‘W.I.L.D.C.A.T.s.’ (1992) #1 SHOOK THE COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY
WHO ARE THE W.I.L.D.C.A.T.s.?
We are introduced to the concept of the Kherubim and Daemonites, two ancient alien races who have been at war for millennium and brought that war to earth thousands of years before. The Kherubim were immortal, very powerful, and human in appearance who breed with humans over the years creating super powered beings known as half-breeds in the process. The Daemonites are body snatchers by nature and inhabit key beings of power, such as their current leader Helspont who inhabits a powerful alien body. So by 1992 these two races had used Earth as a battleground and the war was ramping back up again.-“The WildCats: From The Beginning To The Wildstorm,” TC

IN GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY
TAO, A FORMER WILDC.a.t.s. AGENT, TRICKS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT INTO TRAVELING TO THE BLEED LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT
In ‘Coup D’Etat: Sleeper’ (2004) #1, the U.S. government follows the conspiracy of Tao in order to conquer the Bleed. Following a mission by Agent Carver and Misery at a secret U.S. base, the U.S. government retrieves a device. In reality, it was an elaborate set-up by Tao, a former WILDC.A.T.s. who orchestrated the covert operation.
Realizing that the device can actually help them travel the Bleed, they send a probe into space. However, per Tao’s knowledge, the device “was powered by a tiny black hole.”1 Upon reaching the Bleed, the black hole became unstable and the probe exploded. The accident tore “open an enormous hole in the Bleed” and destroyed a shiftship.1
THE AUTHORITY TAKES OVER THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AFTER IT CAN’T CONTAIN THE DISASTER IN FLORIDA
In Florida, the Authority are on the scene. Hawksmoor sends telepathic readings of a ship breaching the Bleed. Swift thinks it’s a meteor shower. However, Apollo realizes that it’s not a meteor shower, it’s giants. Swift identifies that it’s a shiftship six times bigger than the Carrier with hundreds of hull breaches.
Its crew are giants falling to the Earth like meteors. Midnighter says they have about 10 minutes until the shiftship lands on Earth, a collision worse than the meteor that extinguished the dinosaurs. The Doctor cannot affect the shiftship with his magic so he stretches out time. The Authority uses doors to evacuate the population of Florida. But that is not enough. The ship hits Florida and millions die.
Florida has been turned into an archipelago with Key West. Aboard the Carrier, the Engineer informs Hawksmoor that the Giants are an extra-dimensional race, from a universe billions older than the Wildstorm universe. They are known as the Vigil and they are the first species to use the Bleed. They collect information and observe the multiverse.
The shiftship was headed for the Gathering, when “all new knowledge is collected to their planet.”1 The Vigil have never gone to war and it is unclear what their response to the catastrophe would be. Later at night, the Authority makes an announcement on a jumbotron, Hawksmoor declares the Authority are going to take over the U.S. government.
SPARTAN WARNS THE AUTHORITY AS TO THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS
In ‘Coup D’Etat: Wildcats’ (2004) #1, former WILDC.a.t.s. members intervene in the U.S. government conspiracy. Members of the HALO Corporation, Jack Marlowe (Spartan), Edwin Dolby and Grifter are concerned over recent events. The wheelchair-bound Grifter recruits Edwin Dolby for a mission. Together, they head to a former supervillain, now weapons dealer codenamed Warmaker. Grifter first attempts to woo Warmaker in order to retrieve a weapon. Sensing that there is no money involved, but rather an exchange, Warmaker shoots Grifter.
Grifter evades from his wheelchair, and shoots Warmaker in the head, killing him. Then, he calls Dolby and together they head behind the bookcase in Warmaker’s study. They find a massive negative gamma particle. Grifter tells Jack his plan: He plans to have Jack teleport the WMD into the Bleed to trigger a singularity and send the Authority to a parallel universe. Jack does not agree to Grifter’s plan and says the Authority’s conspiracy is likely temporary. Later, Jack appears on the Authority’s carrier in hologram form. They have an argument and taking the form of Spartan, he warns them of the consequences of their actions.

