Drawn from Earth across the stars, the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes and villains are set against one another by the mysterious and all-powerful Beyonder — with the winner promised the ultimate prize! But as battle lines are drawn, new alliances forged and old enemies clash, one among them is not willing to settle for anything less than godhood. Can even the combined might of the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men prevent Doctor Doom from becoming the most powerful being in the universe? Now, the greatest super hero war of all time is collected alongside an untold chapter of Thor’s time on Battleworld, Titania’s incredible origin, and “What If?” tales that offer very different endings to the Secret Wars!

COLLECTING: Secret Wars (1984) 1-12; Thor (1966) 383; She-HULK (2004) 10; What If? (1989) 4, 114

Critically, Secret Wars Omnibus is the greatest Marvel comic of all-time. In fact, the company-wide crossover tells the story of the cosmic god Beyonder‘s orchestration of a battle royale between the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Avengers, Spider-Man vs the Wrecking Crew, Galactus, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Lizard, Doctor Octopus and Enchantress on Battleworld.

Together, writer Jim Shooter and artist Michael Zeck collaborate on the 12-issue comic. Really, the writing shines on the struggle between good and evil. Indeed, the art in the book is the brightest of the COPPER AGE of comics: panoramic, muscular and colorful.

Indeed, share this comic to fans of Comic-Con, Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Definitely, it is worth its price and will leave you wanting for more Beyonder! And Doctor Doom!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND SCORES

To begin, Secret Wars Omnibus is the first company crossover in Marvel history. Indeed, it’s the greatest comic of all-time in terms of popularity, financial success and impact on continuity. In fact, Marvel Studios plans to adapt the comic in Phase 6 of its movies.

Really, the comic is perfect for all ages and its straightforward tale of good heroes against evil villains to entertain a cosmic god, will appeal to adults and children. Also, witness Doctor Doom’s great moment as he attempts to steal the Beyonder’s power!

The comic is good for your Marvel collection. You will definitely love Michael Zeck’s thin lines, the quick story-telling, and the colorful panels. This oversized omnibus brings together beautiful illustrations that bring the story to life.

This product has 8 global ratings with an average customer review rating of 4.5 out of 5.

POSITIVE REVIEW

The customer review said: “With this edition, all that has changed. The oversize format lets the illustrations breathe. The intense, full color scheme brings everything to life.”

NEGATIVE REVIEW

There is 1 negative global rating. The negative review commented on the poor plot: “Corny dialogue (ok, let’s put the blame on the eighties), hundreds of characters, a really silly plot, stupid villains, dumb heroes… I strained throughout the pages of this monstruosity, and realized that, after all, it was no surprise that marvel kept doing these horrible crossover events during the nineties, if this is what passed for reference… go read something else or buy it, if you have trouble sleeping.”

Overall, this comic was great.

CONCLUSION

POSITIVE:

  • First Marvel company crossover.
  • Successful franchise.
  • Straightforward plot.

NEGATIVE:

  • Not enough customer review ratings.

OUR PRODUCT REVIEW RATING:

I recommend this Copper Age comic as the greatest Marvel event of all-time.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

DC VS MARVEL

DEATH BATTLE!

IN SUPERVILLAINS

THE SMARTEST HUMANS AT DC AND MARVEL

*Let’s commemorate the 82nd anniversary of Lex Luthor’s FIRST APPEARANCE.

In January, we ranked the formidabilities in a potential Darkseid vs Thanos battle. And we looked at the characters in continuity at their highest powers: Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet and Darkseid with the Anti-Life Equation.

In February, we compared both characters to find out who is the better villain. Now, this month, we compare two other A-list villains at DC and Marvel to find out who is the better villain.

At DC and Marvel, Lex Luthor and Doctor Doom are definitely the two smartest humans in their respective universes. For his part, Lex Luthor has planned world domination while Doctor Doom has conquered the power of God on multiple occasions.

To this end, we have come up with a villainy score that compares both characters in eight categories: Sales, Origin Story, Character Evolution, Cast, Quality Opponents, Villainy, Power, Popularity. Before we compare our villains let’s list some rules.

