Originally, K’un Lun is one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven in the Marvel Universe. Importantly, it figures prominently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, with appearances in The Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist shows, some misconceptions remain. Let’s list five myths about K’un Lun in comics, and TV.

Specifically, K’un Lun is known with the popular title as one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. Under the leadership of Lei Kung, the Thunderer they train warriors to protect the city from The Hand and other other-worldly threats.

In the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update ’89 (1989) #4, we learn that K’un Lun was setup in pre-history. In 1,000,000 BC, aliens crashlanded in a pocket dimension. After, the pocket dimension and Earth would align. Later, the city of K’un Lun was created with the remains of the ship by the 100 survivors atop the Himalayas.

Perhaps, a correct myth. In The Defenders (2017) Season 1 episode 5, Elektra mentions K’un Lun. As a place of enlightnment, the city appears on Earth every 15 years. At that time, it may welcome students and visitors.

In reality, the comics reveal that the city appears nearly every century. In Immortal Iron Fist (2007) #8, the Seven Capital Cities organize a tournament to decide the alignment. Normally, it takes 88 years. With the Great Jade Crystal, the cities can appear often.

From the Iron Fist show, it appears the dragon Shou-Lao the Undying makes the city immortal. Indeed, after Danny Rand becomes Iron Fist and defeats the dragon, it may signal the city’s departure.

In reality, the dragon has been reborn 66 times in the source material. As matter of fact, the city survives the dragon and Yu-Ti revives it by placing its heart in molten fire in a cavern.

Really, this myth is incorrect. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when Danny Rand returns to the Himalayas, he finds the blood of Hand ninjas. In fact, K’un Lun has disappeared. Perhaps, it was due to the attack by Hand ninjas.

Moreover, the Hand ninjas are former students of K’un Lun banished from the city. Importantly, they seek the Resurrection Elixir to grant immortality. Certainly, this is against the teachings of The Order of the Crane Mother in K’un Lun.

In both Marvel comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Danny Rand defeats Shou-Lao and becomes the Iron Fist. Though he leaves K’un Lun in the show, this myth needs explanation. In the television show, Danny sees a hawk flying down the Himalayas and sees it as a sign that he should return to New York.

In the comics, Danny is motivated by revenge. In fact, he seeks to avenge his parents’ deaths at the hands of Meachum. In effect, Yu-Ti banishes him. Though, as Iron Fist, he must return as the protector of K’un Lun.
