THE STRONGEST MARVEL COSMIC BEINGS HAVE POTENTIAL TO CREATE A COSMOS
![]() |
This month, in our Hot Take is Living Tribunal as the strongest in the Top 10 Marvel Cosmic Hierarchy with The One Above All not included. Let’s explain the hierarchy in the Marvel Universe.
In the Marvel Universe, the cosmic hierarchy is composed of cosmic beings, universal entities, living forces and skyfathers. Cosmic power appears primarily to be a super power possessed by station, nature, cosmic accident or evolution. In particular, powers such as the Power Cosmic or the Power Primordial are energies of the universe that the oldest races of the Marvel Universe are born with or possess. By our standards, the cosmic beings display the potential to create a new cosmos. This list ranks them according to their cosmic power or power level.

1. LIVING TRIBUNAL

In the Marvel cosmic hierarchy, Living Tribunal is the Multiversal Judge and is second to The One Above All. In fact, Living Tribunal, may judge the Omniverse. In DC Versus Marvel (1996) #2, the Living Tribunal and Spectre become aware of each other’s multiverse. When both universes are threatened by the Brothers, the Living Tribunal and Spectre merge DC and Marvel in the Amalgam Universe. READ DC Versus Marvel: the Amalgam Age Omnibus: The Amalgam Age Omnibus.

2. PRE-RETCON BEYONDER
![]() |
In The Beyonder Vs. The One-Above-All: Who Is Marvel’s Supreme Being?, Kevin Melrose argues Beyonder may be Marvel’s God. A multiversal entity that was everything in the Beyond Realm, his status was ret-conned in Secret Wars III to a Cosmic Cube.
In Secret Wars II (1985-1986), Pre-Retcon Beyonder visits Earth and learns about humanity. In Secret Wars II #6 (1985), Beyonder shows his omnipotence and destroys the abstract known as Death.
Considering that Death is a face of the Living Tribunal called Vengeance and it cost Beyonder half his power, it would take at least two Beyonders to destroy Living Tribunal. Definitely, this is an Omnipotence feat.

GOD
3. KNULL

After the Sixth Cosmos, Knull arises in the Marvel multiverse as the God of Darkness. Before the Celestials created Light in the Universe, Knull existed as Darkness. And forging his Necrosword, he killed a Celestial. Later, he waged war against Light with his army of Klyntar and was stopped during King in Black (2020-2021).
POWER HIERARCHY:
GOD
4. PHOENIX
![]() |
In the cosmic hierarchy, it is stated that the Living Tribunal fears the Phoenix Force. In fact, the fiery bird is a cosmic entity representing the cycle of rebirth and destruction of the Universe.
In Super-Villain Classics (1983) #1, we learn the origin of Galactus, the face of Living Tribunal that represents Equity. When the Sixth Cosmos was coming to an end, Phoenix saved Galan of Taa in a cosmic egg to give birth to the Seventh Cosmos. After eons, Galan emerged from the egg as Galactus.
Considering the Seventh Cosmos gave birth to the Marvel multiverse till Secret Wars (2015), Phoenix can definitely create a Cosmos.

5. ETERNITY

In Thanos Annual (2014) #1, a future self shows Thanos the updated Marvel cosmic hierarchy. In his quest for universal conquest, the Mad Titan sees his place in the cosmos.
Importantly, we see Eternity’s and Infinity’s place among the Universal Abstracts and cosmic entities. Indeed, Eternity is himself the embodiment of the Marvel multiverse and time.
In Infinity Gauntlet (1991), it is Eternity that Thanos conquers in order to become Supreme. Though Eternity is not Omnipotent, he is the Cosmos.

6. DEATH
![]() |
In Under-Appreciated Heroes/Villains: In ‘Marvel: The End,’ #WeDefendThanos’ Sacrifice As Non-Canon, we explained Thanos’ sacrifice in the alternate storyline.
Importantly, after Death kisses Thanos, the Mad Titan restores the universe and erases himself. Indeed, Death in the cosmos is a multiversal entity that seeks to kill all life.
Though she is not omnipotent, she represents an Abstract aspect of the forces of the universe.

7. CELESTIALS
![]() |
In a new retcon, Secret Wars (2015) introduced a new race of Beyonders responsible for the destruction of the Seventh Cosmos. Though King in Black (2020-2021) showed the Celestials had a role in the creation of the multiverse.
Importantly, the Celestials are a race of hyperspace beings who were responsible for creating the Infinity Gems and experimenting, seeding and judging worlds with life, races and civilizations.
Considering their virtually limitless power, the Celestials are space gods on par with the Lord Chaos/Master Order.

8. MOLECULE MAN
![]() |
In 10 Marvel Villains With Way Too Many Powers, CBR. lists Molecule Man at position 2. Indeed, Molecule Man is a Cosmic Cube whose powers have rivaled the Pre-Retcon Beyonder.
Importantly, Molecule Man with the powers of the Beyonders, Franklin Richards and Mister Fantastic created the Eighth Cosmos with the end of the Ultimate Universe after the incursions.
Though not properly an Abstract or God, he ranks Skyfather on our list with power greater than Galactus.

9. MASTER ORDER/LORD CHAOS
![]() |
In Infinity Gauntlet (1991) #5, the Magistrati faced Thanos in an astral conflagration. In our Metropolis Battles: Thanos vs The Cosmic Entities (Villain vs Team), we rated the Magistrati as Multiversal+ in Energy Projection.
Considering their combined powers, Master Order and Lord Chaos both keep the balance in the universe.

10. GALACTUS
![]() |
In an article, ScreenRant claims Galactus at full power may be Marvel’s most powerful villain. Though Galactus was killed by Herald of Thunder Thor, in Thor (2020) #6. Later, he was resurrected by the Destroyer.
With the Power Cosmic, Galactus may defeat a Celestial at full power. Though, his durability depends on whether he is fed or hungry.
Considering his Multiversal potential and his importance to the Seventh Cosmos, Galactus is definitely an Abstract though not a rival to the Beyonders nor Molecule Man.