  1. The Villainy Score is rated out of 8 points.
  2. For Doctor Doom, we list only the Earth-616 continuity and for Lex Luthor Post-Crisis, Post-Flashpoint and Rebirth.
  3. Since we are comparing Sales and Popularity, we include the villains’ performance in other media and their Google Search Results.
  4. For Power, we list their highest achievements across Earth-616, Post-Crisis, Post-Flashpoint and Rebirth continuities.

So, let’s compare Lex Luthor and Doctor Doom in the villainy department.

VILLAINY SCORES

Lex Luthor. DC Comics.

VILLAINY SCORE: 5

SALES

For sales, Lex Luthor outperforms Doctor Doom. In the comic medium, it appears the Metropolis businessman lags behind the Baron of Iron.

In 2005, Lex Luthor: The Man of Steel #1 ranked 38 in unit sales on the Top Comics of March 2005. At the same time, Lex Luthor performs very well as POTUS in Our Worlds at War whose first issue ranked 19th in unit sales and sold 59157 issues on the Top Comics of July 2001.

In animation, SUPERMAN: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited have created the best portrayals of Lex Luthor. And to this day, Michael Rosenbaum remains the most celebrated version of Lex Luthor with Smallville. And the Total Estimated Domestic Video Sales for the series is $151,375,254.

In the movie department, the controversial BATMAN v Superman movie still gave us a more significant live-action adaptation than Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Overall, BvS earned $855 million internationally.

Doctor Doom. Marvel Comics.

VILLAINY SCORE: 3

SALES

Though Doctor Doom stars in more event comics with prominent roles, he performs less than his counterpart in the different media.

In 1984, Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars ranked as Marvel’s first company-wide crossover event and the top-selling comic year-long with 250000 copies sold. In 2015, Doctor Doom becomes God-doom in Secret Wars whose first issue ranked 1st in unit sales with 527618 sold on the Top Comics of May 2015.

With animation, the Spider-Man: The Animated Series and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have created the best portrayals of Doom. However, very few portrayals have had the lasting impact that his counterpart has had.

In the movie department, the controversial live-action adaptation of Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was not successful. Overall, FF earned $289,480,691 internationally.

DOCTOR DOOM’S FIRST APPEARANCE IN FANTASTIC FOUR (1962) #5 IS COLLECTED IN ESSENTIAL FANTASTIC FOUR, VOL. 1 (MARVEL ESSENTIALS)

ADVANTAGE: DOCTOR DOOM

CHARACTER EVOLUTION

In many respects, Lex Luthor is definitely one of the most interesting character at DC Comics.

Post-Crisis, his motivations have centered on either destroying Superman’s reputation or besting him through his lackeys. What makes Lex Luthor work is that he genuinely believes himself to be humanity’s savior by virtue of his superior intelligence.

During Dark Nights: Death Metal, Lex may have finally become good. In fact, he proved why he is the smartest human in the DC multiverse by creating the weapon in the World Forge that created Truth Incarnate WONDER WOMAN.

CHARACTER EVOLUTION

In addition, Doctor Doom has shown he is Marvel’s Greatest Villain. Really, during the first Secret Wars, he stole Beyonder’s power becoming the Supreme Being of the Universe.

Similarly, Doom believes himself to be humanity’s savior. In Doomwar, he has beheld a potential future where he is Earth’s ruler.

However, like other Marvel villains, Doctor Doom ultimately knows he is not fit for ultimate power. Hence, his flaw proves his undoing in the end.

CAST

Really, this is where Lex Luthor truly separates himself.

Indeed, as a businessman and the smartest man on DC Earth, Lex Luthor has proven a better leader. In fact, he showed how an A-list supervillain can legally become the President of the United States.

From Lexcorp, to the Injustice Gang, to the United States, even Darkseid and Perpetua, Lex Luthor is an expert at making deals.

During Our Worlds At War, he won even Superman to his cause in order to stop Imperiex.

CAST

Tragically, Doctor Doom has remained a conflicted figure. As a conqueror and world leader, he leads the sovereign nation of Latveria.

Incredibly, Doom commands a religious following and his people actually love him.

In addition, he has sought companionship often in treacherous ways though he has remained single-minded. Effortlessly, Doom could conquer the world, however, it would take manipulation and deception.