WITH CONTROL OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT, THE AUTHORITY FACES AN ALIEN INVASION BY THE VIGIL
In ‘Coup D’Etat: The Authority’ (2004) #1, the Authority have to contend with the consequences of the government conspiracy. The Authority have taken over the U.S. government: NORAD is under their control, they have disabled nuclear weapons, the NAVY has been de-commissioned, the Engineer disabled the Air Force and the Army. The Authority has dismantled the U.S. armed forces in six hours. World leaders are in disarray and officially endorse the Authority.
Suddenly, the Vigil invade Earth. Hawksmoor orders the Carrier to start teleporting people out of Times Square similarly to the procedure in Florida. Hawksmoor, Apollo and Engineer head to Times Square, the Doctor heads to the White House and Midnighter has to negotiate the President’s resignation. The Authority arrive in Times Square and do battle. Apollo flies through the Vigil “faster than a speeding bullet.”2 Hawksmoor negotiates the Vigil’s surrender. Finally, the whole team is teleported aboard the Carrier with the President.
They are showing video footage of the President’s attempt to conquer the Bleed. The Vigil comment on humanity’s potential for destruction and state they have not engaged in combat in 500 Earth years. The Engineer informs the Vigil that the Authority downloaded 60% of their shiftship’s data before it was destroyed. Asked what can prevent humanity from being a threat to the multiverse, Apollo incinerates President Kent with his heat vision. The Vigil calls the Authority “savages.” Then, they depart for the Bleed.
Swift remarks that President Kent was actually manipulated by outside forces. The Engineer says she manipulated the footage to place guilt on President Kent in order to ensure that the Vigil would stop their invasion of Earth and leave. Swift questions the decision and states that the Authority never compromises. At night, Hawksmoor proclaims the Authority as the new U.S. government. His first order of the day is to suspend democratic elections. After the broadcast, Midnighter asks what they do next.

IN DC MULTIVERSE
CAPTAIN ATOM LANDS IN THE WILDSTORM UNIVERSE
In ‘Captain Atom: Armageddon’ (2006) #1, Captain Atom lands in a parallel universe in the DC multiverse: the Wildstorm Universe to presage the Worldstorm. The issue opens with Captain Atom flying the Composite Superman/Batman robot into space in order to bomb a Kryptonite asteroid.
On the way, Captain Atom remembers being placed in another cockpit with the Dilustel metal set to explode on an atomic bomb. Captain Atom had the choice of either remaining in a military prison for life or doing the experiment. Captain Atom remained in the capsule for twenty-three years.
Despite his misgivings, Captain Atom’s sense of duty drove him to become a superhero. This illustrates the fact that patriotism is part of every hard working person and that the nation always benefits from offering each person, even ex-cons a chance at redemption. Captain Atom states: “I’ve got a job to do.”
The Composite Superman/Batman robot blows up with the Kryptonite asteroid. Captain Atom awakens startled back in Tokyo with Superman and Batman. Then, he is sent to another universe like a comet through the sky. He arrives in New York City as Nikola Hanssen being created into Void by a man opening a box containing Void.

SHOWDOWN AT THE WHITE HOUSE: CAPTAIN ATOM VS MISTER MAJESTIC!
In ‘Captain Atom: Armageddon’ #3, Captain Atom visits the White House after a fight and a conversation with Mister Majestic at Mount Rushmore. Startled by the Wildstorm Universe, Captain Atom struggles to understand the brutality of its superheroes and the fear people have of them. He wants to return to his parallel universe in the DC multiverse. In some sense, it is the paranoia of contact with parallel universes that seems to question of our very individuality.
Is Captain Atom experiencing this paranoia, as the people react to the presence among them of a superhero with fundamentally different physical dimensions. At the White House, Captain Atom faces a nuclear strike which he evades. He speaks to the President and tells him he is a military man. Captain Atom says he needs the President’s help to return but the President states he fears and answers to the superheroes.
As he leaves the White House, Captain Atom is intercepted by Majestic. They have another scuffle. At the end of the battle, with no decisive winner, Majestic reveals to Captain Atom: The Nightmare Equation. That is, Captain Atom’s presence is going to lead to the Worldstorm of a parallel universe of the DC multiverse: the annihilation of the Wildstorm Universe.
