At DC and Marvel, Superman and Hulk are the top two powerhouses in terms of super strength. Previously, we showcased five feats where Superman demonstrated the potential for infinite super strength. At the same time, Hulk has shown on many occasions feats of infinite power. Over the years, flaming wars have raged over who is the stronger: the Last Son of Krypton or the Green Behemoth. Indeed, if Superman has near-limitless strength, the madder Hulk gets, the stronger he gets. Though they are in the same strength class, let’s list five reasons why Superman may be stronger.

5 REASONS WHY SUPERMAN IS STRONGER THAN HULK

5. GREATER WILLPOWER

In Action Comics (1987) #589, Superman increases the GL energy beam by 20 percent with his willpower.

To begin, one of Superman’s greatest strengths in his fights is his willpower. Despite overwhelming odds, Superman never backs down but continues fighting. Over the years, it has been explained that Superman has some of the strongest willpowers in the DC Universe. At one point, Superman was a candidate to receive a Green Lantern ring. In Action Comics (1987) #589, Superman and the Green Lanterns fight a mount of dirt. In an assault, Superman adds his willpower to the GL beams, increasing it by 20 percent.

Though Hulk also has unbelievable willpower. However, in most incarnations, he lacks the corresponding intelligence. And in a battle against such a savage foe, willpower is everything.

4. STRONGER ENEMIES

Notably, this argument is debatable. Indeed, Hulk regularly meets with top-tier and cosmic-level foes. Some of them include the U-Foes, Abomination, High Evolutionary, Silver Surfer, Thor, Sentry, Galaxy Master and even Marvel Zeus. However, Hulk has suffered from low-quality opponents. Due to his baseline strength being lower, Hulk has had trouble with street-level opponents. For example, Spider-Man once knocked out Hulk with a punch.

In the Post-Crisis continuity, Superman more often fights opponents in his strength class. Many are Superman-level, but others like Darkseid, Brainiac 13, Fernus, Imperiex, Dominus and Mandrakk are Planetary, Universal to Multiversal-level threats.

3. BETTER LIFTING FEATS

Perhaps, one department of super strength that truly separates Superman and Hulk is lifting feats. Unquestionably, Hulk has better striking feats. In fact, his punches often explode with the force of bombs, or turn back time.

However, Superman may outclass Hulk in raw strength. On two occasions, he has pushed past the boundaries of infinity. In Final Crisis: Superman Beyond (2008) #1, Superman and Captain Marvel/Shazam lift the Book of Limbo. Indeed, it contains infinite pages all occupying the same space. On another occasion, Superman lifted eternity. In JLA/Spectre: Soul War (2003) #1, Superman and Wonder Woman lift Spectre.

2. SAVING THE DAY

In Superman, The Greatest Story, I argue that Superman is the strongest hero. Both on the strength of his story and by feats. What really makes Superman work, is that he is the quintessential American superhero. In fact, Superman always saves the day. In part, it is due to his willpower. Also, it is due to his humanity. Indeed, proving that super strength is also a matter of determination.

Though, Hulk also is a superhero. However, he lacks at times his humanity. In fact, a factor that may mean life or death in a crisis.

1. BETTER FIGHTER

In Superman/Batman (2005) #23, Superman uses pressure points on a Kryptonite-Man-possessed Batman.

When it comes to fighting, both superheroes have had a bad reputation. Over the years, Hulk has been viewed as a mindless brute. At the same time, Superman has often fought like a brawler. Generally, Superman is the better fighter. Post-Crisis, he has received combat training from Mongul, Batman and Wonder Woman.

In Superman/Batman (2005) #23, Superman uses the pressure point technique against a Kryptonite-Man possessed Batman. In addition, Superman has mastered the Infinite Mass Punch. Recently, in Rebirth, Superman performed the speedblitz on Doomsday.