During Avengers: Emperor Doom, Doctor Doom realizes that world conquest is an illusion.

ADVANTAGE: LEX LUTHOR

QUALITY OPPONENTS

For the most part, Luthor is at a disadvantage. Indeed, most of his opponents are Cosmic Beings.

At the same time, Justice League: Darkseid War showed Lex Luthor can take on Gods or Abstracts.

QUALITY OPPONENTS

For the most part, Doctor Doom more or less ties Lex Luthor in this department.

Secret Wars showed that Doom’s Quality Opponents are properly Gods or Abstracts. In fact, Beyonder may be the God of the Marvel multiverse.

ADVANTAGE: TIE

VILLAINY

In this department, Lex Luthor may have foreshadowed the greatest evil. However, his humanity shows he can be redeemed.

With the Worlogog, Lex Luthor created an alternate future where Darkseid imposed the Anti-Life Equation on DC Earth. In a sense, this may have contributed to Final Crisis.

In Dark Nights Metal, Luthor joined forces with Perpetua who re-made the multiverse in her image. However, he redeemed himself by supplying the weapon for Truth Incarnate Wonder Woman’s victory.

VILLAINY

In this department, Doctor Doom is pure evil. In fact, he cannot be redeemed. Indeed, his faith in magic is only a masquerade for his lust for power.

In Doomwar, Doom used the purple Man to possess the will of all humans on Earth. On mutiple occasions, his lust for power caused him to steal the power of the Silver Surfer, the Watcher and Galactus.

In Secret Wars, GodDoom rules Battleworld having stolen the Beyonders’ powers. Even here, Doom’s inner darkness makes him a powerful villain.

ADVANTAGE: DOCTOR DOOM

POWER

With his Universal-Level Class, Lex Luthor with the Omega Effect in Darkseid War has a score of 71.5. Though his lack of Teamwork with the JLA limits his potential. His Formidability rating is Metahuman.

To note, Lex Luthor with the Omega Effect is less powerful than Darkseid with the ALE. Which explains how he could not defeat Anti-Monitor. In fact, it takes the ALE to stand a chance though AM is at least as powerful as Darkseid with ALE.

SCORE: 71.5

FORMIDABILITY: METAHUMAN

Class: Universal 84%
Weakness: None 100%
Quality Opponents: Abstract 100%
Limitations: Teamwork 67%

POWER

Though God-Doom in Secret Wars is Nigh-omnipotent in Class, his Hubris and Power Dependency on Molecule Man, give him a score of 71. His Formidability rating is Metahuman.

To note, God-Doom is about as formidable as Thanos with the IG. Which explains how Black Panther was able to go toe to toe with him in Secret Wars (2016) #9. Though Doctor Doom was likely toying with him.

SCORE: 71

FORMIDABILITY: METAHUMAN

Class: Nigh-Omnipotence 100%
Weakness: Hubris 50%
Quality Opponents: Abstract 100%
Limitations: Power Dependency 92%

ADVANTAGE: LEX LUTHOR

POPULARITY

Generally, Lex Luthor is more popular in the comic medium. In the Post-Crisis continuity alone, he boasts 789 Appearances.

However, Google Search Results yield 12,500,000 results.

POPULARITY

In order for Doctor Doom to match his popularity, we must add the Baron of Iron’s 841 Appearances to his 218 Minor Appearances.

As the winner, Google Search Results yield  98,100,000 results.

ADVANTAGE: DOCTOR DOOM

VERDICT:

Though Doctor Doom operates on a higher scale, Lex Luthor proves to be equally intelligent and a far more human villain.
Lex Luthor wins.

And that’s our ranking!

SHE-HULK’S AND TITANIA’S BRIEF ORIGIN STORIES

SHE-HULK’S SOLO DEBUT

In ‘Savage She-Hulk’ (1980) #1, She-Hulk makes her first sensational debut. To begin, Bruce Banner is on the run from the police. In the issue, he has come to seek Jennifer Walters’ help. Fearfully, Bruce confides his secret to his cousin. Learning he is the JENNIFER WALTERS BECOMES SHE-HULK

On the way, Jennifer is shot by Trask’s men. Frantically, he takes her to a doctor’s office. Unfortunately, there is no one available at the door and Bruce breaks in. Quickly, he performs a blood transfusion since they are the same blood type. Later, at the hospital, Jennifer is attacked by three of Trask’s henchmen. Overcoming chloroform intoxication, Jennifer transforms into… She-Hulk. Then, she is in hot pursuit of Trask’s men later capturing them.

