronger, “[he] feel[s] no effect!1 Miss Harkness appears and states the Scarlet Witch freed her when she became freed of Dormammu’s possession. Miss Harkness has cast a protection spell on the Scarlet Witch.

Using her organic powers “one final time”, the Scarlet Witch strikes at the lava’s heat to which Dormammu is bound in order to prevent his regeneration.1 Dormammu asks Urma’s aid but the Vision having been revived by the Scarlet Witch notes and strikes her humanoid form, unlike Dormammu who is a being of “pure force.”1 Urma writhes in pain.

Suffering loss, Dormammu admits defeat and asks of the Scarlet Witch what she wants. Scarlet Witch asks for Dormammu’s word that the Vision, Miss Harkness and her can return safely to Earth, safe from him and his sister; that he will free the Earth spirit; and that he will no longer seek to conquer the Earth’s dimension.

Dormammu gives her his word though he hides his true intentions from her. In thought bubbles, it is revealed that he made a similar pledge to Doctor Strange and he states he owes Scarlet Witch “only hatred.”1 Dormammu promises in his secret intentions to make her regret her trust.

WANDA AGREES TO MARRY THE VISION; THE AVENGERS ASSEMBLE FOR THE MARRIAGE AT IMMORTUS’ TEMPLE GARDEN

Scarlet Witch, the Vision and Miss Harkness are teleported back to Avengers Mansion. After Miss Harkness departs, Scarlet Witch and the Vision speak. Vision confesses his love for Wanda and explains that after they quarreled, he “lived a life without warmth.” When Mantis offered to be Vision’s partner, he felt nothing for her. He asks Wanda to marry him. Asked by Wanda if the Vision loves her because she was the first girl he met, the Vision explains that he loves her because he is an Avenger and she is the only one who can understand his life as an Avenger.

Now that the Vision knows his origin, he knows he was meant to live as a human and is willing to make Wanda happy. In some ways, it is his love for the Scarlet Witch that saves the Vision and helps him see clearly. Wanda agrees to marry the Vision. Soon, Immortus gathers Scarlet Witch and Vision at the Temple Garden. They announce to the Avengers their decision to marry. Iron Man and Thor are elated while Hawkeye is unsure. Still, the ceremony as well as the marriage between Mantis and Swordsman (Cotati) are celebrated. This is the proof that love can conquer even speciesism and unite different species.
