In our new hotness, we have The Best Sellers List. Here, we cover the greatest battles of a particular character in a comic or series, and how it made it a best-seller. In our new sensation for December, is Silver Surfer in the Marvel classic Essential Silver Surfer, Vol. 1 (Marvel Essentials).

THE CREATIVE TEAM

Namely, the creative team on the story arc is legendary. In a few words, award-winning writer and thespian Stan Lee and the incredible artist John Buscema collaborate on the series.

For his part, the writer is known for the creation of our favorite Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. In fact, Stan Lee is a legend who has made cameos in the MCU movies.

Nonetheless, when both superstars collaborate on this work, you expect a legendary take on classic superheroes. In fact, the creative team shook the Marvel universe!

A POPULAR SPACE OPERA

When Lee created Silver Surfer, he wanted to create a god and his fallen angel. Previously, the omnipotent entity Galactus comes to Earth in The Coming of Galactus in order to destroy it as The Devourer of Worlds.

Certainly, the storyline answers some questions about the Silver Surfer and his solitary banishment on Earth. Though classic heroes such as Spider-Man, Thor and the Fantastic Four crossover, the comic evidently popularized the Marvel space opera.

ICONIC FIGHTS

Importantly, Silver Surfer (1968) #4 is notable for the first battle of Silver Surfer vs Thor. In one of the greatest covers of all-time, John Buscema pitted both superheroes over a manipulation by the God of Mischief, Loki.

Though the issue resolves their disagreement with a battle field removal, the Sentinel of the Spaceways returns to a world that is hostile to him. At its height, the series shows some of the classic elements of Western tragedy and drama.

SALES, SALES, SALES

Really, Essential Silver Surfer has sold incredibly over the years. In fact, according to Comichron, it was ranked fourth on the best-selling graphic novels for February 1998 with 5,488 Diamond unit sales.

Though its yearly performance was not impressive in comparison to other Marvel series. Let’s compare to the other comics in February 1998.