TITANIA’S BACK STORY

In ‘She-Hulk’ (2005) #10, we learn about Titania’s back story. In space, an alien visits the Watcher named Zoma. Strangely, he wants information on Titania. In fact, he requires it in order to destroy their common enemy: She-Hulk.

BORN MARY MACPHERRAN

Surely, Zoma tells him Titania was born prematurely in Denver, Colorado. As a result, she was born tiny with stunted development. Indeed, her real name is Mary McPherran. Over the years, Mary developed fantasies about prince charming and fairy tales. Entering the public school system, her classmates rejected her for being small and “puny.”1 Only Marsha Rosenberg accepted her who was made fun of because of her weight.

MARY MACPHERRAN BECOMES TITANIA

As an adult, Mary fantasized about her friends’ successful lives. When she discovered comic books, she fantasized about gaining superpowers and getting revenge on her enemies. In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1984) #3, Mary and Marsha were transported to Battleworld by Beyonder. There, they were granted super powers by Doctor Doom. To sum, Mary became Titania and Marsha became Volcana.

ON BATTLEWORLD, THE RIVALRY BEGINS

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1984) #3, the Wrecking Crew bring an ominous present to the heroes. More to the point, it is the near-lifeless body of the Wasp. Frantically, She-Hulk brings her to Zsaji for healing. Despite her gifts, Zsaji is unable to heal Wasp. Horrified, Hawkeye pronounces her dead.

As the heroes contemplate fighting back, Captain America warns them of a Galactus attack. On her own, She-Hulk goes to seek revenge. At Doombase, She-Hulk makes short work of the Wrecking Crew. Then, the Avenger meets Titania. Defiantly, Titania believes herself a Titan and the strongest. When she meets She-Hulk for the first time, she tests her super strength against her match.

EXHIBIT A: MAYHEM AND “CUDDLES” (FLIRTATIOUS)

In ‘Solo Avengers’ (1989) #14, Jennifer Walters is at the Supreme Court arguing aginst the Mutant Registration Act. Suddenly, she is interrupted by a man who tells her she is urgently needed. Recognizing Avenger business, Court goes into recess.

While she changes into costume in a phone booth, a police officer holds off a crowd of onlookers. Excited, the officer takes a peek. To this, she reacts by noting that all men are pigs. Outside, She-Hulk finds her playmate, Titania. Angrily, Titania is thrashing a car and spelling her name.

“Hi, Cuddles.”2 To begin, She-Hulk greets the powerhouse with a tap on her right shoulder. Indeed, She-Hulk/Titania matches are plenty of playful banter. In some sense, the two powerhouses flirt in order to size up one another.

Next, as the pair exchanges a question and answer, She-Hulk lands a punch that sends Titania flying before she can finish her sentence. Really, the punch packed a wallop landing the villain across the Potomic in Virginia.

“FIRST TIME WE MET, BABYCAKES...”2 In Round Three of the match, Titania references the first battle on Battleworld. Chaotically, she slams a car onto She-Hulk.

To end the match, She-Hulk reminds Titania of a truism: The madder Hulk gets, the stronger he gets. After an explosion, She-Hulk holds Titania by the throat. Angry, she convinces the criminal to turn herself in and reform.

EXHIBIT B: “GREENIE” AND REVENGE (FEISTY)

In ‘She-Hulk’ (2005) #11, the She-Hulk/Titania rivalry plays for keeps. In the issue, the former Champion of the Universe has bestowed Titania with the Power Gem. Chiefly, it is for the purpose of revenge on She-Hulk. When the villain sees Champion can no longer re-claim the Power Gem, she drops a rock on him.

Then, she’s off to revenge. After thrashing the Excelsior Apartments, Titania destroys Timely Plaza. There, the powerhouse meets She-Hulk and Doc Samson. At the time, She-Hulk wore a Jupiter Suit in order to control her super powers. During the fight, Doc Samson is knocked out. “Really? From love taps like that?”3 Jennifer’s first thumping attack creates a bounce back. Once again, Titania starts a fight.