Captain Atom goes to the Pentagon in order to confirm Mister Majestic’s computer simulations. He taps into the Pentagon’s data bank and is able to confirm Mister Majestic’s Nightmare Equation: the Worldstorm. As Captain Atom returns to the Washington Monument damaged during his second battle with Mister Majestic and now being repaired by Mister Majestic’s nanobots, the WILDC.A.T.s come on the scene.
SHOWDOWN AT THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT: CAPTAIN ATOM VS THE WILDC.A.T.s.!
In ‘Captain Atom: Armageddon’ #4, Captain Atom is intercepted by the WILDC.A.T.s. at the Washington Monument. Its members are: Maul, Voodoo, Warblade and Zealot. As they face their foe, the WILDC.A.T.s play a game of who can think of the least number of movies so that he/she can take on Captain Atom. Reverting to his smaller more intelligent form, Maul wins the game.
Maul increases his mass and punches Captain Atom through the ground into the underground subway. Looking at his files, Captain Atom identifies his weakness and decreases Maul’s mass; then, he punches him back to the surface. Next, Voodoo uses her control of magnetism and telepathy to “to tell [his blood] to rip your veins to pieces.”1 Captain Atom uses the data he has downloaded from the Pentagon to overload Voodoo’s telepathy.
Warblade goes on the offensive and quickly slices Captain Atom with his sharp blades. Captain Atom responds by blasting him. Finally, Zealot fights Captain Atom. Captain Atom decides to reason with Zealot but she does not listen. Then, he decides to end things. He blasts Zealot. However, Zealot blocks it with her sword and attacks him. She proves to be the superior fighter and soon has Captain Atom on the ground.
As Zealot is about to kill Captain Atom, he remembers a gas main in the underground subway. Captain Atom blasts it creating an explosion that knocks out Zealot. Grifter and Nikola Hanssen arrive on the scene. As Grifter changes into costume and is about to take on Captain Atom, a door takes Captain Atom. He is teleported to the moon and a mysterious woman greets him. She is impressed by his super powers and invites Captain Atom to show him about “real power.”1
THE WORLDSTORM IS AVERTED! … OR IS IT?
In ‘Captain Atom: Armageddon’ #6, Captain Atom finally has help to avert the Worldstorm. Angie by orders of Hawksmoor, befriends Captain Atom and acquaints him with the Authority’s brutal methods to deal with tyranny and crime on Earth. Mister Majestic aboard The Carrier with Hawksmoor and the Doctor doubts the former’s plan to deal with the Worldstorm.
Angie the Engineer reports to Hawksmoor on their mission. She receives orders from him to proceed with removing the Void signature from Captain Atom. Angie asks for Captain Atom’s permission to solve his “problem.”2 He remembers Mister Majestic’s advice to not trust anyone, but decides to not heed it. The Engineer attaches herself to Captain Atom’s body and deletes the Void signature at the atomic level.
Back at the WILDC.A.T.s.’ base Grifter finds out the truth from Jeremy. Jeremy tells Grifter that Void and Captain Atom both have the Void signature. However, Void has “enough to tip the balance.”2 In fact, Void and Captain Atom should be in the same vicinity, or else in this parallel universe of the DC multiverse, Worldstorm might occur in the Widlstorm Universe. Then, Grifter realizes she is missing. Nikola closes her eyes then she finds herself at the place where she got her Void powers.
Captain Atom finds her there and says he came back to the place because he felt a connection to the place. He remarks maybe she did too. Captain Atom feels relieved meeting her since “you’re not wearing a cape, you’re not shooting laser beams from your eyes or turning your fingers into razors.”2 Captain Atom feeling she is an average human touches her left shoulder. Nikola says “Wait! Don’t…”3 Then an explosion. Nikola turns into Void.
‘ARMAGEDDON’: THE WORLDSTORM IS HERE! VOID RESCUES CAPTAIN ATOM
In ‘Captain Atom: Armageddon’ #9, Apollo and Midnighter bring Captain Atom by force onboard the Carrier. It is a fight between the Authority and Captain Atom, highlighting the sort of physical conflict resulting from the presence of different dimensional beings from parallel universes in the DC multiverse. Captain Atom attempts to reason with Hawksmoor.
However, Hawksmoor notes that if Captain Atom is killed the Worldstorm is started, and if Captain Atom is not killed the Worldstorm still starts later. But, Hawksmoor explains that according to the Doctor’s time travel to the future, the Wildstorm Universe does survive the death of Captain Atom. Apollo, eager to get revenge on Captain Atom for giving him a near fatal dose of solar energy in a nuclear reactor he created, attacks Captain Atom with laser beams. The Worldstorm is here!
