AT BASE LEVEL, SILVER SURFER IS A COSMIC BEING

Silver Surfer (1968) #1. Marvel Comics.

This month, our Hot Take is Silver Surfer #AscendstoSkyfather in Annihilation. With his communion to the universe with the Power Cosmic, we think Silver Surfer can match your Mystic personality. For more Hot Takes to find your hero, click on Mystic highlighted in gray.

Let’s start from the Silver Age.

During the Silver Age, Marvel Comics introduced two characters who would change the Marvel status quo. In the Galactus Trilogy, legendary editor Stan Lee created Galactus and his herald Silver Surfer. In the momentous story, the Watcher would aid the Fantastic Four to defeat the space gods.

Importantly, Silver Surfer debuted in his solo series with Silver Surfer (1968) #1. After turning against his master, the fallen hero was banished by Galactus to Earth and unable to live his space-faring adventures.

Moreover, Lee and Buscema popularized the Marvel space-opera, where Norrin’s melodramatic soliloquies often ended with cosmic battles and unrequited love. At the same time, it was clear that in terms of Power Hierarchy, Silver Surfer was a Cosmic Being who could achieve any effect and rival the likes of Thor and Hulk.

For a time, Silver Surfer was imprisoned to Earth by Galactus’ space barrier until Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four helped him. Read our review to find out about Essential Silver Surfer Vol. 1. Find your hero that matches the Mystic personality.

OVERPOWERED, SILVER SURFER CAN CREATE A BLACK HOLE

Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006) #1. Marvel Comics.

Notably, Galactus has endowed his herald Silver Surfer with the Power Cosmic, which grants him vast powers to manipulate the universe’s forces and laws on a cosmic scale. Usually, Norrin Radd ranks Cosmic Being in the Power Hierarchy.

In Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006) #1, the Sentinel of the Spaceways showcased why he is the top energy manipulator in the Marvel Universe. In a battle against Annihilus’ Seekers on Xandar, Silver Surfer creates a black hole in order to escape and save Air-Walker.

Really, Silver Surfer showcased a Galaxy-Level of Energy Projection. In fact, he showed the power of astral phenomenon creation, as his black hole engulfed Xandar with the Power Cosmic.

Among his super powers are: super strength, hyper speed, invulnerability, flight, cosmic senses, a healing factor, teleportation, intangibility, telekinesis, matter manipulation, energy projection, energy absorption, time travel and dimensional travel. Later, we will see why he ascends to #Skyfather.

IN ANNIHILATION, SILVER SURFER ASCENDS TO SKYFATHER

Annihilation (2006) #1. Marvel Comics.

In Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006) #4, Silver Surfer begins his ascent to Skyfather-Level. With the threats of Tenebrous, Aegis and Annihilus, Silver Surfer agrees to become Galactus’ herald once again. Moreover, Galactus gives the herald a power increase.

Certainly, Silver Surfer’s power increase is significant but not sufficient to save both cosmic gods from Annihilus. At the same time, we see later that Silver Surfer #AscendstoSkyfather in his battle against Tenebrous and Aegis, two Proemial gods.

In the current issue, the hero destroys Ravenous and his Seekers sending them back to Annihilus. Definitely, Annihilation Silver Surfer is at least Multi-Galaxy-Level in Energy Projection.

WHY SILVER SURFER IS AN OVERPOWERED BEING

ANNIHILATION SILVER SURFER ABSORBED THE ENERGIES OF THE BIG CRUNCH TO DEFEAT PROEMIAL GODS

Amazingly, one of the Sentinel of the Spaceways’ most well-known feats during Annihilation, is his fight against two Proemial Gods. Notably, Proemial Gods derive their powers from the Big Crunch, the end of the universe.

In Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus (2007) #2, Silver Surfer defeats Tenebrous and Aegis. Initially, no match for the two gods, Silver Surfer lays in space badly wounded.

Then, he elects to absorb the energies of the Big Crunch. Soon, he fells his foes. Fortunately, Galactus arrives and heals Surfer who is near death.

Considering the Big Crunch is the end of the universe, we can state that Annihilation Silver Surfer has Universal-Level of Energy Projection.

IN HIS FIGHT AGAINST KNULL, SURFER CREATES A STAR TO SEED THE BIG BANG

In Silver Surfer: Black (2019) #5, Silver Surfer proves he can challenge an Abstract-Level being. When the hero ends up in a black hole, he travels to the Big Bang.

Horribly, the hero must save Galactus and stop a threat that threatens to destroy the Marvel Universe at the beginning. When Silver Surfer faces Knull and his army of Klyntar, it is an epic battle between Light and Darkness.

Incredibly, Ego the Living Planet helps the hero with a power increase in order to defeat the villain. However, Silver Surfer is contaminated by Knull’s darkness.

In their final battle, the hero creates a star to drive the darkness away and seed the Big Bang with life. And a new Marvel Universe is created.

Per our calculations, Silver Surfer performed a Universal-Level of Energy Projection to match the energy of the Cosmic Background Microwave Radiation.

ENERGY PROJECTION FEAT: UNIVERSAL

Energy Projection: Universal 83%

AT BASE, SILVER SURFER CAN DEFEAT THE FANTASTIC FOUR

In Fantastic Four (1974) #155. Marvel Comics.

In 1997, Wizard #70 released its Top 10 Toughest Superheroes. Importantly, the Silver Surfer was at the top of the ranking citing the Power Cosmic and his nobility.

In Fantastic Four (1974) #155, Doctor Doom uses Shalla Bal to manipulate Silver Surfer into fighting the Fantastic Four, with the Inhuman Medusa in the line-up.

Though the FF put up a good fight, the Silver Surfer’s superior strength and power ends in his victory. When the hero is about to kill the team, he relents and tells them about his predicament.

With the Power Cosmic, Silver Surfer is nearly a match for any super-powered teams. At his best, he can decimate galactic armies, cosmic beings and gods.