Ha. Trust me, honey, today I’m just full of possibilities.3 After a punch that rocked an explosion, Titania caught it full-on with ease. The phrase, perhaps an innuendo presaged Titania’s superiority and the dark turn of their rivalry.

Certainly, given their history, we can wonder whether the She-Hulk/Titania rivalry is a relationship. Particularly, we address this in Exhibit C. In many respects, She-Hulk and Titania play off each other very well.

“face it, Greenie.” These are Titania’s words before landing the final blow. With a stomp, She-Hulk loses consciousness and reverts to her human form.

Definitely, the rivalry is feisty. Here, Titania plays for keeps and with the Power Gem she has infinite super strength. In this battle, She-Hulk likely does not survive.

EXHIBIT C: EMPLOYMENT AND “GIRL” (FLIRTATIOUS)

In ‘Sensational She-Hulk’ (1993) #52, Titania seeks redemption from her criminal career. To begin, Mister Fantastic needs to examine She-Hulk. During a battle with War Zone, She-Hulk was sprayed with a gas. To this end, Reed sends Thing to collect Jennifer at Libido’s Boutique.

There, Mary MacPherran is applying for a job. However, she loses her temper when she is turned down due to her criminal past. When Titania starts destroying the place, Jennifer comes out of the fitting room to fight her. Then let’s get busy, shall we?4

“You’re such a pushover today, girl.”4 Here, the She-Hulk/Titania relationship gets more personal. In fact, dare we say more romantic? At Nerdist, Eric Diaz states later in their history, Jennifer even helped Titania set up a pawn shop. Though, it didn’t last. Of course, the two ladies are fighting in a lingerie shop.

On her first punch, She-Hulk comments that Titania may have gotten tougher. In fact, Titania even punches the heroine into Thing. Then, she throws her onto the streets of New York. When Titania has gained the upper hand, she stops and smells roses. Definitely, this is a flirtatious move by the powerhouse. In the end, it turns out She-Hulk has been losing her strength due to the gas.

STAN LEE’S FAVORITE VILLAIN

Doctor Doom was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Originally, the character first appeared in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 (1962) #5.

Interviewed by leukemia survivor KJ Ricci, Stan Lee revealed Doctor Doom is his favorite supervillain. The legendary writer said he does not see Doom as a villain and would like to clear his name.

THE POWER COSMIC

DOCTOR DOOM ABSORBED GALACTUS’ + TAA II’S POWER

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1985) #10, Doctor Doom steals Galactus’ Power Cosmic. Previously, Galactus absorbs the energy of Taa II. Possibly, Galactus with Taa II’s might equal the Beyonder in battle. However, using the Klaw discs, Doctor Doom siphons Galactus’ Power Cosmic.

In his new-found omnipotence, Doctor Doom’s senses expand. Really, Doom realizes his cosmic senses encompass all reality. Inside their cells, the Baron of Iron is aware of the villains’ secret thoughts and desires. Furthermore, he is aware of an intruder, Captain Marvel.

BATTLE AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE

Immediately, Doctor Doom battled Beyonder in the Beyond-Realm. Incredibly, the battle was so fierce that it sent shockwaves through space. In fact, Battleworld was feeling quakes as a result of the titanic battle.

However, Doctor Doom is soon overwhelmed by the Beyonder’s godly power. Desperately, the Destroyer beams an image of himself back to Battleworld. Before the assembled heroes, he asks for their powers. Hesitantly, Magneto steps forward. Quickly, he is tackled by Wasp, Hawkeye and Iron Man.

DOCTOR DOOM’S SUPREME WILLPOWER

DOCTOR DOOM DENIES DEATH

With his last ply thwarted, the tide of the battle turns against Doom. Courageously, Doctor Doom attempts to grow nearer. But, the Beyonder’s infinite power doubles his onslaught. Finally, in bursts of energy blasts, Doom’s legs are cut off and he is felled.

