WHAT IS GOTG 3?

This week-end, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 (2023) releases with excitement and fan celebration. As the thirty-second installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film is premiering with positive reception. On Rottentomatoes, the film has an aggregate score of 78 percent.

Despite its positive reception, the movie makes some faux-pas. Let’s list the reasons why the change of Warlock’s comic origin story lessens its impact.

FILM: THE SOVEREIGN

In one significant change, the film changes Adam Warlock's origin story. From the events of GOTG 2 (2017), the High Priestess of the Sovereign named Ayesha creates Adam Warlock to get revenge on the Guardians of the Galaxy. Importantly, Warlock is also a Sovereign.

In another change, Warlock in his FIRST APPEARANCE is a weapon on a mission to kill the Guardians. Indeed, in his first battle against the heroes, he nearly kills Rocket. Later, the team has to find a way to heal the Racoon.

COMICS: HIM

In Fantastic Four (1967) #66, Adam Warlock makes his first appearance as Him. In fact, the Enclave creates the humanoid as the perfect human. However, without experience, Him soon turns on his masters. Later, he gains the Soul Gem in Marvel Premiere (1972) #2, from the High Evolutionary and becomes Adam Warlock.

After the Infinity Gauntlet, Warlock became supreme but had to release his omnipotence. Later, he entrusted the Infinity Gems to the Infinity Watch. Our fan theory is that in the movie, his joining of the Guardians of the Galaxy is meant to prepare for Magus, his evil alter ego from the future.
