Superman has been turned into the Anti-Living by the Anti-Life Virus. Faced with overwhelming odds at the arrival of the Green Lantern Corps, Superman heads for the sun. Superman absorbs Sol condemning the solar system to grow cold and die.

We will use the lifetime of the sun in order to calculate the energy projection of Superman.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

Superman absorbed Sol causing the yellow sun to collapse and turn supernova within a minute. According to Homework 7 : Sunshine & Sunspots, the fusion process normally converts 0.7 percent of the mass of the sun to energy and uses 10 percent of its mass. In Superman’s case, since the process took about a minute, the fusion process used 100 percent of the sun’s mass.

Let’s calculate the amount of energy in the supernova.

E = mc2 = (0.007)(2*10^30 kg)(3*10^8 m/s)^2 = 1.26*1045 J.

Superman absorbed the energy of Sol, triggering a fusion process that caused Sol to go supernova within a minute.

Superman generated 1.26*1045 J of energy. Superman had to generate a Multi-Galaxy Level of Energy in order to absorb Sol.