Tragically, the Baron of Iron feels the “cold embrace [of Mistress Death] seems imminent.”1 Defiantly, Doctor Doom rejects the Spectre. His words ring out: “Victor Von Doom must not die!”1

VICTOR VON DOOM STEALS THE BEYONDER’S POWER

With his foe defeated, Beyonder comes down to examine him. Intrigued, he peers through Doom’s life. Moreover, he dissects Doom apart, layer by layer. Proving his willpower is supreme, Doom resists the agonizing pain.

Soon, the Beyonder grows closer to his subject. Incredibly, Victor Von Doom reaches for the Beyonder’s disembodied energy. In the end, Doom steals the Beyonder’s infinite power.

PER IGN: MARVEL’S GREATEST VILLAIN

IGN’S TOP 100 COMIC BOOK VILLAINS OF ALL TIME

In 2009, IGN counted down the Top 100 Comic Book Villains Of All Time from both DC and Marvel comics. The list features some of the best villains in the two universes such as Magneto, Thanos, Black Adam and Joker. The list even ranks our own Doctor Doom.

On the list, Doctor Doom ranked number three. In 2019, IGN would rank Doctor Doom as the greatest Marvel villain of all time citing his supreme arrogance and lust for power. Let’s look at reasons why this is the case.

Doctor Doom.
Doctor Doom. AP Photo/Marvel Comics.

ORIGIN STORY

Doctor Doom’s origin story is one of tragedy and crime. Victor von Doom was born to gypsy parents. His mother dealt in the dark arts. Tragically, a bargain with Mephisto went awry and the demon claimed Victor’s mother’s soul. Victor studied magic in Latveria then science in America to reclaim his mother’s soul.

Victor Von Doom, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm studied at State University, New York. Apparently, Ben may have been responsible for Victor becoming Doctor Doom. Combining magic and science, Victor’s experiment failed and his face was scarred. Donning armor and mask, he became… Doctor Doom.

CHARACTER MOTIVATION

What makes Doom a great villain is the fact that he originally was not a villain. His dedication to saving his mother is understandable though the means he uses are abhorrent. In many respects, Doom is a product of his upbringing: tortured, lonely and violent.

Doom’s central motivation is his belief that the world can find peace only under Doomworld. In many respects, this is the belief of all tyrants which shows that Doom’s belief actually stems from those tragic circumstances that developed his lust for power. Why is Doom’s Marvel greatest villain? He has conviction and unmatched willpower.

Doctor Doom’s story is that of tragedy and crime. AP Photo/Marvel Comics

VILLAIN OR ANTI-HERO?

Early stories showcase Doctor Doom as an exclusive Fantastic Four villain. IGN even considers him a fifth member of the Fantastic Four as its necessary antagonist. What makes Doom an interesting villain are his motivations. Ultimately, though he always seeks ultimate power as his goal, his purposes are always devious.

Of course, his final goal is world domination but his methods are infinite. As head of state of Latveria, Doom uses the vast resources at his disposal to do war against the Fantastic Four and Marvel Earth. In some portrayals Doctor Doom has allied himself with the forces of good to face a common enemy. In “Infinity Gauntlet,” Doctor Doom even allied himself to the heroes who banded together to fight Thanos. However, it is always for a devious purpose.

POWERS: SCIENCE AND MAGIC

Doctor Doom is one of the most brilliant minds on Marvel Earth, rivaling Mister Fantastic in scientific expertise. A rarity, Doom has managed to unite both science and magic, upgrading his armor with spells, cosmic energy and other sources of power. What makes Doom so dangerous is his skill in both departments and his viciousness, since he is willing to go to any lengths in order to further his power.

Multiple times, Doctor Doom has succeeded in achieving ultimate power. Doctor Doom managed to steal the Beyonder’s power and become the Supreme Being of the Marvel Universe. In the “Avengers: Emperor Doom” storyline, Doom became the benevolent Emperor Doom who succeeded in bringing peace on Earth with the Purple Man’s psycho-prism. In the “Secret Wars” EVENT, Doom stole the Beyonders’ power again, this time, to re-make reality in his image. Indeed, a feat not even Thanos has achieved.

Power Level Explained: Is Pre-Retcon Beyonder The God Of The Marvel Multiverse?