The Worldstorm has started. Hawksmoor asks Apollo to absorb Captain Atom’s nuclear energy before the chain reaction is critical, however, he is not sure if Apollo can survive it. Apollo attempts to absorb the energy only to be incinerated. Midnighter laments the death of the man he loves. He attacks and gets incinerated by Captain Atom. Captain Atom states that the Authority can no longer stop the process. Hawksmoor orders the Doctor to free Mister Majestic from his time freeze. Jenny the spirit of the 21st century arrives and also gets incinerated.
Before the Worldstorm starts, Nikola finally accepts her Void persona and her WILDC.A.T.s. connection to the new dead Grifter. When the Worldstorm starts, Void races to the Bleed to help Captain Atom in order “to become whole again.”3 She arrives on the Carrier and does the impossible. Void removes the Void signature from Captain Atom and states: “Finally. I’m whole.”3 Then she says: “Nathaniel… Go home.”3 As Captain Atom is transported back to his parallel Earth in the DC multiverse, he states: “Thank you.”3 Then, Void asks everyone to watch a new Wildstorm Universe end, while a new one begins.

IN WILDSTORM COMICS
In ‘WildC.A.T.s’ (1992) #1, we are introduced to Spartan and the WildC.A.T.s which stands for Wild Covert Action Teams. The team consists of Spartan its leader, Ladytron, Zealot, Warblade, Voodoo, Maul, Grifter, Backlash and Nemesis. The team was put together in order to combat the threat of the Daemonites.
In galactic history, there was a colossal conflict between two races, the monstrous Daemonites and the humanoid Kherubim. Two ships, one piloted by each of these races, crashed on Earth after a dogfight between the two, and the aliens attempted to integrate with the natives. In recent times, the Kheran Lord Emp formed a Covert Action Team to fight against Daemonite activities on Earth.– Wildcats (Wildstorm Universe), DC Database
Early on, the WildC.A.T.s’ enemies were the Daemonite Lords Helspont and Hightower. They also have allies such as the Kherubim hero Mr. Majestic, Savant and Huntsman.
SPARTAN’S ORIGIN STORY AND HIS BIO-ANDROID BODY
Spartan was born Yohn Kol, a Kherubim and a member of the Pantheon class on Khera. Yohn was trained as a warrior from the time of his birth. He was well respected as a war lord and the Spartan Guards were created in his honor.
Yohn’s ship crash landed on Earth during the war between the Kherubim and the Daemonites. To blend in, Yohn adopted the name John Colt and served the U.S. army as a super soldier. His superior Kherubim physiology did not grant him the super powers of Mr. Majestic, being mainly an above average human. Becoming a super soldier, Spartan eventually joined Team One.
During a missile attack by the Daemonite Helspont, John sacrificed himself by ordering Mr Majestic to use his laser vision on him and the Daemonites surrounding him. John apparently died in the effort.
John survived, however, thanks to the efforts of Emp. Emp copied Spartan’s personality and memories and downloaded it into Spartan’s bio-android body. In the 1990s, Emp would start the team known as the WildC.A.T.s with Spartan as its leader.
Bio-Android Body: As a bio-synthetic humanoid, Spartan has been upgraded several times. Spartan is made from highly advanced Kherubim technology and is possibly one of the most sophisticated machines in the universe.– Yohn Kohl (Wildstorm Universe
Spartan’s bio-android body grants him the ability to interface with technology. He is able to wirelessly connect to computer systems and alter them.
Technopathy: Spartan could wirelessly connect with any computer system and bend it to his will. He could even link up to telephone lines and answer phone calls or radio transmissions via WiFi in his networking. After the world’s end event, Spartan’s interfacing ability was largely diminished now he could only make machine contact with telephone and radio transmissions and could only control the few remaining Spartan guards which survived Armageddon.– Wildcats (Wildstorm Universe), DC Database
Spartan’s bio-android body allows him use in different intel situations such as the ability to reconstruct fight scenes1 or in combat situations such as the ability to calculate an opponent’s speed, precise location and point of impact.2