IN POWER LEVEL EXPLAINED

The Beyonder may be the most mysterious entity in the Marvel cosmic hierarchy. Is he a god? A cosmic being? A Cosmic Cube? Let’s look at the reasons why Beyonder may be the closest version to Marvel’s God!

“I AM FROM BEYOND”

When ‘Secret Wars’ (1984) exploded into the pages of Marvel comics, it was the first crossover EVENT in Marvel continuity. From the first pages, the Beyonder claimed to be “from beyond.”1 He made a tempting proposition to the heroes and villains.

In 'Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars' (1984) #1, Beyonder introduces himself to the heroes and villains in majestic fashion.
In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1984) #1, Beyonder introduces himself to the heroes and villains in majestic fashion. AP Photo/Marvel Comics.

In casual fashion, the Beyonder then went on to destroy a galaxy and rebuff Galactus and Doctor Doom. He created Battleworld out of the remains of nearby planets where heroes and villains would battle in order to win their hearts’ desires. Who is this Beyonder?

In reality, the Beyonder stems from the Beyond-Realm.

Read on!

The Beyond Realm was originally a being known as the Beyonder it was an infinite realm beyond the Marvel Multiverse (or Omniverse), and was the sum of everything outside the multiverse and that the Marvel Multiverse (or Omniverse) was a drop in the sea compared to the Beyond-realm. Making it infinitely bigger than the known Marvel Multiverse (Or Omniverse) at this time it is believed Here, that the Beyonder (Originally) is/was the all-powerful God, Creator, Ruler, and Inhabitant. He is everything and everyone in this realm as everything is him. His mere thought became reality anything he dreamed of was his and his alone with him in this Plane of Existence it would be utterly nothing.

WHY PRE-RETCON BEYONDER IS MARVEL’S GOD

HIS POWER IS IMAGINATION

In 'Secret Wars' (1985) II, Beyonder contemplates whether to destroy the Marvel multiverse.

In ‘Secret Wars’ (1985) II, Beyonder arrives on Earth. His purpose is to investigate the human feeling of desire. He is met with incomprehension and conflict follows with Earth’s heroes and villains. In one issue, Beyonder contemplates destroying the Marvel universe and everything in it. As he thinks, his thoughts cause universal disturbances. This shows Beyonder’s power is imagination.

PRE-RETCON BEYONDER SEEKS HOMAGE

In 'Secret Wars II' (1985), the Beyond controls animate life and inanimate objects to pay him homage.

In ‘Secret Wars II’ (1985), Beyonder extends his control to inanimate and animate life. Controlling every molecule and atom on Earth, Beyonder wants all things to pay him homage. How divine is that?

PRE-RETCON BEYONDER CAN DESTROY THE MARVEL MULTIVERSE

In 'Secret Wars II' (1985), Beyonder kills Death.
In ‘Secret Wars II’ (1985), Beyonder kills Death. AP Photo/Marvel Comics.

In ‘Secret Wars II’ (1985), Beyonder shows an impressive display of power. In front of the Magistrati, he gives Death a potion that kills her. An impressive feat since Death constitutes the semi-covered face of Living Tribunal and represents Vengeance. Furthermore, none of the Magistrati intervene to prevent this death, fearing Beyonder’s power. Finally, Death herself is a Multiversal entity.

DESTINED TO RULE THE WORLD

In “Doomwar”, Doctor Doom manages to steal the Vibranium from T’Challa’s Vibranium Vault. Before he can claim what his heart truly seeks, Doctor Doom must pass a test. He must prove to the god Bast that he is truly pure of heart. Uncannily, Doctor Doom does pass the test.

Doctor Doom opens his soul and shows Bast he has faith. With his sorcery, he has peered into millions of possible futures and has seen that the only future where humanity is at peace, is Doomworld. Perhaps, Doctor Doom is pure evil.

SORCERER SUPREME CONTENDER

Few beings on Marvel Earth are equally adept at science and magic. Using sorcery and tech, Doctor Doom lives in both world. A super-genius, Doctor Doom once contended for the title of Sorcerer Supreme against Doctor Strange.

In ‘Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph & Torment’, Genghis tests the most powerful sorcerers on Earth for the title of Sorcerer Supreme. In the trial, it comes down to a final showdown between Doom and Strange. Ultimately, Doctor Doom fails the trial and only for Doctor Strange to use his astral form free Genghis’ spirit from his crystal and to be declared Sorcerer Supreme.

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1985) #10, Doctor Doom stole Galactus’ and Taa II’s power in order to battle Beyonder. In the Beyonder’s Realm, it was a hopeless battle. Finally, Doctor Doom was defeated.

Miraculously, in a contest of willlpower, Doom resisted the Beyonder’s dissection, overpowered him, and stole his power. For a short while, Doctor Doom became the Supreme Being of the Marvel Universe.

Doctor Doom fought the Beyonder in the Beyond realm using the energy of Taa II. Doctor Doom was defeated and survived dissection by the Beyonder. Using his willpower, Doctor Doom overpowered Beyonder and stole his power.

Let’s estimate Doctor Doom’s willpower.

DOCTOR DOOM’S WILLPOWER

Doctor Doom has one of the strongest willpowers in the Marvel Universe. He has peered into millions of futures and he believes Doomworld is the only future where there is peace on Earth. In ‘The Avengers: Emperor Doom,’ Doctor Doom kidnaps the Purple Man in an attempt to mind control the whole Earth. In a duel, with the Purple Man, Doctor Doom resists the Purple Man’s mind control powers with his willpower alone.

In ‘The Avengers: Emperor Doom,’ in a duel, with the Purple Man, Doctor Doom resists the Purple Man’s mind control powers with his willpower alone.

Since Doctor Doom withstood Purple Man’s mind control whose powers were used to mind control the Earth, Doctor Doom’s willpower is at least Inventor.

In ‘Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars’ (1985) #10, Doctor Doom uses his willpower to steal the Beyonder’s power. In the scans, after Doctor Doom has stolen the Beyonder’s power and appears as a giant to the heroes, he claims to be the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe.

We will use these two examples to estimate Doctor Doom’s willpower.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

In the first example, since Doctor Doom resisted the Purple Man’s mind control, which was later used to mind control the Earth, his willpower is at least Inventor. Willpower is a function of mental power, so let’s calculate the power of Doctor Doom’s mind. Please refer to the Intelligence Scale.

Bytes Of Information In Doctor Doom’s Brain = (7,874,965,825 humans)(2.510*10^15 bytes)/(1 human) = 1.9766164*10^25 bytes.

In the second example, Doctor Doom overpowered Beyonder with his willpower, or the power of his mind. Since after stealing Beyonder’s power, Doctor Doom became the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe, we can estimate that his intelligence is at least equal to the Beyonder’s intelligence.

INTELLIGENCE

Since in the What If story, Doctor Doom was able to withstand the Purple Man’s mind control, it would seem his Intelligence Level is Mathematical Computation. However, in the second example, since Doctor Doom is able to overpower a true godlike being and become the Supreme Being in the Marvel Universe, his Intelligence Level is Universal.

Doctor Doom had to generate a Universal Level of Intelligence in order to overpower Beyonder with his willpower.

In the previous universe, Galan lived on Taa. Upon surviving the destruction of his home universe, Galan incubated in a Cosmic Egg merging with the Sentience of the Universe. Emerging from the Cosmic Egg, he was observed by a Watcher who realized the tremendous power the nascent Galactus possessed to feed on the living energy of planets but the Watcher decided not to kill Galactus.

Sensing his hunger, Galactus consumed the nearby planet of Archeopia.

Read on!

After emerging from his incubation cube millions of years after the Big Bang, Galactus consumed the nearby planet Archeopia; this was the first world to fall prey to his insatiable hunger. Galactus felt compelled to create a monument to his dead homeworld Taa, which existed in the previous universe, and to the ravaged planet Archeopia.

Galactus used the remains of Archeopia as the raw material from which he created the enormous Taa II. Construction took millennia to complete, due to Galactus’s need to take breaks in search of sustenance. When it was completed it engulfed the entire Archeopian System.

Galactus intended Taa II to surpass any natural world in size, beauty and splendor. Based on accounts from the few beings to step foot in it, such as Mister Fantastic, Galactus easily met his goal.

Indeed, Taa II is so massive several planets and even a star are held captive by its gravitational pull.
